Been away from the game since Elsweyr, worth it to come back now and what version to get?

I used to play a lot but then quit by Elsweyr. Now I want to get back casually and if im hooked again I might go deep again. Currently there are like 4 expansions im missing and Im only finding the Gold Road upgrade meaning I dont get the other 3. There is the Gold Road collection but also includes the bas game and some expansions I already own. Is there a way around that or do I have to buy the full game again to get all the expansions?

Also is it gonna be tough to get back into the game after all Ive missed or is it easy to get back into the game?

Just log in and see after that if you wanna buy some missing stuff from the store. the expansions are in the crown store anyways.

whatever you do - wait out todays announcement for the upcoming content and monetisation scheme to make an informed purchase decision

    ---

if you plan to sub ESO+ you don´t need the other chapters since they are included in the sub and gold road should be in the sub too after the launch of the new content (maybe today, but at least its announced today). at least it was like that in the previous years that a chapter moved into ESO+ availability when the new one was launched. Since we dont have chapters any more all is a bit unclear.

If you plan not to sub, collection is probably the best way to upgrade your game since it will most likely be cheaper than buying the missing chapters even though base game and chapters you already have are included. Golden Road collection might get heavy discounts since its soon "old content".

The full expansions are included in the Sub now? Before it was just the smaller DLCs. Guess I will wait today before I buy anything and see.

A single Chapter is 3500 crowns. It is 21 EUR for the 3000k crown pack. That is the whole price difference between Golden road only (40 EUR) and the Collection including all Chapters (60 EUR).

I would just purchase the Gold Road collection, personally.

Yes, you are technically paying for Chapters that you already own, but the additional $20 gets you four chapters (Greymoor, Blackwood, HIgh Isle, Necrom) at $5 each.

That will give you quite a few hours of stuff to do.

Outside of a few gear and skill details, the game play has not changed that much, in my opinion. You might end up trying Arcanist (Necrom) and that may open some different play styles for you. The class plays a little differently from the others.

HI. Welcome back. Coming back is never easy, but it is good that you try!

I'll only list the high notes compared to Elsweyr (without commentary):
    • The Champion point system has changed it is a lot easier to get them and spending them is easier, too.
    • We have super powerful one-set-piece items called mythics now. Monster sets aren't that relevant anymore.
    • You can play a card game called Tales of Tribute.
    • We have companions for all Solo and Overland content.
    • There is a new class now, the Arcanist.
    • And we can create our own abilities now, with Scribing.
    • We have had a Hybridisation of skills, sets and the damage formula.
    • Achievements are now account wide.
    • And the economy crashed! Everything is much cheaper to buy now. Which can be a good thing for a return player.

My My. That is a lot ... :D

I fear you'll also have to reevaluate all your characters, because there have been a lot of changes over the years in terms of combat balance. It would be best to start finding a guild and asking on discords, or the forum, with a specific palystyle in mind. And by giving a lot of information on what you have and what you want to do.

In terms of what to buy I can say only that buying depends on the price. If a bundle is cheaper than buying all expansions stand alone, then do it. You can also wait until the expensions are available with a big discount. But buying all of them on budget might take a year or so.

Anyway, have fun, glad you're back!

Thnx for the summary. Seems a bit intimidating to get back now I had like stamina and Magic of every class maxed out then, now they will be trash :D I will play very casually and slowly and see if I can get back into the high level game again. Will probably start an Arcanist and just enjoy the game slowly

I agree. Thats probably the best way.
Just don't think your characters are garbage now. If they were maxed out and you have a bunch of skill points to spend, you'll be alright.

There are good craftable and overland sets, that will get you a long way and are easy to acquire. Order's Wrath, for example, is good on any class. And some of the old Trial sets are still relevant.

In case you missed it, ESO is switching to a Seasons format that we'll find out later today what that will entail, but should mean smaller more regular content drops that take place/affect already existing zones instead of one expansion a year adding a new zone, or so ZoS has said. So I guess getting ESO+ would give you access to every expansion, hah.

Still, there's no knowledge as to what sort of things we can expect from these "seasons" and how we even access them, if it's paid or limited or what, so I'd say it's best to waot until the reveal stream tonight to see what ZoS has planned for ESO and the Seasons.

Before today's live stream I wouldn't have recommended ESO to anyone anymore. Now, after the live stream, I'd say avoid ESO like the plague. It's in a downward spiral that appears to have no end in sight. The cost to keep playing ESO just went through the roof. We can buy 3-5 other games for the same price point now.
