Game reset my quest

So I was doing the main quest (level 35) and I died a lot on the boss Titan, because his fireball apparently also hits target behind/beside him sometimes. However when I proceed to the tomb and fight the skeleton bosses, I die a lot too, mostly because of my broken gear and Vampirism stage 3..
I go back out of the tomb, then back out of the portal and teleport to Davon's Watch(town) to repair my gear.
When I come back to enter the portal, the whole quest has reset.
Not sure if this is a bug or supposed to be that way, but I just wasted a lot of time and gold.
