Did I screw up getting all the lore books?

drawxne_ESO
So I'm level 35, in Windhelm, and loving the game so far!

But then I did some lorebook searching, looked up a guide, and found that there was one I missed... in the one-time only instance for one of the Fighter's Guild quests! :(

I contacted customer support, and got this response:

Response By Email (Edward) (04/16/2014 10:06 PM)
Greetings,

We currently do not have any information on this subject of "Lorebooks", as this is still a developing questline. However, we can say that the Lorebooks that appear in only one instance are placed in a manner so they are not missed.

If this answer does not feed your thirst for knowledge, let us know in a reply and we will do our best to assist you. Thank you for being patient with us today.

You can find more information about The Elder Scrolls Online on our website and social channels (Facebook, Twitter, and Google+).

Thank you for your interest and support!

Warm Regards,
The Elder Scrolls Online Team
----

Needless to say, not really the answer I was looking for... Will I be able to find the lorebook in a later place, or am I SoL?

As far as I have understood, the lorebooks with the purple glow around them are the ones that are only found once in the environment. I think all the lorebooks in instanced zones are of the traditional gold variety and thus have a backup copy somewhere else in the overworld.

Atleast that's what I've been led to believe.

I'm kind of curious what happens if you picked up lore books before joining the mage guild. Are those books still credited towards the guild rank or not. I may have messed that up on one of my alts.
  • drawxne_ESO
Nope. I found a lore book with a purple glow inside the one-time location of Abagarlas for the Fighter's Guild quest the Prismatic Core. (The book is The Exegesis of Merid-Nunda.) And it was in an easily-overlooked location, contrary to what the email I received said. This is what made me look up the previous Fighters Guild quests, and sure enough, a purple lore book is found inside the one-time instance for The Dangerous Past quest. This is why I'm worried I've screwed myself out of completing my lore collection on this character, who is also my main.

If they did indeed do this, I really would expect them to place those books outside the entrance to those instanced zones for people who have already completed the quests.

It's unacceptable to have players miss a "developing search" just because they weren't micromanaging every last instance.

Aren't lorebooks found more than once? I feel like I've seen several of the same in one region.

The purple ones disappear and then are added to your lore tab, so you would only "see" one once on one character I think unless I've missed something. But maybe they have alternate locations as well, that's the important question. I would also hate to have gaps with no other way of filling them in.

When I found the lorebook in question it had a yellow glow instead of a blue one. I submitted a bug report and screenshot of it being a cosmetic defect. I am not sure how bad off you will be if don't get all of them or if a few won't be very noticeable in the long run. One of my toons missed it as well.

I know I've had purple glowing books not pop up with a title, and it seemed like a familiar book that I encountered earlier in the day.

It still counts. For "immersion's" sake I didn't join mages guild until I figured it was silly not to (level 30+ mind you) and when I joined the game spammed me with messages on leveling it up to 7. It still counts you just don't get a message and unique sound on picking it up.

On the topic I do hope myself it can be dealt with later on. I bet I missed some as well..

I do not think CS meant instance in the way that you mean it. In this case, it does not mean if the lorebook is only found in an instanced environment. It means if there is only one spawn location (instance) for the book.

In case you were not aware, many Mages Guild purple lorebooks have multiple spawn points. Finding it in one location removes it from other locations. I do not know for certain if that is the case with the book in question. However, it very well may be that you can still find that book somewhere else. The lorebook list may not list other spawns as it may not know of them all.

Yea the blue books spawn in random locations. I have multiple alts, and where one finds a lorebook, other finds an empty table. If you missed a book, you will eventually find it somewhere else.

I have the opposite view .. this is a Good Thing as it rewards those that take their time and explore everything rather than rushing through dungeons, skipping everything they can to reach then, get the phat lewt and get the Hell out as fast as possible.

Sadly, I am one of those players who takes his time and takes everything in and explores, yet I still missed this book, and it is putting my OCD into overdrive...

I might be late, but I wanted to give you some good news. From my knowledge the 2 lorebooks you can get in the fighter's guild quest lines (Exegesis of Merid-Nunda) and (The Whithering of Delodiil) can also be found in Coldharbour later on.

I think especially Coldharbour lorebooks might not be unique and scattered across instanced, non-repeatable quest line areas.

So if you miss them on your first run, you should be able to do them later on.
    Hope that helps.

Some lore books have multiply spawn locations, but once you pick it up, you never see the other spots.

Each lore book in a 'visit once' location has another spot that can be visited whenever. So your not stuffed with lore books.

There are a few achievements tho that can be 'never completed' if you do the wrong options, but not the lore books.

You have 3 entire faction zones to get them. Unless its for a lore thing, youll get more than enough to max out your mages guild.

Lore books have multiple acquisition points. Acquiring one will make all of the same lorebook disappear from ur phasing. Other people can still see it. Jyst not you.
