Reinstalled game, but now I have no audio.

gardenia.ren67ub17_ESO
My audio has worked just fine until this latest patch that gave us the lovely 209 error. Doing a 3rd delete and reinstall finally got me past the 209, but now I have no audio past the initial splash screen. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I saw a thread for Mac users with this issue, but I'm on a PC.

Let's start with the obvious. Have you run the repair function on the launcher?

Yes, several times. I have also done complete uninstall and reinstalls 3 times to finally get past error 209. I did a repair, got into the game, logged out, tried to repair just now, and I'm stuck in the "repair, verify, repair, verify loop. If I stop and resume, or stop and run repair again, I get the "web-get failed" error.

I have tried to run as administrator, I have tried to install on the D drive instead of my C drive, and tried to use both the beta version and the retail version before deleting everything and starting over.

Between this and the bank bug, I am ready to cry.

Yes, my audio is set up correctly. Itunes works fine, and I hear the splash screen fine. The patch yesterday broke something.

Have you deleted the UserSettings.ini file under My Documents?

209 is because Bethesda haven't realised their GeoIP DNS records on bethesda.net is broken in some areas. As a result, sometimes the game will start, other times it won't. I'm waiting to see if ZOS/Bethesda can work it out without explicitly being told the problem.

Sound - delete usersettings.txt under my docs - elder scrolls online. Or rename it. Restart.

I'm not seeing anything like usersettings or an .ini file under my docs.

    C:\Users\_____\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live

Look for the text file named UserSettings.

You can either delete it, or move it elsewhere.

If you delete it, the launcher will create a new copy of it when you boot up the game.

That's what you want to try. Force a new copy to be made.

If it ever gets out of the loop I'll see if it makes a copy. Under \Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live the only folders I have are Errors, Logs, Saved Variables, and Screenshots. That's it. I've opened those folders and see no .txt file. Sorry to be a PITA :( I appreciate you're trying to help. I really do.

They actually already posted today saying they have fixed the 209 error.

That's really odd, and probably related to the issue. The splash videos you're seeing are just prerendered video files, thus they would not be affected by settings that affect the client itself. That's why you can hear them, but nothing else.

Your document folder should definitely have a UserSettings file in it. It should look something like this.

    mdlvwzfeg6nv.png

What I'll try to do is give you my UserSettings data (obviously with saved credentials removed) and you should be able to just drop that into your C:\Users\_____\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live directory.

However, since uploading text documents is not allowed we'll have to create the file manually.

Inside the directory specified above (the same parent folder containing Screenshots, Errors, Logs) right-click and create a New Text Document. Rename this to exactly 'UserSettings'.

Copy and paste the follow contents into this new file.
