Howw to dodge an an attack?

I know that you can dodge an AOE attack by moving out if the damage zone, but how do you dodge attacks such as Crystal Shares, Fire balls, thrown weapons, etc.?

I know that you can use a magical or physical shield to absorb some of the damage.

It seems that you can't block magical attacks, but can block thrown weapons, am I correct about this?

I guess with the magical attacks, once you are selected, your are screwed.

It would be nice to be able to dodge most weapon effects, like in Skyrim. I haven't play Skyrim for several years, but I believe that it was possible to dodge magical casting spells and thrown weapons with the exception of arrow strikes.

Dodging in this game is a bit tricky anyways. You may not have this problem, but I know some people do - there are times when, even if you dodge, you'll still get hit, so you really have to think ahead quite a bit to make sure you're dodging in time. My latency gets pretty bad, so I probably have it worse than most.

That said, you can dodge pretty much anything. I've dodged magic attacks completely by accident before, so don't think you can't, it's just a matter of dodging soon enough that the server registers that you dodged before the attack hits you. And the servers are pretty finicky, so sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

As far as I know, dodge is a passive 'chance' applied to all attacks except AoE. In other words, you can't do anything to physically activate a dodge, you just pray to the RNG gods.

This game really does require you to think and react quickly in combat. There are ways to avoid, block, or interrupt different magic and weapon attacks, but you need to time it right, get it wrong by a second and you could find yourself in trouble.

It's one of the reasons why stamina builds are not great right now, because it's better to use magic-based attacks and abilities, and keep your stamina pool for evasion/defense.

My main tip is (if you are using a standard 3 button mouse and keyboard), bind roll-dodge to the middle mouse button. This will mean you can roll instantly when clicking the middle mouse button in whichever direction you happen to be moving, rather than enduring the slight delay caused by having to double-tap a movement key. It makes a huge amount of difference in combat to be able to instantly roll out of a red area.

Block by holding down rmb, and interrupt/bash by holding down rmb and clicking lmb, but you have to be close to the caster for the latter to work.

Most mobs have a pattern of attack depending upon their class, but most will try to snare or incapacitate you early on so look out for that attack and try to interrupt it - doubly so for enemy healers, target them first, watch for them starting to cast and interrupt them or you could wind up in trouble.

use roll dodge or block it's the only way except you have some cheat/hack to deny incoming attack.
History, like a human being, is thirsty when it wakes from its slumber…History wants to drink up an enormous amount of blood. And even if history has tired of drinking blood, that’s only in regards to the amount. But what about quality? The larger the sacrifice is, the more delighted the cruel gods will be.
