Alliance warfare and Cross-faction guild members

Couldn't find a solid answer anywhere for this but I imagine it would be a big deal for a lot of other players too..
Are guilds able to sign up the entire guild as a single faction for alliance wars, perhaps once the guild reaches a certain player amount, so guild members join with other guildmates to fight under the same alliance banner with the guild?
For example, can a member of an Ebonheart guild, playing on a Daggerfall character level 50, in any way fight for Ebonheart in alliance war?
I don't see any logical reason why guilds require an 'allegiance' at all if we are unable to do this, but I can also see that we shouldn't be able to pvp with oppossing faction members/races - for RP sake.
If a a blue/dev/anyone could clarify this, I'd be extremely grateful
