People saying this is common practice simply because they don't have any experience with this model and trying to defend publisher (probably because of being hardcore fanboy) and his model which is simply against consumers. They giving you option to use gamecode cards as a subscription method, but instead just check the box and buy the code at the end of the available period you are forced to buy the 2nd month before you will even play the first, not-do-free month you got with the game. -

If you had bothered reading the terms of service before buying the game, you would've known this and could've refused to buy the game based on the fact that you have to setup a subscription even before knowing if you want to continue playing the game or not...
Yes they could do it differently, they could let you play for 30 days without setting anything up but it isn't like that at the moment and they've been very clear about it.
People just like complaining for absolutely no reasons. -

There's your problem. Not Zenimax fault you don't have a credit card to setup the subscription. As soon as you bought the game, you agreed to the TOS and if you had read them or even just read what the requirements for the game was, you wouldn't have bumped into this problem.

For all the games I played it was enough to check game time option without actually buying the 2nd month to do that. I can understand the CC validation. But why do they want to validate my ability to buy a game time card?
Don't be a sheep. If they wrote in the ToS that you have to pay E500 every 5 month you still would saying it is fine because it was written in ToS? Stupid and unnecessary terms are stupid regardless if they are written or not. -

Synikil1113Soul Shriveni might be misunderstanding, but from what i've seen in this thread people are upset that they have to pay for another 30days before they get their free 30 days? If this is what is actually being said i don't believe that it is actually working this way. Yes, they require you to set up a subscription before you can continue playing, this is true. Maybe its because i'm sorta old, but this is the way i remember almost all subscription based things on the internet being. So just put in the info, they don't actually charge you till the free thirty days are over. Just set up your subscription, log into the game and play for a few minutes so you know their system took it then log back into your account and cancel the subscription. Presto, you have your free thirty days, you are NOT charged for the next thirty days yet, and if you can't afford it after the free thirty days you will not be charged for it since you already cancelled your subscription. I've done this with every game that requires a subscription set up and have never had an issue. -

I read the back of the box because that is what I purchased. It states that valid payment method or paid game time card for subscription is required. Not that subscription is required to redeem the 30 days free time. One could even go so far as to make the argument that the 30 days free time is considered a paid time card.
While it didn't prevent me from registering the game, I'm simply stating that the wording that they printed on the box was poorly conceived. Between the poor wording and the commonplace practice of P2P games not requiring credit card validation upon registering your license key, I can see how people are miffed.

It is supposed to be a temporary account verification charge that will be removed. You must have signed up for the 6 moth plan for the temp charge to be that high when most are upset about 15$

1 is not entirely true. It is true if you use cc/paypal but for other payment methods you have to buy 30 more days to be able to use ur free 30 days.

This is how I and the rest understand it, and this is how it is written, tbh.
I don't mind it anyway. Only thing I am sad about is unavailable prepaids, since this SHOULD be available at release and is not, and it is keeping most of player base away from game now. Not our fault that we do not own, do not want to own credit cards and such if prepaid option is here.

GW2 don't have a monthly fee.
SWTOR (when it wasn't F2P) and especially WoW had this concept.
I needed to buy a time card or 30 days on Blizzard before activating my serial key, WoW without any expansions.
People are going to say, but if you buy a battlechest........ Yes, afcourse! Because there is a time card included.
Without it, you still need to pay 30 extra days (60 in total).
Even AngryJoe make this joke in his Guild Wars 2 review, about the $15 dollar when he was trying to buy WoW. Check it out!

Using the 30 days included game time that I got when I bought the game is something completely different and I can't find anywhere where it states I have to not only get a subscription plan, but have the funds TODAY on my account in order to activate the included gametime...
I pre-ordered the digital imperial edition months ago, played in betas etc.. And this is the thanks I get... Oh, and if this is only to verify that I have a valid paypal account or VISA card, I already did that when I bought the game in the first place?
I'm giving them 24h to sort this out and activate my 30 days, then I am getting a refund.

really if this is too challenging for you, drop the games, go back to work, and come back in a month when you have money. I'm sure you can tell this isn't some thrown-together MMO, its a AAA MMO, and premium experiences do not come cheap.

No I'm not saying its too challenging to me, and if I thought it was too expensive I wouldn't have bought the imperial edition now would I?
It's just that right now I'm stuck with no funds on my VISA or paypal until the 27th of April, but I that should be fine, since I already bought the game with 30 days included game time. Except it's not, because without having the equivalent of 1 month subscription on my account, I can't access those 30 days..
The irony of it all is that what brought my funds to 0 is the yearly VISA card fee.. LOL
