Dear Everyone,

i have spent a week going back and forth between ESO support and amazon trying to figure out how i can play this wonderful game. the answer is that i can not play without first having my physical edition in hand.
In my trying to chase down the facts of what is going on, i found a few basic problems i thought i would share. if my passion was customer service then understanding the situation better would allow me to help the customer solves their problem quicker and more directly. this would also help to reduce the amount of time spent on each customers case and how often the case would have to be revisited and by doing this it would reduce the load on ESO support.
the problem i have been experiencing is that even tho i preordered the game in February and was able to enjoy my 5 days early access, i have been locked out of the game from April 6th to present. the lock out is due to not being able to subscribe to a payment plan. it is understandable to require those playing a pay game to show how they are planning on paying and to show proof that are able to pay. sadly, i am also locked out of being able to get onto the subscription page due to not having my game code.
the website requires the game code as proof that we have purchased the game before it will allow us to move forward. this also makes sense. there is no need to pay a subscription for something we don't have. that would be like paying for car insurance when i don't own a car.
the solution then is to put our game code into the correct place on the website and follow the steps. that is where my problem is. i do not have my game code, ESO support does not have my game code and most of all, Amazon does not have my game code. i have been told two times now by ESO support to contact Amazon to get my game code. ESO never gave the game code to Amazon to be able to give it out. the only codes ESO gave to Amazon were the bonus codes for the preorder digital goodies. the game code for the physical copy is inside the box of the physical order. there is nothing i can do about the situation other than wait for my order to arrive.
i am not upset about the situation. i learned along time ago that life is to short to become upset over having to wait a week to play a game i enjoy. in fact my wife and i are so excited about this game we both bought new computers ( tax returns rock ) to make sure we would could get the full experience, bought the collectors edition and said good bye to guilds and guild mates we have known and played with for years in favor of playing this game. needless to say, we are invested in ESO.
we have no intention of leaving this awesome game but we do wonder if our investment is sound. we can see Gina and Jessica working on the forums and they seem to be doing a good job within the boundary of their positions. sadly due to the responses we have received from the ESO support and the silence from ESO in general on the issues at hand, we wonder if ESO is investing in us as well or only in the game itself.
it is our hope that the total of the ESO community will become a family. not just by guild lines or by website forum communities lines, but with the players, the ESO staff and supporting sites all saying we are in this together. we want this to be the best gaming family in existence. or at least that is our hope.
for this to happen ESO is going to have to show they care. a screaming silence and support sending people to chase down dead ends does not support this idea of caring. it in fact gives the impression of not caring and that nobody can be bothered to stop and figure out the problem to fix it.
at the same time those of us who play the game and who have issues need to chill and have some patience. the anger and threats do not help. the sending in many tickets does nothing but slow down the whole process. if you have time to post on the forums about issues, how about trying to be part of solution rather than throwing pitty parties. its amazing how powerful we as a community can be when we work on fixing problems rather than screaming about them.
i have found myself feeling bad for Gina and Jessica. my mind brings up imagery of them armoring up so they could wade into a mob of blood thirsty zombies unsupported so they can deal with some meaningless detail somebody else is screaming to be life and death.
i am not saying this has been a perfect start to the game. but i am saying reactions all the way around could have been alot better.

feel free to tear me and what i wrote apart if you feel the need. it will give me something to read while i wait for my game to arrive =)

'Best Regards'

Don't feel bad for those that are paid to deal with this kind of thing. It is their jobs, as it is the police officer's job to make an arrest, even if that means arresting the only parent of three young children. Life isn't easy, nor is it fair. But regardless of such, if you try to sell something you don't have, you may as well be trying to sell snake oil and lambasted for it.

It may be their job to deal with problems, but they still shouldn't have to deal with jerks. The idea that it is okay to be rude is relatively recent and is horrible. It costs nothing extra to be polite and civil. The idea that you don't have to be is part of the "entitlement" mindset that has gripped modern society. After all, if you believe the world revolves around you why should you be decent, patient and understanding with others. Anybody that would be rude and nasty to somebody about a game definitely has problems that go way beyond ESO.

Also, if you are rude to the CSRs, you are not being rude to the people who handle distribution. You are attacking somebody that is far removed from that part of the company. It is like yelling at the deli clerk at the supermarket because the ATM is broken. Makes no sense and ultimately doesn't solve the problem. You are blowing off steam but totally misdirecting it. And really, are you being hurt at the end of the day by having to wait for your game to arrive? Once more, if you believe you are your issues go way beyond computer games.

no life is not easy and it is not fair. that being true does not mean we should not have compassion and understanding. in fact we should have more compassion and more understanding because of it.
i know everyone loves it when their boss' screw up doubles or triples our work load and its always fun having a job catching peoples anger over things we have no control over. i would imagine its about as much fun as having things we paid for not work out the way we had hoped.

It's always the humble ones who say the best words. It's those kinds of people that will form a stable community, by the end of the game. Anyone who can speak like this is definitely not a fool, in my opinion. :)
