Late Night Takeovers

The biggest issue with these Campaigns is the simple fact that it only takes a guild of 30-40 to face roll a map over night whilst everyone else is in Bed.
We have already seen it on some campaigns where one faction will make noticeable gains during the day to only have them removed over night!

This is what happens on Auriel's bow(EU) During peak hours it's pretty well balanced with all factions filling up. Yet before and after peak hours EP absolutely dominate the map. Playing at night as DC is almost impossible to make any gains as EP usually has 3 bars pop still, whilst AD and DC have 1 each. Not to mention EP has some very large guilds of which many of their players are vets. Those guys never sleep i swear. Still, i love a challenge...

That's the fun of a RvR system... it's a 24/7 battle. It would lose its essence if it didn't have these situations.

Just weird you get the big imbalance of population never had that in past mmos... Is it because Aussies don't have a dedicated server and all went to that server/alliance?

It's a crazy situation an Bloodthorn EU...
We, the alsmeri Dominion have more latennight people, so we get our points at night, the EP has most people and has peaks at morning 0700 or something, and at 1600... DG is strong after 1600 and somehow between 0700 and 10...
from 1200 to 1500 its well balanced and from 1800 to 2200 it is balanced too...
It works, for now, the problem seems to be, that blue and red are always working with each other to get us from getting points, most of the time we are pushed back to Faregyll, perhaps holding alessia or roe, and DG and EP try to make an emperor... and then the next wave of players appear and everything changes...
Warden Main apparently... 7 Wardens currently, otherwise a healer of every class.
Mostly active in No CP PVP on EU, blaming the buffbot meta in pve.
I want to feel like I am saving somebodies life, not like I am carrying amunition for them...

On the EU server I can't help but thinking it's people from outside the time zone because everything happens after even the most westerly time zone has gone to sleep.

It's extremely dispiriting to spend a day fighting to get a few keeps back during the day for the whole map to be swarmed while everyone in Europe is asleep.

It means you permanently never have any scrolls. It means you basically start each day pinned back into the starting 2 camps.

The end result is people get fed up and either stop playing or move to another campaign in the vain hope the same thing isn't happening here.

It only takes 20 or 30 out of time zone clowns to ruin all the EU campaigns seeing how easy it is to switch.

I'd close down guesting and implement a 1 Account, 1 Server rule and let you switch campaigns just once for 100k AP.

It's an issue ZMO need to get to grips with.
  • shimmyatwa_ESO
It's not the fault of the company that the world has different time zones. Plus not everyone is on your schedule, people work different hours and not everyone can play at peak times. Doesn't mean they come from a different time zone.

Why can't they just hardcore buff NPCs if a side has a low population? That way at least there's something of a challenge

Honestly, I see this as a good thing. Means that you have plenty of keeps available to take the next day. If your campaign is all focused in one timezone then you can't expect to hold everything in your off timezone. Its part of the ebb and flow of the conflict and it is what makes AvAvA so enjoyable.

Be thankful they didn't base the capture of Keeps off the Eve Online Sovereignty system, with day+ long timers for multiple structures for one system alone plus long structure bashes to actually kill those structures (assuming no enemies present). Be very thankful the enemy can just steamroll because that means you can steamroll too.

Find people to play at night then.

This is why its good to have representatives from several time zones.

24/7 war is 24/7 war. Deal with it. Adapt.

The truth is, some people perfer to ship tactics and wait for low population and start logging on, or are in way different timezones from the rest of the server.

Basically waiting for low population, then zerging are some people's tactics. or they can't find a campaign that more matches their time zones to be a challenge.

Thats not really a solution at all. Sometimes those people simply dont exist. It is entirely possible that in an EU campaign, on some of the factions, people who can play at night are not present.

A lot of NA players/guilds seem to not understand the plight of EU servers when it comes to this game mode. GW2 was no different. NA is covered by NA/oceanic/asian timezones, EU is just EU. It may be 24/7 war but we do not cover a enough timezones to validate that playstyle. Again, the exact same issue with GW2 where a handful of servers which had nightcappers ruled supreme.

The solution is for different rulesets for NA and EU server in the future for ava/rvr/wvw game modes where developers actually acknowledge the dynamics of EU servers vs NA servers.

If its 24/7 war then how about ZOS adapt and make all campaigns international instead of splitting EU and NA. Whats that? they cant due to tech reasons? well some of us cant play due to... sleep reasons. I think that is a fair statement.

Sounds to me like people want the game to stop because they need to sleep. I can to an extent understand the frustration but they can't really make a change to it without ruining it for somebody else.

I like how everyone talks about sleep like all you do for the entire day is play ESO. I wish I could not work for a living and play games all day. Adapt to what the game has to offer you atm. More than likely it will adapt to wishes of the players, but i doubt any time soon. Just wait and see what ESO has to offer, if you do not like it, do not continue a subscription.

Just to confirm, I have no issue with how the Campaigns work. I love the PVP in this game.
It is just an observation that it is entirely possible to crown an new emperor and capture all the scrolls in one early morning session!
    Should it be possible!
What effect does this have on the Campaign?
It is still early days on all of the campaigns, so on some one faction dominates completely. When this happens does it encourage PVP? or do people look elsewhere?
In my experience Goldbrand we have a fightback, and claim some keeps back, but next day the AD have captured them all back overnight.
Should it be a campaign dominated by the faction that can field most players at a time that no one else is online!

While the king and his knights are away at war who guards their castles at home? It seems to me like that sort of situation.

Of course you could look at it in a spooky tale sort of way... <narrated with Vincent Price Voice> At night, while you are asleep, the Oceanics come ashore to pillage and plunder, so lock your doors and hide under the covers, they're coming for your scrolls... your scrolls... muwahahaha.

Hopefully this situation improves when the EU servers are properly moved to EU and playing from distant time zones is no longer viable.

    Imbalance in pop surprises you?

One of the main problems of Large Scale 24/7 PvP in any game is coverage. And its not just Aussies ... its the entire Asain Pacific Time frame. If a server is NA Primetime you can easily have the Koreans/Japanese/Russians completely flip maps while defenders dream in their beds.
The latest example of this (not including ESO) is GW2. The main reason servers would be in tier 1 is because they had 'round the clock coverage.

I played on 3 diif servers in GW2. One with NA prime and medium nightly coverage, one with no night coverage and one with 24/7 coverage.
(Blackgate, was with them for about 6 months.. by far my favorite server while I played WvW)

And naturally this doesn't include how the Campaigns can spike at any point for any faction thanks to the Travel to players feature when initially joining cyrodiil. (Or party lead queuing group.)

I say we still have a month, so let people hit VR1 and start filling up PvP.

And when that day comes... then we can talk about coverage imbalance. :)

I look at this a different way... it enables other alliances to have their moment and stay in pvp. if it remained too stagnant, one side the perpetual victor it would be boring and players would just give up.

In one day of pvp I started battling with only a few keeps still standing, no scrolls and a sea of enemy alliances on our doorstep. thru the next hours we went to take over most of one alliance territory and started on the next. That same nite we were beaten back.

    it keeps things fresh

You do realize that there are people playing across the globe or doing night shift? plus on the upside you get to recap the keeps the next day which helps you rank up.

what a lot of people seem to deliberately miss is that as far as scores go a 50 man nightly raid can easily generate more points than a 250 people fighting over keeps all day long. thats the issue here. so stop with the *** "you want pvp to stop when you go to sleep" arguments...nobody asking for that.
what needs to happen is that some sort of mechanic is put into place to normalize scores during lowpop hours.

When one faction; night after night after night, retakes all the map assets that the 3 factions have fought over, that is not random. It's not people spread across all factions logging on after night shift or whatever. It's an organised group of people who think it's funny to log their euro server characters and mess with a campaign.

I seriously hope there will be some "less time consuming" version of Cyrodiil implemented. Somewhat near to Battle Ground of WoW i think.

Lets say, ppl from different dominions go into queue. As soon as "enought" players in queue, compaign start.
Other players can then join the compaign, but they remain in queue if their dominion already overpopulater in that compaign untill it's get even.
Compaign last for, let's say, 1 hour 30 mins. You get rewards comparing to what ever your achievements at compaign was. Like total number of kills, total dmg done to buildings, number of castles under controll at the end of compaign etc.

For now, all your effort goes to zero as soon as you go sleep.

Also, may be some types of less massive PVP battles will be also implemented ?
Some times it is realy getting boring to play Cyrodiil since you usualy spend more time on traveling from one spot to another then on actual PvP because of the size of Cyrodiil and a very small number of possible spawn points and various restrictions on spawn. For example i will never understand why i can not spawn in the castle that is under attack.
I can understand it if i was in the different location at this time, but not if died trying to defend it ...

I am not shure, if there is a timer on choosing/switching a guest campaign. But actual rumours on the EU server is, that its is only one EP zerg that switches through the campaignes to colour all the maps red. I dont think, this is intended.

Nightcapping were a problem in Guild Wars 2. While I do see the problem, I don't have a solution, and neither had any AvA MMORPG that I have seen.
And in reallity, is it a REAL problem?
People have the right to play at any hour of the day. Some life in differernt timezones, some have other works hours, while others simply prefer to play off peak hours.

Now I do get people are both annoyed and frustrated about it, but then again, this is 24/7 war, so the war rages on every hour of the day. The solution with stronger PvE Guards won't work... We don't PvP to fight mobs (Which in general is a major problem in TESO, at least while upscaled, the Guards are stupid strong, but that's another topic).

Giving less points out doing off-peak times is another example I often see. It ain't a solution either. Now I play in peaktime, but if we said I didn't. I pay the same price as everyone else. If I only were able to play in the night, I shouldn't be punished by being able to do "less" for the campaign I'm in. It's simply bad marketing.

It won't work with simply not allowing people to caputre keeps in a fixed time period, nor having only a selected few campaings 24/7 where the people that only play at night can play. Because that would lead to the faction with the most palyers and strongest up tp closing point, would sit on everything for the rest of the night.

In general, if people could find a perfect solution for it, that would be cool. I just don't think there is a solution, and it dosn't bother me either. Because in the end, it is just a game, and 24/7 war are fun! :)
