Why do we need gold in ESO?

The only spam I get now are people sending me in game mail with the title "Raw Materials" advertising about selling mats for RL money. I report each and every one. I never see gold sellers anymore.

I think we can all agree that the Gold spammers/sellers are out of hand. Just a thought...what would happen if they just take gold out of the game completely? Make it so that all things must be crafted. This would mean that you could no longer buy anything. No gold=No gold sellers? Come to think of it...the only time, and I mean ONLY time I spend money is to fix my armor. Thoughts?

    You are joking, right?

    1. Feed horse
    2. Wayshrine travel
    3. Repair Armor
    4. Buy Crafting Materials
    5. Buy dropped armor from other players for set pieces

What you are proposing is a single player mechanic where you are the only one responsible for doing everything related to your character, from creating armor, looting/harvesting materials, etc.

If you want single player mechanics to rule the game, go play Skyrim.

The whole point of an MMO is interaction with other players. This includes the ability to buy/sell/trade things found in game to those other players.

Removing gold from the game wont stop the problem. Just as with the nerf to the public dungeon bosses, moving the goal posts will only force the bots/sellers to adjust to the changes that are implemented, it wont get rid of them.

The vast majority of gold sellers (over the years) have been from boiler room farmers who are paid a pittance to play the game for someone else, people who create accounts with stolen credit cards, or people who hack/phish/steal someone's characters and loot the account.

Nothing you do in game will stop the problem. It will only serve to annoy the hell out of the legitimate players and force the problem players into another mechanic.

most of the exploiting is to allow players to get to v10 in epic gear asap so they can compete in pvp. they do this by buying gold with which to buy the fastest mount, and to buy epic mats to lvl up their gear.

perhaps by segregating currencies pvp vs pve, gear upgrades in pvp is to be earned by participating in pvp actions gains a currency used only in pvp, to upgrade chars gear or levels. this would require them giving the ability to gain experience levels in pvp as well. it would at least eliminate the biggest botting going on now, that of harvesting resources to break down into epic mats for upgrades. as for pve, make those mats bound to acct after breakdown. same with motiffs.

You don't need to remove gold, you need to remove the gold sinks that serve no purpose but create a demand for gold. Repair bills, respec charges and mounts for instance. Then make motifs and other rare stuff bind to account.

Suddenly you need hundreds of gold, not tens of thousands.

If they cut respec by 50% cost, and repair by 80% cost, it would be fair and I would be able to get enough gold. Otherwise, I started doing what botters do: Create an alt, sent it OP equip crafted from the main, cheese it through quests to get some 8k, bank it then delete the alt. Refresh and start again.

I don't want to play like this but I can't get gold at V1, my income doesn't equal my deficits. I also don't care about elitist remarks like "I had 100k before level 20!" and "I am V1 and make 100k/hr."

I feel like I am being railroaded into playing in a way that doesn't satisfy me just so that I can keep paying in debts that always outgrow my income.

This is the only good proposal on this thread,

    Within; Without.

I'd cut respec costs to a flat rate 50gp per level. GW2 has cheap respecs without causing any issues. If ESO didn't create the huge demand for gold in the first place then there would be less buyers.

It's by no means an ideal solution. The ideal solution involves the game not being designed as the perfect game for botting in the first place.

EDIT - like you I don't find gold easy to come by. i've 2 characters at L30, done 1 respec and have maybe 20k gold. I haven't duped anything, I haven't made tens of thousands from selling motifs early in the game. I've just worked with what I get from quests and occasional sells in the guild.

Most my dropped stuff goes into research or deconstruction.

    Maybe...........

Instead of gold, what if it was a BoP Token, these tokens you get at the end of a long chain quest, beating a group dungeon, and/or from random mining/cutting/gathering. And being BoP, you couldn't trade them or give them away.

1/3/5 Token for the cost of minor/medium/heavy repairs
1 token for feeding your mount
1 token for wayshrine, 3 to portal to a shrine
    5/10/15/20/25 tokens for bank spaces

Just an idea...these tokens could come from anywhere but you get my drift

And what about those who aren't in the middle of a quest chain, but are farming for mats for crafting?

The only way to get leather is by killing creatures. Fighting creatures results in armor decay. Without the drops that convert to gold, under your suggestion, I would be SOL without a way to repair my armor since I am fighting creatures, and not just doing a quest chain.

And what about PvP? Most PvP doesn't involve a quest chain and instead is fighting directly against NPC's and other players. If they are not completing quests, under your suggestion, they would have no way to earn a token to pay for repairs.

Personally, I think allowing crafters to repair their own armor would be very helpful.

There is no reason as a Blacksmith/Clothier, I shouldn't be able to repair my own armor at a crafting station with ore/cloth.

If you had bothered to read the thread, you would have seen how all of your points have already been discussed. Exept for buying set pieces and wayshrine money. Both of which can easily be solved. Travel from shrine to shrine...its free. Find the set pieces yourself...wanting to buy them is just lazy...nothing more. I have admitted already that removing gold will not solve anything. But that doesnt mean there is no solution.

At this point I wish the mods would just close this thread for me so that I dont have to read all the rude, closed minded comments.

There have been a few who have commented and been hepfull. MMOs are a social games. I have tried to interact and have a civil discussion here. At this point I dont think I want to interact with most of you. So I shall just play my game my way with my wife and I will pretend that you are all just silly NPCs.

Again not all have been rude, just most. Thank you to those who where helpfull and game on!!
