Ranger Class build help.

I am wanting to make a ranger like build with maybe some stealth aspects as well. I usually play some type of gun/bow class in any mmo i play. I do the same for every Tes game i play. If anyone has an recommended routes to take. I choose nightblade as my class, but not even sure if this was the right class to choose for bows. I did however choose woodelf from previous experience. Any input would be most appreciated.

No class has a bow spec. Instead the bow is a weapon spec and the class has nothing to do with it. For example my main is a templar, however I use a bow and dual-wield. I find I am fine most of the time. Hope this helps.

I took Nightblade for my build. But I am now finding that using a Bow as a NB will not work because just about all the NB skills require a Melee weapon in the tool tip.

    I may have to re-roll.

Have you look at all of the NB skills, or just the assassination tree?

The NB has some amazing skills that compliment the bow:

    mark target (assassination)
    shadow cloak (shadow)
strife, agony, cripple and siphoning strikes (siphoning)

You also have consuming darkness (shadow) that is a good evasive skill.

It would be interesting to know what level you got to (along with your build) that made you come to this conclusion.

I know people are entitled to their own opinion, but your post is completely untrue.

Mark Target is nice, but it requires level 30 in the Assassination skill line. That a long way to go for only 1 skill. What would you level it with while using a bow?

Strife looks great on paper but in use it doesn't do very much.

Agony is another that looks great but it is rare that it will work since other people in your group will break the effect. 1 point of dmg will break that effect.

Cripple. If you were a melee fighter this would be awesome. It lets you move away quickly. As an Archer though you shouldn't be in melee range.

Siphon is a decent skill. Works nice to regen Mag / Stam.

Nightblade is more of an up close, melee fighter. At least most of the skills reflect that. I am thinking another class would compliment a bow / ranged character much better. Perhaps Templar, and you get the benefit of healing as a bonus.

Since you've already chosen Nightblade, unless you want to re-roll, you can certainly MAKE it work. True, many of the abilities are melee-only but some of them can be morphed to apply at range, and even those that are melee range might have a use --- you may not always be ABLE to keep foes at range, after all.

That said, if you use Strife or some other ranged Nightblade attack, and the nightblade invis cloak, that only leaves three archery skills to choose. If you throw in a variable slot for special-case skills like soul trap or Silver Bolts (fighter's guild crossbow) then you're down to two "regular" bow attacks. So I wouldn't worry overmuch about what your CLASS brings to the game, especially if the bow is your primary focus.

No class is quite right for ranger (in my opinion), Templar is a sort of paladin with a bit of warmage thrown in, sorceror is a mage, but can use weapons, nightblade is an assassin type, and Dragonknight is a warmage/warrior hybrid.
Please note I have tried all the classes, and this is just my opinion based on early levels

The best option is probably the templar, he can't stealth, but none of his abilities appear to be weapon related, so you can use your bow, whack the enemies until they get close, and finish them off with radiant spear. But probably won't feal like a ranger.

I don't know if your looking for more of a skill set or a kind of style or theme for your ranger.

Sorc is definitely a great combo with the bow to make a ranger skill set. Sorc has pets, weapon damage buffs, mobility, cc, a ranged execute, and with medium armor stealth is just fine.

Where are you getting the idea that you need to have a melee weapon equipped for NB class skills?
They may be melee range, but you don't need a melee weapon to use them.
Assassins blade actually has a morph that will make it ranged and I know for a fact surprise attack works with a bow in hand, since I open every single fight with it.

As suggested above sorc may be more to your liking. As a NB ranger you're gonna have to mix it up with some melee.

Nb with bow can completely destroy if you use duel weild on your second bar with finishers and buffs
