Gearscore is [snip] and so is a gear treadmill. What happens to all the peope who already got vr12 the hard way? they just get shafted? Dumb change will make many players angry.

It's a sub based game, expect sub based game design. They do this to stretch the time it takes to level to very deliberately make you play longer to reach your goal. It's called time sinking, and they masquerade it around as if it is intended to cater to more casual gamers. Your game time is money in their pocket, so arbitrarily slowing progression is in their best interest. Look at the atrocious 15 year old inventory management system for an easy example of a time sink. This is also produced by endlessly increasing level caps and the tiny incremental increases in gear progression (I.E. gear treadmill).

To be frank it's a bandaid for game design "boo boos". Players getting levels faster than intended? Oops! Implement XP penalties to slow them down. Players run out of progression? Oops! Implement higher level caps and a gear treadmill. The longer you are working towards a goal the more you are paying to reach that goal in a very easy to extrapolate rate. You can actually quanify in literal $ values how much you spend every month managing your inventory, looking at loading screens, talking to quest givers, and completing content just by tracking how much time you spend doing those things. Just do the math and see what percentage of your sub fee you're not spending on playing content, it might shock you. Time Sink = Money Sink, and for sub based developers they are basically printing money by using them.

I think it only effects the champion points right? that is how I understood it. I see no issue with it there, as far as normal levels and veteran ranks though - sure it could cause some issues.

God I don't want to have to grind for gear. I quit playing EQ because I was tired of constantly working towards whatever current loot there was. It all ultimately means I am forced to choose larger guilds, which means more dealing with unbearable people, and stand around and camp things endlessly. I want to pvp. Not grind. >.<

This bonus is there for people who cant play 8 hours a day. I'm one of them, and have been asking for a rested xp bonus for a long time now.

This also helps with levelling alts, btw.

It kind of flips the bird at the rest of us though. We get less return while putting more effort in.

That is a pretty sad way to look at it. How exactly xp bonus for peole who can't play as much as you "flip you the bird"? You get the exact same thing in return for the exact same effort. This won't lower your xp. You just get a little more if you can't play for a day.

I see how this is a game destoryer I mean look at WoW they put this in and that game wen't free to play in never and only has like 10 million subs! The end is near!!

I am sure I play a lot less than you do and still think its bad. The xp bonus only caters to nerds as they get faster to max level for their raids. Casuals like you and me are put in an disadvantage by this bonus, as we skip the only content that we can do based on our RL situation (level up and non raids).

WOW lost 50% of their subs, I don't know where you get those 10 million from, but they are not the reality.

And yes, it destroyed WOW. I wish more people would had actually played WOW before and after Blizz changed the direction of their game. Its a huge difference and the forums are full of older gamers who didn't like the changes. And yes I am talking about older which means their age!

If you want to fly through content fine, make them add a instant level 50 for 20 bucks I don't care. But I do care if the content that I as a Casual can do is ruined because of impatience and an "only raids matter" attitude.

The game devs would give up their first born children for half of WoW lowest sub numbers in the last five years. Even a quarter of the 7 million or so WoW still claims it has would be a huge success for this game. It totally destroyed the biggest MMO in history even though it was there the entire time.

I swear no matter what they do the tears flow and flow and flow and flow. This is a perfect example of why game developers should totally ignore the community no matter what you do people complain.

I don't play 8 hours a day. Not even close. I'm what you would call a "casual."

I don't like the XP boost because it creates the impression that this game is about a rush to max level. Which right now, it isn't. There is no reason that anyone needs to level quickly here, and with the introduction of the Champion system, that will be even more true.

Let me be clear: I don't like this idea because it will make leveling less fun. And that hurts those of us who can't play every day.

Actually, there is less effort on your end. How are you putting in equal effort?

Personally, if I valued what worked for WoW, I would be playing... WoW.

Yes. And WoW has never been about the leveling experience. It's been about rushing through a barren wasteland of low-level zones, skipping over storyline and ignoring the world in order to get to the highest level.

Says someone that never played Vanilla ...

You cant judge the WOW how it is today with how it once was. ESO on release had a lot in common with Vanilla wow, Blizzard had some of the best story lines in MMO history back then and Onyxia and MC served as the big final in these story lines.

It took players several months to reach max level, there was world pvp with rewards for level 19, 29 etc. long before pvp was purely made for max level players.

Actually EQ has, instead, the mentoring system, which I like. You join a group of people (limit is maybe 12?) anyone with exp sharing on gets a decrease in gained exp (it's big, like 10%) this means nothing if you are maxed in everything though. Anyone who is logged off during that time, then logs on, and has exp sharing on, will have bonus exp waiting for them, 10% of whatever the total is that the other person or persons gained.

I think you can even turn it off while you are exping, and then turn it on when you log off. If everyone does that it is useless, so it's best when you are trying to help a low level friend, and let them turn it on and off as needed while you grind the exp for them.

This is a marketing technique, not a game-play/balance issue. Players who "stop playing" (for whatever reason) are given encouragement to "log back in to play" again, thus retaining subscribers.

You won't change their mind on this.

Although I agree with the OP, this comment makes sense. It's very likely a way to get previous players back into playing again.

Difficulty should have never been by level. It should have just been hard everywhere. Theme parks are flawed.
