Problems patching from beta to live

I have a problem that started with the game not wanting to patch from beta to live. It was a few hours into the 5 day headstart. I started up the launcher, and launched the game. The game said I needed to patch so I went back to the launcher. Launcher didn't download any updates.

I checked the forums. Didn't find anything relevant to my situation. I did a google search. Someone on a forum somewhere was having a similar problem and reinstalling the launcher fixed their problem. I noticed when I downloaded the new launcher that it was the "live" launcher as opposed to my "beta" launcher that I had leftover in my downloads folder.

I launched the launcher installer, and pointed it to install in the same location I had previously selected: D:\Games\TESO

It made a folder called launcher and proceeded much as it seemed to have the first time I ran it, roughly two weeks prior (the beta version)

It installed and did some other stuff, and then began downloading.

*facepalm*

It was trying to download the whole game all over again =(

Desperately, I began searching google again and trying to figure out what I did wrong.

I couldn't find anything that helped. Then I realized I was sorta screwed. I let it download.

Mind you, my internet isn't very fast. (1 Megabit/s) is the RATING but often it's much slower depending on network traffic. The type of internet I have is wireless, on 900mhz over air to a tower about 2 miles north of me. My signal to the tower averages -66 db on good days and -74 on rainy days, so the signal is pretty good. However, it's a 50 megs (TOTAL ISP BANDWIDTH) distributed over a network of towers to a small community. 400 subscribers. Downloading the beta the first time look so long, I completely missed out on the beta play window and had to wait for the next one. I was really not looking forward to this.

From approximately 1 AM on 4/1/14 until 9 PM on 4/4/14 it's downloading. It has 2.2 gigs left.

News reports say a really bad thunderstorm is coming in. I go to the computer and pause the download on the launcher and close the program, close some other things, and then shut down the computer. I unplug the computer (UPS). I unplug the coax on my tv tuner. I unplug the network cable. I unplug the power strip that's powering my entire desk. I go over and unplug the router from the wall, and the antenna tower from the router. (yes, I actually did all of this. I'm incredibly fearful of losing *another* computer to a freak lightning storm)

The storm comes and the power goes soon afterwards. I sit in the dark for four hours as I wait for the storm to pass.

After the storm, I power back on as per settings I selected, the launcher comes up with the computer and the launcher says something about a missing file. (index file? I don't recall exactly. It sounded important.)

I click okay, and it goes to the launcher main screen. Where it said "pause" before, on the download, it said "install". Where it had the progress bar was empty. I swallowed hard, and clicked install.

:confounded:

I throw a fit for a moment (which as far as I know, no one saw, or /will ever/ see.).

I gather my thoughts. I set off to write this post.

As I finish this, the download is doing its thing with no indication of any problem what so ever. But I'm afraid to touch it. I'm afraid to restart. I'm afraid to do other things which could potentially crash my computer.

And I'll be afraid for as long as this takes to finish. Especially towards the end.

I read that patching from beta to live would be easy so I didn't really expect all this. I felt sure I would be able to get in on early access with time to spare. That was four days ago. And now... a mere four hours from launch, I still have over 22 gigs left to download.

So I completely missed out on early access, and now, unless launch gets delayed, I won't be around for launch.

Anyway... I'm just really tired and frustrated and upset.

And there is nothing that anyone can do about it.

    Sounds really frustrating

I would of said to try do a repair install (https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3330), rather than start a download again, but because it's started again automatically I would not do this.

Not sure why the download didn't correctly pause, but I would check the installation folder in case the files are already there.

Check to make sure the folder size isn't already around 30gb (right click folder > Properties).

If it isn't then all I can recommend is to let the patcher do it's thing without interrupting it.

Hopefully see you in Tamriel soon!

Under "D:Games\TESO" is "Launcher" @ 45.1 MB, and "The Elder Scrolls Online" size: 22.4 GB. size on disk: 833 MB

The 'live' launcher downloaded and installed on 4.1.14 wiped out the beta installation I had, and then decided to completely wipe out all it had downloaded to when the index got corrupted earlier tonight. There's nothing left, unfortunately. :confounded:
