Self Troubleshooting, a few tips to help resolve the simple issues you may be experiencing...

ThommyGunn
I was just thinking, reading a lot of these issues, yes some can't be solved by what I'm going to post, but I think quite a few of the simple ones can be and then people can stop blaming everything on this game or their team. They are obviously busy and the following are simple steps to troubleshoot the issue for yourself.

Remember, ALOT of people play this therefore there are TONS of computers out there, old, new, powerful, sluggish, gaming, media,& even just for e-mail computers. But when everyone wants to play a game, they have to remember not all computers will perform the same. Different driver sets, different hardware specs, its all a web of confusion for some. So check out my steps below and I hope I can help out a few;

1) Make sure your graphics drivers are updated to the newest. Some computers have 2 graphics cards, 1 on their mother board and one for games and graphic extensive stuff, make sure you update both. This may help mobs popping in and out, weird colors of graphics, and random glitches where you may fall through "cracks"

2) Make sure sound card drivers are updated, may also help with falling through things (yes I know it sounds weird but its happened to me in the past) as well as popping of sound and whatnot.

3) Make sure your windows or Mac system updates are 100 up to day as well, I am not a Mac guy, but for Windows, I know if you haven't updated for a while, you might be missing some key .NETframework files that the game may be using and why you can't log in or keep a stable connection. Make sure you have them all updates, the critical ones anyways, optional is up to you. I do them all except the bing bar.

4) Make sure shockwave and Java are both updates as well, you might not think they matter in the big scheme of things, but they still do play a part.

5) If you have ADDONs, and you've done the previous steps and your issues still not resolved, remove the ADDONs, don't just turn them off. In fact I am not sure why anyone would be using ADDONs on launch weekend when the game probably has its own issues first. Every time the game updates, which will be a lot through launch, depending on the updates, may require the addons to be updated as well and the people who make them aren't going to redo it 100 times during launch, therefore any issues, graphical or glitches could be because of the addons and the game files not cooperating properly. Remove them all then play, if your issue don't come back, put them back in 1 at a time until you figure out which one is your culprit. Addons can also cause weird graphic colors. Again, I highly recommend you don't use Addons until the community is more stable and the Addon creators more reputable (not saying some of you aren't) just saying for new people, be cautious when using them.

That's all I have at this time, before coming onto the forums raging out at someone to fix your issue, make sure you try to fix yourself first, then if the problem persists, contact support, at least then they will know you've done your best. It also takes the pressure off them for a bit since there is a million other things they are trying to take care of.

I hope I can help some of you, I know a lot of the issues with bank slots an missing items and quirky account issues, I can't do. But I figured i'd help some of you if I can, especially since I won't be getting my game until tomorrow thanks to Amazon.

But honestly, I have been playing since day one access and throughout the week, I haven't ran into 1 bug, glitch, issue. My only issue has come in the form of not getting my game in the mail. But I don't have any addon's and everything is updated.

Good luck everyone and hope to see you in game, look me up by this name if you wanna kill something ;)

Take care!

A very nice guide! It's important for people to take the initiative to try and solve their own problems before concluding they're "stuck forever"

One thing that is VITAL is taking the time to relog.
    Don't even bother using /reloadui,
Just log out and log back in instead.

At the very least, it helps to prevent rollbacks! Remember this!

Thanks for that link Otomodachi, I thought I saw something like that but couldn't locate it at the moment, that's a good source. And your right Terminus, good catch! Thanks!

What do you gain by criticizing a CSR complaint?

I don't mean to be a ***, and your advice is mostly sound, but I don't really see so many people complaining about hardware/driver issues here to justify your post and your self-bump 10 minutes after you originally posted it, especially during a major service disruption caused by today's maintenance... but that's just my $.02
  • ThommyGunn
Appreciate your .02 cents daemonios, I understand the disruption going on, and that people aren't specifically complaining about hardware or drivers, that is because they probably don't think about those things. The casual computer owner typically goes and buys a computer from somewhere and never again thinks about those things until they think their computer is broken. When that happens they then call tech support and spend some crazy about for a simple fix. I am making this for those people, to help them save time and money if they are experiencing any unusual or strange issues.

Several of the posts I read regarding graphical or sound issues, simply could be driver updates, but no one comments on their post or gives them an idea, so I am merely putting this out there to give troubleshooting ideas, that's all.

As for the disruption, that can't be helped by me, I just had this in my head and wanted to put it out there to help. Didn't mean to offend you in any way or rub you the wrong way. Hope you get back into your game and your good to go.

This too. Also, for this game, unlike some other MMO's (like WOW), logging out to the character select and then picking your character again is NOT the same as relogging. To relog in this game, you have to completely quit, and then relaunch and log back in. This is due to how the megaserver works. I've seen people complaining that "relogging doesn't fix anything", only to find they weren't *actually* relogging.

I discovered this when they reactivated guilds after the issue last week. Your guilds didn't return until you completed exited and logged back in, just relogging your character didn't work.

Good point, I also recommend closing and reopen the launcher too.

Another point that should be added to this thread. Be prepared to disable addons if you are having anything odd, like FPS issues, or the UI not working right. ESPECIALLY after patches. Running addons written for an earlier version of the game can seriously hose just about everything. Far too many people just blindly click "load outdated addons" when they launch the game after updates and then complain that they are getting 5fps on a high end system.
