If this game goes f2p because of allllll the new age f2p jobless kids i will quit so fast...any worries here that this game will go bottoms up and die a f2p death?

Oh people voice plenty of worries. Impossible to tell when we're still in the 30 free day trial and without the significant MMO competition releasing.

    Well said.
Yes and the PS4 and One version together with the pc version will probably keep the game in P2P.

Lets get one thing straight, it is not us Millennials who are the ME generation (20s-early 30s), it's you GenXers(mid 30s-early 50s). Do you listen to yourselves?

The people who are "leaving" (I haven't noticed any of this btw) are the powergamers/powerlevelers who have no real life outside of gaming and just played for days on end to level and didn't take a look at the content at all.

When the gaming industry picks up on this they'll understand what's going on. Also, keep in mind folks buy a game and may not like it.

You really should be blaming GenXers more as the "Me" folks when my generation only makes up 25% on average as the MMO group base.

I think the most people who want the game f2p never really played a "f2p" game, they just know many turned to that model so every other mmo should do the same. If they tried any of f2p game as a f2p player, they would agree that the 9 pounds a month cost (I mean, what is that? 30 pence a day?) is well worth the price. At least this is the case in most f2p games anyway, I know there are some with very few limits but there are limits there too. I prefer paying a small amount of money each month to get the same content as everyone else.

Sometimes people look weirdly at me when I tell them I pay a monthly fee for a game. Then I point out that unlike them, I don't smoke for example, this is so much cheaper, healthier and I am having fun. I pay less than a month than they do for a pack of cigarettes :D but smoking is just one example.

And as others mentioned above, hopefully with the console versions, this game can be kept P2P. Not many mmos are out for next gen consoles as far as I know.

Will have to go f2p because we won't be able to afford a sub on our old age pension.

Let me get this correct..you are telling me that the GenXers are the powergamers..have no life outstide of gaming? Because...I would counter that we are the ones with families, paying the bills, taking kids to practices, and dealing basically with the senseless worries of the world. Not saying that some of us are not pounding the keyboard in a ridiculous style..but I can't buy the point that we are the F2P peeps that you speak of.

But then again...I could be wrong, just ask my wife...

lol so many people screaming F2P, it all comes down to how much faith you have in the developers and the game, if you like it you will subscribe, if not you wont, if they don't have enough subscribers then unfortunately it may well happen, i don't think it will, in fact i have enough faith i have already prepaid the first 6 month subscription with a rolling 6 month sub after that, to be honest this game has far less issues and for me a much better game than a certain rival which flopped 1.0 but still has a sub policy and is doing well, and those that are the biggest voices for F2P will probably start fading away once the free month has gone as they don't want to pay for it obviously, and what's the cost of a subscription these days? it works out pennies per day, less than a pint of beer a week....

This is so true i have no idea what happened to people..games were ALWAYS p2p before this f2p crap started and nobody cared back then.I just had a argument with a guy that never played because of the f2p kiddies saying it's bad he sweared up and down the game is overpriced and broken lol i could not say otherwise

    A few points....

"Back then" MMO's were a niche genre. We didn't have millions of players and there weren't many to choose from.

Now the MMO market is massive and it is incredibly competitive.

Add the rising cost of game design and developers need a certain profit to maintain the game.

When subs drop too low then they add more to a cash shop and switch to free to play in order to bring more people in.

As for this games price .....

This game cost £49.99 for my digital standard edition.

Average PC game costs £29.99 to £39.99

It IS overpriced. The box price alone would have been enough to put some people off.

    On Topic.....

Will this game go free to play?

Eventually it might do, I can't say for certain without knowing how many subs they need to stay in profit.

I hope it doesn't but it does seem to be happening to a lot of MMO's recently.

I can deal with either F2P or P2P, many of the members of the DarkStar Alliance are either disabled with no income or students with very limited cash budgets. In many cases the only computer is family owned and shared so gaming hours are limited. The Tiered Free to Play model works better for them in most games with it. Some content they never get to play because it is locked behind costly quest pack doors.

In many cases they have more characters of a higher average level than I do but I play a much larger number of games. Most Free to Play model but I do put significant cash into the developers pockets for the goodies I want to use.

I do not like a monthly must pay, Here in ESO I will pay for six months upfront when the trial ends, it is already setup waiting to trigger. It is cheaper per month that way and easier to pay ahead when convenient.

Unless hopeless code errors pile up I will stay in ESO along with my long term commitment to World of Tanks and World of Warplanes as designated DSA handler for those games and World of Warships when it comes out. LoTRO and others games get my attention also.

Both models have costs otherwise the servers go Dark as Chromehounds and many others have shown.

The moment i have to start paying for every single item in game is the moment i quit. F2P is rarely actually free to play. I hope ESO stands the test of time.

Sorry OP , i dont have the power to see the future.

Still , i would bet it will , first because most of the others did , which does mean something and second because i dont see myself playing this for much longer after i reach vet 10 atm.

Still , im not vet 10 , so i cant decide on that yet , and they could still make some changes that could keep me playing.

If you take a close look at soul gems, enchantments and the revive mechanic, at transportation costs, including horses, at inventory and bank management, you can already see a groundwork lending itself quite easily towards a F2P model. IF they change from P2P it's gonna be a freemium model and I'm certain - at least in the beginning - we won't even notice much of a difference. That one thing, they got right.

ESO feels like a moneygrab. Barely anything is said by the devs , no clear future plans or things they are planning, patches/content is just added.
I wouldn't be suprised this will be F2p very soon.

But that's just my thought about it.

Sorry, and I mean that, but I can not understand peoples reasons for feeling so put out by not having some joe at Zenimax hold you and tell you its all going to be okay every time a bug or glitch pops up. I don't want to hear from them cause if they are posting then they ain't programming, I say keep it up and don't talk till the job is done. I mean, what is it that every needs so much reassurance about?

I don't want it too because I prefer sub based games. But I can't help but think this game will go f2p if zos don't sort themselves out.

The service and customer service isn't good enough.

The PvE content is far to easy and lacks any challenge. Where are the world bosses that take 12+ people to even think about killing. All of the current world bosses can be 2 manned with ease.

Pvp needs work in my opinion. Needs more depth and more mechanics in place to maintain balance in campaigns.

And the current issues with bugs allowing people to dupe their asses off.

Yeah it's not looking good. This Saturday when the server was down forever on a bank holiday weekend, I considered canning my sub. I didn't but I will if they carry on how they started out.
