Error message 201

I'm getting an error message: 201 which prevents me from logging into the game. I bought the game yesterday and I'm yet to create a character. I've even tried logging into my account on a friends computer which I know works and I've even tried logging into his account on my computer (just for fun).
I've been in contact with Customer Support about this issue, but that didn't solve my problems, so I'm trying it out here!

btw, logging into my friends account didn't work either.

Try disabling your Anti-virus if you have one. I had same issue, and this solved it.

That didn't work either. But it did try and download another update, but then I got error message 210...

Firstly you shouldn't be logging into your friends account, even if he allowed you too as it's classed as account sharing and is a violation of the Terms of Use.

In regards to what @GrundelWolfe said, try turning off any anti-virus you may have turned and most importantly make sure that any firewall you have, that it's not blocking ElderScrollsOnline.

Another thing you can try is reboot your computer and boot up the computer in Selective Startup Mode with Internet Access. Then go through the process of loading the launcher and this should allow it to go through without any problems.

Being unable to log in is a sign of an unpatched client.

Having the launcher report a version fail error (209) is an inconvenience that can be worked around for now, and temporarily, by restarting the launcher until the game allows you to play. They made a mistake last night when they released a patch and we are waiting for them to fix the servers.

You do need to be at the current game patch level (after pressing Play, you will see this in the lower left) eso.live.1.0.0.968197
