RGN is one thing, but this...can't be correct.

I have yet to find a motif. Any motif. Sure, I don't look that hard, but I am still lvl VR2. No motifs in 52 lvls? RGN must really have it out for me. I open drawers, boxes, backpacks, wardrobes, etc when they are in my path. I don't go out of my way to look for motifs, but they shouldn't be so rare as to NEVER find one.

Same, I only ever found one at lvl 11 I think, and since then, every single thing I see I loot, and nadda. I got 2 blue provisioning recipes, but that is it .

I am VR10 since weeks. I got every Tradeskill at 50, only Enchanting at ~20. I collect like mad everywhere i am and never found a single Motif.

backpacks, trunks, furniture, these are the only place that drop these. I spend half the time looting everything I come accross.

I have found 4 or 5, during the first few weeks of launch. but I haven't found any in weeks. If you really want to get them though, just buy them off of somebody or look in your guild store. They are becoming cheaper too, because most people have already bought everything other than the Ancient, Daedric, etc.

Motif drop rate must have changed. When first starting out, I found anywhere from two to three motifs per day for a few weeks. I started various characters and each had all the basic crafting styles. Lately though, I may see a motif once every few days, if that. Sadly, without patch notes we are left to speculate at best.

I found all the regular motifs, and the primal motif in the first 2 weeks of the game, and I really didn't play THAT much. I opened every container with which I came into contact.

I've heard that recently the container loot drops have been nerfed to hell though with diminishing returns.

Yeah that is true. It figures that the time when I decide to try that log out and in farming trick so I could at least get my first motif was the day after the nerf. I spent 3 hours not getting anything except 300 lockpicks...

Something ain't right. I have 3 main chars, each leveling two crafts and all of them have already learned a copy of all the normal motifs that are in the game.
That's 3 x of all the normal motifs. Plus, i sold quite a few duplicates (quadruplicates?) in the guild store. And i didn't buy or trade any, all found.

So, back to my point, something clearly isn't right here.

I got a buttload of lockpicks... makes me wonder why nearly everyone in Tamriel locks away their lockpicks.... isn't that a bit like locking your spare keys inside your car ?

On my Ebonheart Pact character, level 38, I've found 1. On my Dominion character, level 17, I've found 8 or 9 !

You know, now that you mention it, i found most of my motifs on AD as well!

Same here, no motiff for 40 levels with toon made after the patch.

EVEN A SINGLE ONE - lot of bugged full/empty containers though.

I don't think they're dropping as frequently since the last patch or two, but I was getting lots of them before; I'd say at least one per day or per two days. Almost entirely from the lootable containers in the city bank - gotta love the irony of looting the bank!

Heh, sounds familiar. Found two in 5 levels in Beta, for my own race, first was also usable, though useless to me!

Maybe it is an EP issue. As the comments state, it seems that AD doesn't have an issue with this. My character is EP.

Even though I've been moaning about reduced drops of green recipes and basic provisioning mats since the last patch (on the basis that they are the baseline requirement for being able to do provisioning), I've learned a fair few of the basic motifs (even given some motif books that I didn't need away to friends). And that's bearing in mind that I have split clothier/blacksmithing/woodworking between 3 characters, so a motif book only becomes 'spare' when I've already had 3 of them. I found Nord and Bosmer yesterday.

I was reading the race description on the imperials, and it said something about increased luck. I really hope there is not a hidden luck stat, that kind of stuff can really throw game balance out the window.

At this point, I'd just as soon pay skill points (one per motif per each of the three armor/weapon crafting skills). Have the rarest motifs as specific crafting quest rewards.

Another way to do it would be to have achievements for deconstructing items; when you deconstruct a given (large) number of items of a particular race, you get rewarded that motif with the achievement.

Or, the existing Researching game mechanic can be used. Research the style for every weapon and armor piece, and be rewarded the appropriate motif for that crafting skill.

Most likely I'm lucky because I have found already 10+ motif (every single playable race motif) books. Still haven 't seen any of those rare (daedric, primal etc).

To be fair, I see a lot of these arguments "stuff is too rare" vs. "it's fine as it is" and no-one involved in the discussion seems to account for the fact that there are 2 megaservers and there's little thought that experience on each might be different.

I play on both, and despite spending more time overall on the EU server, I get far more loot on the NA server (pre-patch, and post-patch). Someone on another thread suggested it may be due to a glitch on the EU server that means instances don't close properly (that's what they said, I don't pretend to know what it means) but I can say from experience that it all seems to work OK on the NA server, but on the EU server I can go for days with every container being empty, even in areas I haven't been before - which is not at all good, and I am certain that cannot possibly be working as intended, given my much better experience on the NA server.
