Had to quit the game this morning

There was just too much spam. We couldn't find others for a group because no one could read anything in zone chat except gold spammers. We report and ignore but new ones just keep spawning. Will play another toon in another zone for a bit. Glenumbra is just over run.

So... You DIDN'T quit the game. You just made an alt? I've noticed that goldspamming reduces significantly once you get out of the starting zone.

That was a lvl 18 and not in a starter zone. I have 6 toons spread across all factions. This one has been rendered unplayable if you need chat however.

Make a new chat tab, deselect zone chat for that tab, add in party/group for that chat tab option. Problem fixed... wait.. never mind.. that won't work if you're trying to find a group.. le sigh....

So what's the point of this topic? Gold sellers? They're a known issue and I'm pretty sure ZoS is working on it, but it's not like a "flip a switch and case solved" issue. And the community doesn't probably need to know when one person decides to switch to one of their alts

The best solution is let the players police it. If a player (account) receives more than 20 "spam report" complaints in a few hours the account should be automatically placed on suspension for 24hrs. If it happens 3 times it should be permanently suspended with the possibility of a petition by the account holder to have the case reviewed just in case of a rare occurrence of griefing.

Other games have done this and within one day of that change going live the problem of gold spammers and botters was fixed. It also saves the publisher from having to manually police it all themselves which can be labor intensive.

I'm not sure - I haven't gotten any spam mails since I installed it, so I haven't been able to test. However, if it doesn't do mail yet, I'm sure it will. It's a pretty new addon.

I'm not sure - I haven't gotten any spam mails since I installed it, so I haven't been able to test. However, if it doesn't do mail yet, I'm sure it will. It's a pretty new addon.

It's definitely leagues ahead of Spamfilter in actually blocking stuff. Spamfilter started out good, but the spammers keep working around the filters, and the addon author doesn't seem interested in fixing it (he's just saying "write your own filters").

The good thing about this one too is, you don't have to add them to your ignore list - it automatically blocks them. If you're one of the ones that doesn't care about reporting, you can turn the "notify" off and you'd never even know the spam was there.

Yes, some rushed at it before ZOS closed the exploits that meant you could harvest XP from PVP and other unintended ways to get massive amounts of XP.

This defeats the purpose of public chats - re-read the OP's post, they were looking for members for a group.

Anyone who had actually done as you suggest (which many of us have done at this point) - they won't See any requests for group members or anything else.

Good reason. Because once it is integrated into the game, it can't be changed without a client patch. Client patches are only done on Tuesday and Friday mornings, and require maintenance.

Gold spammers can *quickly* adjust their messages to get around filters, as soon as the filters are known. So we would get into this cycle of patch - gold spam stops for a few hours - then it starts again - oh no, we have to wait until Friday for it to be patched (assuimg it can be done that quickly).

Whereas with it as an addon it will be like - install addon - spam stops - spam starts again the next day - addon updated 30 minutes later - spam stops.

What Zenimax needs to do is give us a MUCH simpler reporting method (right click - report spam, no report needed & auto ignore without taking a spot on our ignore list - like WOW does), and then just continue with the banhammer as usual. Let the actual spam blocking be left to addons.

Goldspammers belong to MMO's like players, never enough Tanks&Healer for groups and the ocassional questbugs.

All you can do is ignore and report them. There is nothing Zenimax can do beside banning them, as they are pretty much throwhaway investments and there is no way to detect a Goldspammer Account before it makes it's first post.
As long as one advertisment message is worth the cost of an account, it will continue.

Generally groupfinder is the way I get my group. It's a bit harder to use then in other games (you have to tell wich roles you can cover + wich roles you need to be fileld up and only can search for one isntance) and of course you will instantly get DPS but have to wait for tank or healer (like every MMO). But it seems to be cross faction and area (so much further range then /zone chat every can have).
But I think there is no dungeon it works for at level 18 (it only covers intended levelranges).

I also noticed that bots and spammers seem to only get really active at nighttimes for the server. Between 1 A.M. and 8 A.M. (GMT for EU server) they are incredibly active but avoid the main palying times (too many people to be annoyed by them/report them around).
And they are less of a problem in later areas.

Best solution: cancel your sub. Check back in 6 months, see if anything has changed or gone f2p.

I don't understand. Why were you using the zone chat to get a group together when there is a perfectly good team building tool already there. No messing about with silly 'can you do this/that/other?' or 'Can I join your group?', just put in the criteria, search, BAM! In a team within a second or two. Only twice has it not put me into a team immediately.

I take it you haven't used it much?
When looking for a healer or tank it only groups you with dps OR it puts everyone in a different instance OR you can't even invite because mysteriously nobody is group leader and you can't disband because the party feature is just as bung as everything else.

This, but even worse: You can only find a group for a dungeon in your level range - which, since questing thoroughly will get you several levels ahead, prevents you from being able to select the desired dungeon from the list even.

So yes, the tool is a great idea, but the implementation makes it utterly useless. I wonder why this kinda crap didn't pop up in beta already, seems everyone just solo'd there or played in fixed/guilded groups - which makes a truly bad testing.

There are addons that filter and or auto ignore the spammers before you actually see it in chat.
