I want to take a moment to thank ZOS for going out of their way to implement features that don't affect the hardcore PvE/PvP experience, but are designed to be fun-first.

Specifically, in Update 50, we're getting a "Slaughter" mechanic for the Werewolf which allows us to "assassinate" humanoid targets in a similar fashion to Vampire feeding. The patch notes call this out as a "fun-first experience":

(Note that several animations and VFX here have been adjusted since this video was recorded)

Seriously, this is a feature from TES V: Skyrim which was one of the main selling points of that game for me. It is a lot of fun going around slaughtering people as a werewolf with these killmove animations. I seriously can't wait for this update to drop!

Another upcoming "fun-first" feature from Update 50 that I'd like to call out is Challenge Difficulty. This is disabled in PvP and in PvE content which already has difficulty settings, but for overland content, it is surprisingly fun. It makes applicable content have the same sort of challenge as dungeons or trials, and it can be adjusted to your liking. I like when the enemies don't instantly melt, and finding the right balance keeps the encounters engaging.

Both of these features are what I'd describe as "fun-first". They're not impacting the meta in any way, and they're completely irrelevant to endgame players. It isn't like Scribing or Subclassing which have a direct impact on the endgame, or like Antiquities and Tales of Tribute which have rewards which can impact other parts of the game, like Housing.

In other words, we're never going to be required to use these features to get something in the game that we want, barring potential Golden Pursuit challenges. However, these features still enrich the playing experience, prioritizing fun above all else. We didn't need to get these optional features, yet I'm very thankful that we are getting them.

This thread isn't to say that I dislike how gameplay systems reward you and interact with other parts of the game. And of course, endgame PvE and PvP is fun, too — I highly encourage you reading this thread to try those out yourself if you haven't already. I'm just glad that effort is being put in to make this game more fun overall!
