How about cross platform play?

Seriously ZoS. Can we please get cross platform play? I have friends who do not like to game on PC but are going to play on ps4. I do not want to buy the game again nor do I want to pay another 15 a month to just play with my buddies. Granted, I will buy it again if I know my character from pc can be played on ps4 and my progress carried over from ps4 to pc and vice versa depending on the system in which I am switching too.

You could make the community way bigger if you allowed this. So, I ask you, what is the real reason you will not allow us to do this?

Because someone using keyboard and mouse will have huge advantage over someone using a gamepad in PvP. You just can't move, aim etc as fast with a gamepad.
Yeah, I got a PC. I just don't feel the need to post it's specifications for an ego boost.

Not true, I use my ps4 controller on pc and it is just as efficient in pve, and pvp. I have zero issues. The only time I use my mouse is when I'm to lazy to hook up my controller or someone is playing a game.on my ps4

Not sure if thats the only reason, but definitely plausible.

Glad you didn't say "people won't communicate" as there isn't a lot of that going on anyhow

Another guess is back end architecture along with the kerfuffle with MS and Sony. I believe patching needs to go through both entities, so it would be difficult to co-ordinate same versions of the client at the same time. I realize Square Enix has pulled it off somehow with FFXIV, so it can be done .. somehow .. but who knows how much of a headache it took to thrash it out in the boardroom

It may not be much of a difference from your individual perspective. However, it is a simple fact that the mouse / keyboard combo is superior medium. Gamepads are just too linear when compared to the variable movement speed of a mouse.

There is nothing wrong with the controller as it is, don't get me wrong, it is just not good enough to compete against a mouse / keyboard combo.

I use controller as well (using Pinnacle), because I am useless at moving using keys and firing skills at same time.

However, I can absolutely asure you that a skilled keyboard player will crush you if you are using a controller. If you are just on top of a keep firing at people in the distance then sure, no real disadvantage. But 1 on 1 - no way. See how long it takes you to turn 180 degrees using a controller. Using a mouse it's pretty instant. A skilled keyboard player will just dance around you in circles and you won't be able to aim at them.

Pressure sensitive Controllers are amazing. Whatever program you use (I use xpadder), just turn your X and y axis sensitivity up. I get the same fast paced turning with my Controller as I do with my mouse. I'm pretty positive they will let you turn the sensitivity up on the console version pretty high. Look at the other elder scrolls games on console.

Everyone is good at playing with their own sensitivity. People who play slower than someone else are still just as effective. I have pvp'ed, with my controller attached. And did extremely well. So the reaction time and the reaction they do are based on the end user. Not the tool they use. That is all I am saying :)

The playing field is always equal. Just depends on how good you are with your play style. I would love to not have to pay for two separate accounts to play with all my buddies.

Plus it would make some of those ghost shards more active. I can't be the only one to see some pretty empty shards. Sometimes they are really active but then I get some that are just ghost towns it feels like compared to the other ones

It's not because of advantage, it's because Microsoft and Sony can't play nice with each other and ZOS can't show preference to either by allowing them to play with PC users, so everyone gets their own server.

Thank Microsoft and Sony for this.

If its on the keyboard you can map it on the controller including macros. You can even adjust sensitivity. The only real difference is with a controller you can play from the couch or recliner comfortably.

Not up to ZOS to make this a reality. Microsoft is the one you need to convince since they're the ones blocking this.

There is no technical reason why there couldn't be cross platform play.

It's all about the suits in upper management at Microsoft ...

I think Catsocks has it right..

    I posted this here previously..
With regards to all the platfroms co-existing on one megaserver.. it's definitely technically possible, Trion devs effectively said they had the technology to implement such a structure with Defiance... and their own internal test environment allowed access from cross platform clients.

The reason it didn't get implemented was simply down to the fact that M$ and $ony were unwilling to allow their ecosystems to co-exist, basically Trion were blocked by the suits and not any kind of technology. It's basically about protecting their closed revenue streams it would seem..

Neither were willing to co-exist with PC's either..

Microsoft and Sony have said this game can't be cross platform. It isn't in Bethesda or Zenimax's hands. It might be nice but unless you get these two companies to allow it it will never happen.

There are a few reasons why this is a bad idea, but has @epoling said its a moot point due to the console corps..

Of course Sony and MS will never get to a point where you can play a game together on both platforms. These are rival companys and it isn't some evil suit kinda thing, it's just normal business. It should be like this, competition is a good and healthy thing for the console market.

Having Xbox and PS players playing on the same server would be like beeing able to put HP printer cardriges into a Canon printer. This is not going to happen.

The big reason I think is that Microsoft and Sony's platforms (e.g., Xbox Live) are closed systems, so they won't led Zenimax's system for desktop interact with them.

That said (and I don't really care that you've chosen to gimp yourself on desktop by using a controller) using a keyboard and mouse gives you a significant advantage over someone with a controller.

Perhaps less so in this game with few ranged weapons and the autotarget, but targeting response time with a mouse (point-click) is much better than with a joystick. With a joystick you have to move the reticle through space, from point A to point B at a rate that is locked by the console. On a desktop you can control the cursor move rate and speed it up so it basically jumps straight from point A to point B without having to move through the space between.

Attention Zenimax: Stamina builds don't hold up to magicka builds, and this is causing most of your class imbalance. It makes melee weapons and bows weaker than staves and class abilities. It makes medium and heavy armor less desirable than light armor. Fix this imbalance, and you'll address most of your balance issues.

It's funny that you bring up Defiance. They may have claimed they had the technology, but I doubt it. Having been with the development of Defiance since the alpha testing through all the betas and test servers for the DLC, I can see without a doubt that the issues with microsoft and sony were not the real issue holding them back.

Cross platform play is a logistical nightmare, and a mouse and keyboard is clearly superior to a gamepad regardless of personal opinion on the subject. With that being said, pc to one platform is one thing as seen with final fantasy but when you throw another network into it, it's just not feasible at all.

Yes I remember you from the Defiance forums, I was also in very early Alpha..
I can see without a doubt that the issues with microsoft and sony were not the real issue holding them back.

Unless you had inside knowledge, I'm not sure you can make such a claim.. yep the game had it's issues, mostly being crap, too small, and incredibly limited, with poorly implemented systems but on evidence it certainly looked like they had the ability; and they certainly did claim they did.

I remember during the Alpha some event with the dev team, and chatting with the guy who was the lead CSR initially.. I forget his name (pretty sure he got laid off though when they culled half the studio). He claimed he was connected via an xbox client.. there was also some vid I recall of some dev logging onto the 'live' alpha server with one of the console clients as well..

Final fantasy 14 is cross plaform. PS4, PS3, and pc. Final fantasy 11 was also this way. Ps2, pc, xbox. So Don't believe you need some crazy technology to do so. And I didn't gimp myself by using a controller. I use keyboard and mouse majority of the time unless I want to relax while I play
