Thank you ElderScrollsOnline.com, for now spamming my email address on behalf of the gold sellers...

Gold seller site has been (CENSORED) in the message below by me - The last thing I need is to be labeled a goldspammer. Got this email from the address [email protected] Really guys? I can't even get the message to load in the inbox here to delete or report it...

I get that there's probably some place to turn off email notifications, but I find it a little ironic that I never asked for them to begin with and the first one I get is this. ESO is goldspamming me on behalf of the goldspammers. GG, really crackin' down on 'em.

I would type something meaningful here, but I just can't - I gave up - they won. I was trying to "rush" trough the game to just to stay ahead of: " You buy gold now!" - they are in Rift now, I can't run any longer . . .

I'm aware of that, I just think it's interesting that there's no filter for this, and that the site is set up to by default take the extra step to go ahead and send the gold spam directly to my email address.

Why do people not understand the term "notification"?
It's neither an email from a gold spammer to you nor is it ZOS sending you gold spam.

The email you got is simply a notification that someone sent you a PM here on the forum (which happened to be spam).

And on top of that, a simple search would have yielded plenty of information on the subject.

There is a checkbox in your profile which says:

"Allow other members to see your email?".

If it is ticked, then the only provider of the email to goldsellers is most likely yourself.

I understand that it's a notification, that is clear. I understand that I can turn it off, and I now have.

The point was that I received an unsolicited email offering me a service, and that email came from ElderscrollsOnline.com. Gold spammers did not email me. ESO.com did not try to sell me gold. ESO.com did send gold spam to my email address. That's amusing.
  • ZOS_JasonI
Hey there, @Exosus. Thank you for reporting the gold spam to us. Be sure to keep an eye on this megathread to report any further gold spammers so we can address them as soon as possible. Thank you again, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

No. You received a PM not a email. Stop trying to blame ZOS.

Yes. I received an email. Not blaming ZOS. Didn't mention ZOS. Still find it amusing that there's no filter for gold spam on PMs, and that by default the messages in their entirety are sent to the account's email address.

I'd delete this post now that it's been seen and I've been directed to the megathread, but apparently I'm unable to do that so I guess it's staying.

To reiterate for those who need it:

This post would be deleted if I had the ability to do so. It does not require further comments. Yes, I am aware that the email was a notification of a PM that I received from a gold spammer, and yes I was aware of that at the time of posting. Yes, the title is still accurate, as ESO.com is set up by default to send PMs from gold spammers in their entirety to your email address.

I really don't see what is so difficult to understand here.

ZOS should have disabled the feature by default. Someone didn't do their homework.

Then people would complain that they missed pm's... enabled by default is typical of most internet forums and bulletin board software.

Any PM you receive, unless you turn off the notification, will get sent your email. It is just not gold sellers. Being a Guild Leader I turn off email notifications from any site I have to for ESO. Not because I don't want to be notified but because I don't want to get my email flooded. Only want the notifications on the site itself. So if you didn't turn it off and I sent you a PM then you would get the whole PM in the email.

Some forum software only let you know you have a PM without having the email show the whole PM, others do show the whole PM in the email. Believe me I know what I am talking about, I was head of tech support for a forum software company and have used most major forum software programs out there.

Yup, as I said... virtually every forum mails notifications, often including the content of, pm's. You can also disable it manually on most, but it usually is defaulted to on.

ZOS should have disabled pm's by default and have people opt-in if they wanted it. Leaving it enabled opened them up to 'ZOS is spamming us on behalf of gold sellers' complaints.

    Have a great day!

Be sure to also blame the jerkwad gamers who buy this crap. Lazy idiots are what cause this, it isn't Zenimax's fault, really. They need to address it asap, obviously, but the whole gold selling issue is one that we, as players, cause. If enough players didn't buy that crap, it wouldn't happen.

So thank your fellow gamers for ruining the genre and forcing devs, like in this instance, to waste the first month screwing around with filtering rather than fixing/improving the game.
