There's some positive posts but honestly the happy people are playing, not complaining about the game :p

I would be too if it weren't for that pesky 'work' business.

What good things can you expect people to write, when half of your bank is eaten up by the bank bug and the patch does not even bring back your items? Hours and hours of farming, epic tempers, all gone. God knows if they will be able to restore it, most ppl do not even know what exactly they lost.

I am a fanboi that cancelled vegas and miami trips with my wife just so I can play beta weekends. Yes, my love for this game is that bad. I woke up at 3 am at night to preorder my imperial edition when it was announced.

But how can an AAA mmo title can have such a bug that wipes half of my progress? screw the skill points, screw the class abilities, we all play for the loot and nothing but the loot, face it. How can you expect anyone to say anything positive in this mood?

    give us a break.

    Well, a few things:

-Give them a chance to restore your stuff before crying about them not being able to restore it. They've asked you to send in tickets.
-All MMO titles have bugs during the launch period. As launches go, ESO has been very smooth.
-They didn't erase "half your progress". WoW had people losing 30+ hours of gametime around their launch with rollbacks. That's losing progress. While losing your bank slots/items sucks, it's hardly half of the game.

Forums these days are almost like therapy for some people. A release.

It's a bit like what diaries could be 20 years ago. You'd more than not write in your diary when things were bad/dire, or you were feeling down, or angry at the world/someone, or something similar. The actual process of putting your thoughts down on the page alone often made you feel better. But when happy you're often off doing the very things that make you happy; living life; enjoying yourself with friends; doing what you love to do. You're not sitting around moping and writing in your diary.

The same happens on the forums to a degree. It's therapeutic to voice ones vices, and forums provide a very accessible outlet. That's why you see such a lot of negativity. It's not because there are no positives, It's largely because of that, and that people that are happy are more often than not playing the actual game.
If you can be anything, be kind.

The good news is the NA server as of now is down again for another Friday maintenance, so no dying to the combat bug, no mats gathered to be lost to the bank bug, the lag is gone, no gold spam, no falling through the world, etc....
    So there is good news!

I think Rev has it right forums tend to be a release for what is bad in the game people don't like. I personally like to go on forums and post ideas of what I would like to see implemented into the game at a later date.

For me I want to see some sort of player housing which would allow for some personal storage per toon perhaps?

Something that looks like it should be part of the game but isn't for some reason would be jewelry making.. Yes amulets and rings and perhaps carving of stones to improve what properties gems can do.

Pickpocketing and the Thieves guild They have always been in every good Elder Scrolls game .. Why not now .. ?

Dark Brotherhood! We have assassins as a subclass in the game why not have the dark brotherhood? After all the continent is in the middle of a war what better place for them to show up?

Filling out the rest of the provinces is also something I would like to see there is a large amount of land left unexplored still not that I'm in any rush. I still have a great amount of the world to see.

After all of that there are two other super continents to explore A massive string of islands which were once a continent and all of the other Daderic Realms.

Being able to SWIM underwater and underwater dungeons along with potions of water breathing etc etc.. This would add yet another dimension to the game that isn't there at the current moment.

Just in these few aspects alone they have at least a years worth of content to add to the game. There is a great deal they can add and so much potential it kinda blows my mind a bit.. Overall if they play their cards right this MMO has the potential to be around for at least five years or more.

It's pretty much how forums work.

People don't come to the forums to talk about things they enjoy ... they are too busy enjoying them.

They come to forums to vent frustrations.

It's also a myth that forums put new people off. Only a very small portion of a games player base ever visit the forums.

Over time, even with the complaining, forums become a community of their own. You'll see the same people posting, you'll chat with them, get to know them and rage or laugh with them.

All in all though a games forums are never a positive place. Some are tolerable and some are so full of bile that you leave before you drown.

The underlying idea behind Skyrim is that the world is a dangerous place and staying alive is tough. ESO is a far far tougher world.

The challenges have forced me to do things with my character and combat techniques that I never did in previous TESO games.

    It's been great.

If ZOS wanted us to read about the good things, they'd have given us a General Discussion forum. ;-) Burying posts in invisible subcategories pushes us to use the Recent Discussions tab, and that keeps complaints from the Support forums in our faces.

No, general discussion forums for any games become a sewer of complaints, no matter how good the underlying game is.

I, for one, am enjoying my ESO experience. The bugs have stayed away so far, not that I have epic things to lose anyhow, & I'm more of a tourist in MMO's than anything 'hardcore' or serious.

My favorite things are the emotes (So silly I know but it's fun for me to blend in. I'm an rper at heart), scavenging lockboxes on the beaches & just wandering and being a looky-loo in the beautiful environs that were created for us.

Thanks for making this thread, btw. It does seem that most people just want to gripe or be argumentative (which is why I mostly lurk). I couldn't resist posting something good here.

It might be the first time I've seen an MMO give players just about every emote the npcs have. That is fantastic. I mean leaning up against a wall? It's the little things.

    yeah lol
  • SotP_Kondor
I've had nothing but an exceptional gaming experience so far, and today will become a vet1 shortly after the servers are back up.

In the game I especially like the graphics and music, very immersive. I also enjoy the challenge with many of the quests, especially the storyline ones. When you eventually complete them you really feel like you've accomplished something.

I also want to give big kudos to the tech support people.

Haha, I love the emotes too! Back when the Northpoint quest was still bugged for the Daggerfall side of things, and there were always tons of people sitting around where you'd go to complete it (as people do with bugged quests).. one time I ran up to a bunch of people along the side of one of the houses in the area, all doing whatever emote it is that makes it look like they're hammering on the wall. One guy was shouting about how the house was almost done, and everyone just needed to keep working on it a little longer.

Part of the reason that good posts get lost, is because it seems people post in things they disagree with, more than things they agree with. It ends up rather defeating because good suggestions will get lost to the void, where bad ones stay alive on the first page.

I like playing with emotes and I absolutely love the no class restrictions on armor and weapons, and how the combat system actually requires you to pay attention to what you're doing!

I much prefer figuring out the controls on my own over ending up in a group where everyone has no freaking clue what they're doing.
  • mfischer303b14_ESO
Also nothing worse than a mmo were people are just clones of everybody else. Every thief wears the same gear, same skills, ect. I like it that you can chose to build a character that you like and be good at it.
  • Dbetz007

There is some of the same gear deal going on here at least look wise IMO but I can overlook that .. have found a few unique outfit styles that you cant craft yet however.

That's so funny. I love seeing things like that, it makes my day.

I feel like the emotes can bring life to the game; instead of silent toons running around aimlessly you can look confused if you're not sure where to go or frustrated at the rain that just moved in (as my lovely Khajiit often does).

OH! And I love the animations when someone is looking in their inventory or at a map. It adds so much immersion to see someone actually digging in their backpack.

I agree the emotes are well done and the animations for looking in bags etc are pretty cool too!

I didn't bother to read the comments in this forum b/c I liked the OP's suggestion: Good things in the game.
    - I like exploring and looking for skyshards, treasure, and books (this feature of the game is not yet broken :) )
    - I like seeing anchors drop from the sky and players gather from the nearby area to go kill some Daedra, very fun!
    - I enjoy fishing. I almost never catch anything good but it provides a nice relaxing break from the frey.
    - Crafting! lol. So addictive. I want to be the greatest armorer in Tamriel.
    - And finally, my horsey. So cute.

Agreed! My favorite is enchanting (though it's largely useless to me at this point) but it's very unique. Mind you, I've played very few MMO's compared to most so it's unique to me.

Content people don't usually speak out on forums and such.

Just like good news rarely makes it onto CNN.

If you see lots of whining, it's generally safe to assume it's the irrate, vocal few, rather than an epidemic of unhappiness. Angry people yell more.

I love how variable the game is as well.
"Oh the game only has four classes!"
My forehead gains indentations of my keyboard when I see that complaint...

That said, public forums are terrible places to get an idea of a game. They never, EVER talk about the good stuff, since they take that for granted. Instead it's complaining about X or Y bug which may be game breaking, but is apparently hard as hell to actually replicate.
Also the very cause of many of the bugs (especially quest objectives/NPCs not spawning) is the very thing that makes this game cool: No split servers. Everyone can play together!
    Which causes problems, though:
    1) As ZOS mentioned, the AH becomes a liability if everyone has access to it at all times. I can guarantee that if there WERE an AH, the item duping would be much, much worse and the mudflation would be legendary.
That said, I do wish they'd add a way to access the guild stores in keeps from a single location rather than running around. It'd be an interesting addition to say the least. It would motivate people to spread out among the other PVP realms. If there's an actual stake in conquering territory in Cyrodiil, more people will do it.
    2) There's this fun thing in testing where if you find a bug, you have to reproduce it. In dire cases, this can involve doing it over and over again. The more variables involved, the harder it is to reproduce and the harder it is to fix.
"But that's what open beta is for!"
Yes, it is. But here's the thing about beta: It involves fewer people than open release. Remember what I said about variables? If you have a hat full of 99 blue cards and one red card and have one person pull one card, it's a 1/100 chance they'll pull the red card. If you ask 10 people to each pull a card out, the chance of that red card being drawn goes up. And that's just one draw. Each successive draw brings the odds closer and closer to 1/1. Well, the stakes are a lot higher. In a standard MMO like, say, WoW or EQ1+2, there are only as many instances of an "overworld" zone running as there are servers.
For the sake of argument here, I'm discounting instanced dungeons as those are a common thread and work a bit differently. Actually smaller versions of ESO.
ESO functions much differently than other MMOs (with the exception of EVE, Champions, Star Trek, Guild Wars, and Neverwinter). With the exception of Cyrodiil, there are as many instances of each zone as there needs to be to meet the amount of players accessing at the same time. This is why when you log out and come back, it fixes a lot of bugs AND you're suddenly chatting in Zone with different people than before. It's also why "OMG MY PARTY MEMBER IS INVISIBLE!" happens.
Since there are so many things happening in so many zones at the same time, the likelihood of a bug that didn't get found in beta or couldn't be fixed in time for launch goes up.

I'm actually certain they're working on fixing the broken quests, but I'm also certain that, since the issues are so similar in nature (X mob/item/objective doesn't spawn) it's probably part of a larger problem they need to address.

Just my 2 cents. I could be wrong.
  • mfischer303b14_ESO
lol im always thinking of the American dad episode with the monkey with the shampoo hair . Monkey pet comes from what edition you buy of the game.
