Noob questions/ new kind of mmo?

Hey so I just started playing yesterday, and found I have questions that I could not find the answers to...

1) Why am I seeing orcs and other races not part of the ebonhart pact in town? they are even lower level players to. can you just walk to another factions town, without the guards attacking you? are they not at war?

2) are the closed dungeons that you can only go in with you're group, like an instance from previous mmo's? example, can you run them as many times as you want? are they quest only? que times?

3) Am I getting experience from killing mobs, or using my skills, or a combination of both?

4) Do we know yet how rare certain items are in the game? I know about different colors of items,(white, green, blue, purple?) is that the extent to item rarity? or do we have legendary items, which are extremely hard to obtain? Just concerned with the market, dont want everyone in the game to have the same items....

thanks for answering my questions!!

    1) If you pre-ordered you got the option of playing any race in any faction.

    2) There are some instances that are group instances. There are other quests that you have to go solo. I don't know but I THINK the group instances can be run over and over again

    3) I know you can get exp fro killing mobs, and I know I got some picking chests, not sure if you get it when you use your skills . Maybe someone else can answer that one

    4) I'm not sure about the item rarity. A crafter can actually craft and improve weapons and armor up to legendary.

Also - remember there is no AH in ESO :)

Ok, thanks for your reply! Still have a few un answered questions.

    1) So will guards in other factions not attack you then? are you not able to even see the other factions players in the pve world?

I found out that there are multiple ways to gain experience: turn in quests, killing mobs, exploring new areas.

    2) So the items rarity's are white, green, blue, and purple being the most rare?
,are you able to craft purple items? or are they found ?

    1) It's my understanding that you're not able to access the other alliances' areas until you're doing veteran content (which are an additional 10 extra hard levels* post standard 50th level). So I don't think you have to worry about getting attacked, at least not until that point?

    2) Items of all rarities (white through gold) can be both found/dropped and crafted. All items are white when initially crafted. You use additional crafting resources, of increasing rarity to have a chance to move the items up to the next tier. These items offer a chance to do this, but you can use multiples to increase the chance to 100%. If you keep the chance below 100%, it's possible to lose the item in the attempt. So I can make a level 10 iron axe, then use 1 honing stone to give me a 20% chance to improve the item to green quality. I can use 5 stones to give me a 100% chance to do it.

I've received green items as quest rewards and found them in chests and as drops. The only blue item I've found has been a racial motiff and I've looted a purple enchanting rune, but from what I've seen in chat channels it looks like purple items can drop as well.

    1) If I'm not mistaken, you can only get to other factions' PvE zones at level 50 when you do them as Veteran content, and then you will be in a phased version that is all level 50+ players anyways.

    2) Items go white->green->blue->purple->gold. Up to purple can drop, gold is only possible via crafting upgrade a purple->gold.

    1. You're talking about two different things here, guys.

Pre-order bonus: you can start as any race in any alliance. It is no different from playing as one of 'correct' races. You're just an Orc who's a member of the Ebonheart Pact: a mercenary, a guy whose family always lived there, whatever. Not an enemy. You can see other players from your alliance and group with them.

50+ content: you can travel to other alliances and do veteran content, but you won't see players from that alliance (or was that changed? I don't know, I'm still far from 50).

    4. I was under impression that gold items don't drop, they have to be upgraded from purples. Necessary materials aren't very abundant, so there's this.

    thanks for some answers guys!

Ok, so there is no visiting other faction citys if you are under lvl 50?

and gold is the highest level of item but, you cannot find gold items off mobs? that does not make sense or seem fair for people who have no desire to craft, but would rather kill mobs for good loot. am I alone on that?

    1) If you preordered, you unlocked faction/race. That means people can have their character belong to any faction regardless of race. So a player could have an EP character who is also an Orc and not just a Nord, Dunmer, or Argonian.

If you think this somehow breaks the rules or that guards should attack them on sight, take a closer look at the NPCs, especially in the Fighter's Guild. Cross faction races are already a part of the world.

And the other style of MMOs that make Gold gear ONLY drop off monsters are unfair to the crafters. I like this decision. It will keep the community involved instead of it being "Raid Gated" ugh, raids... This isn't to say that the Purple Items at max level and VR10 won't be very similar to the gold ones. Still is a nice feature ;)

Yes ,I agree that crafting should def be able to compete with dropped gear, but to make it better than dropped gear? whats the point in going out to kill the big bosses in the game to look for nice gear, if you can just craft something better than any mob will drop. and I am not into crafting, so I get screwed.

To craft an item, from scratch to gold, you have to create a white, then upgrade it every level.

So ideally you go kill a boss and get a purple sword. Then you take that sword and upgrade it to gold via your blacksmithing to make it even better. Perfect marriage of both worlds :)

I guess I will have to give crafting a try. One other question. Are stats on weapons all the same or are they roll different? Example: you want to make a 1h green sword, each time you make the green sword do they all have 11 damage and what ever magical property? or can it roll a higer stat on random such as 15 damage??

Actually you can add traits to weapons or armor - which give you pluses for certain things. You have to research the trait - which means you have to have a weapon or armor with that trait on you or in your bank. Then when you research it - it destroys the item. You can also add Glyphs to your weapons or armor - people can craft the glyphs or you can get them from drops. You can also find areas in the zones that allow you to craft set armor - this gives you pluses for things depending on how many items you have. Also too you can find some sets as drops.
Just a note researching is fun - but it does take time and the time grows. Your first research project takes 6 hours. Then the next will take 12 hours and so forth. There are crafting skills you can use a skill point on to reduce the time and allow you to research more than one item.
