Action Bars, You know you want more!

natedipaolob14_ESO
Ok, I've been playing for a while now and truly love this game. However, I find that there are WAY too many skills for the limited number of action bar slots. Can there be or will there be any additions to the bar in order to have more abilities slotted? I just don't see why not, just add 2 more slots so players can have 7 ability slots and keep the one ultimate ability slot. The only explanation i could think of for the limited slots is to make the game compatible with consoles. However, I don't see why PC should be held to these constraints. I find it difficult to have 360 skill points in a game where you can only use 12 abilities at a time. Please take this into consideration for future updates as I'm sure other players would support me in this plight.

Also there are 105 active abilities in this game

It's one of the core design in the game. I don't know if its a console-oriented design (I don't think so), but what I know is it will likely not change.

Some games offer a limited number of usable abilities, some don't. You have to deal with it :)

Also don't forget you can swap weapons.

Yes I am aware you can swap weapons and that is why I stated you can have 12 abilities active at one time. I just can't get past the fact that there are 360 skill points in the game, yet you are so restricted by your action bar number. I find it contradictory to the essence of an Elder Scrolls game that is built around freedom and choice.

Well, I'm sorry if you don't like it. Personally I find it interesting.

Actually, I like both systems. :)

And I agree weapon swapping is bugged or laggy sometimes.

I am fine with the 10, gameplay feels more fluid and action oriented, if I want 30 action bars, then I can play SWTOR.

IMO I sure hope they dont add more. You ask for 2 more slots, and another will ask for another 2, and then someone else another 2, before you know it we will all be using bartender4 again.

Were all held to these constraints because this is what creates diversity and so many different options to choose from among class builds. By adding more skill slots, it simply ruins this games variety.

360 skill points that have to be allocated to passives and crafting as well does not make too many skills available.
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

I like it the way it is myself. Requires me to set up and decide which skills I want for a while. As I progress I have changed my bars, to reflect different attack strategies and or abilities. Just in my case, adds some interest instead of having 20 skills available at all times.

...and I also agree the weapon swapping could be a little more flexible.

I think 5 skills is enough. I use a destruction staff and a restoration staff as second.

But ! I would really enjoy to be able to have another skill bar per weapon.
So i could switch spells for different situation.. somehing I need more AoE, sometime more pushback then what I slotted and I cant switch spells while in fight (or dont have time).

Two action bar with 5 skills (+ ultimate) for each weapon would be AWESOME.
All we need is a hot key to swtich bar and a hot key to switch weapon... e-z..

Five slotted abilities is not enough, we NEED 1-9.

Even if we had 1-9, we would still have "meaningful sacrifice" in what we slot, and be restricted from being "everything".

    We need 1-9.

Will pay $50.00 USD at the cash shop, put it in.

And, don't forget to add Expanded Ignore List +1000.

I will pay $50.00 USD for that right there.

Zenimax: Want $100.00 of my hard earned USD?

You want 1-9, down the road another person wants 1-9, then another, and another.

    Welcome back to WoW.

I find combat in games where half my screen is covered with hot bars boring. I like the added challenge that comes from being restricted in my choice of skills. The other thing I think people forget is that in most games where you can have 30 skills available at any time you tend to end up using a rotation of only 5 or 6 at any one time anyway!

I'm finding it very restrictive at present and that it's making combat boring, but then I'm someone who uses 25 skills in games with 30 available. I'm sure I'll adjust. Would be nice if the processes for swapping in other skills were slicker, though, given that it is the game design that we'll have to do it often.

Freedom and choice to make decisions (as in the world) that is the essence of Elder Scrolls, not to roll out all the skills you want .... that is not choice that is having everything.

Currently 5 skills + 1 ulitmate is the most "Skill Choice" you have ever had in an Elder Scrolls game ..... Not sure which ones you have been playing.

The problem I have found is that once you find a setup you really like, you don't have much incentive to acquire new skills because you love your bar how it is. At the very least I'd like to see this

Or possibly having a separate slot for active abilities such as magelight and other abilities that are a one time activation.

Actually I don't. Having to know your skills and change them for different encounters really is TES at it's core. It also makes choices mean more. Do you up Skill A only till higher level or do become more dynamic and more useful in different situations while leveling. I wouldn't even have minded if they cut out a lot of the skill points you can get and make the choices even more crucial.
  • natedipaolob14_ESO

No. We don't need screen clutter - 5 means you need to THINK about what you put on your bar, and you need to be set up for a very specific role. Means we will have more variety too, because everyone doesn't have the same 30 abilities on their hotbar.

I dont want more. I would, however, like something done with the terrible quickslot menu.

I keep health pots in 1. Thats it. Its too clunky to use for any other slot and Ive actually accidentally swapped slots in combat holding Q down a fraction of a second too long.

    Welcome back to WoW.

Wrong, Kream. This would not become WoW, and there is a good reason WoW copied Ultima Online, Tibia, Diablo and Everquest on 1-9. I bet anything if 1-5 were a good idea, WoW would have done it.

And being an MMO, you would expect more freedom; instead, you get another straightjacket.

I don't know how far into the game you are, but the same 5 abilities will not cut it in every situation, especially when you hit VR, and then I will laugh because you only have 5 abilities you levelled, while im sitting here with every class skill morphed and lvl 4. I am now about to max out my second set of armour, and my second weapon, which will bring the tally to Soul, Dark, Summoning, Storm Calling, Destro, Bow, Light, Medium and Mage all maxed.
