Maintenance for the week of February 16:
• ESO Store and Account System for maintenance – February 19, 9:00AM EST (14:00 UTC) - 6:00PM EST (23:00 UTC)

What did you do to my account?

Finklenut
Finklenut
i had early access on Tuesday i logged in, from this machine, played for two hours until you shut down the server, ever since then this machine will not log in, I can log in from my sons laptop in this house to my account. I worked with your customer service who took me through the standard rigmarole . to date I have:
changed PW *2
ran anti malware result negative
ran anti virus result negative
stopped all services using MSconfig
opened router ports
re-installed entire game

Now I would like to point out that on Tuesday between 3-5pm when I logged in I had done none of this, the 'only' difference between now and then is your patching, now I know my account isn't banned because I can log onto it via another machine, using the shared broad band, so it is 100% not my router or settings associated with it
my conclusion is that you somehow have either banned the specific IP of this machine, or banned my MAC address.. because I will say again, the game worked on this very machine that it will not work on anymore until you turned of the servers on Tuesday 5pm ish

I am also awaiting contact from the 'higher up team' your customer service person said he had transferred me to. That was 36 hours ago...

I would like some answer's I paid my monies, you can at least provide a service..

It's pretty unlikely they banned your machine using either method, now, isn't it?

Also, since you appear not to know how routers work, Zenimax's server sees only your ROUTER'S IP and MAC, it doesn't see your PC's MAC and IP (that's the whole point of a NAT-based router which yours will be) so your assertion of a 'ban' is a technical fallacy.

Aggravating though you may find it, they ARE providing a service to hep you troubleshoot a problem, just that there are obviously many people having problems that they're also dealing with.

I had a similar problem. I couldn't log in from my laptop but my desktop was fine. The launcher asked me to verify my account. I pass code was sent to my email. After I put the code in I was good to go. Hope this helps.

@finklenut have you also posted this issue in the Technical Support forum? This is sounding like it would fall under that category a little more, and might get a faster response from the powers that be. Just a suggestion!

Like @SlickReed wrote, did you even get an email to try using a code for verifying the computer? I don't recall you mentioning that.

Also, why are you jumping all over @KerinKor ? They may have phrased their post in a stagnant manner, but they were attempting to give some other reasoning and troubleshooting information to help you out in narrowing down the real issue.

Nobody can see your PC's or Router's MAC Addresses. You have to be on the same network segment to see the MAC address. SO, your router uses tour PC's MAC address to reach it's IP, the upstream ISP router uses your router's MAC address to get to your PC's IP and so on up the chain until you reach Zenimax's hosting facility

Their router sees your PC's IP, but it's tied to their ISP's router's MAC address. (assuming you are using a routable IP, but it's basically the same for a NAT)

They cannot ban your specific computer. Your computers 192.X.X.X IP Address is Hidden. So it the MAC Address. As stated by another they only see the IP of your Router, which is the IP your ISP gives you (and is usually dynamic). If they ban that IP none of your computers would be able to connect while under that IP. Besides, MMOs do not ban per IP, they ban accounts. They may ban all accounts that used a specific IP, but they dont just ban an IP. They do however ban IP ranges, such as banning all China IPs. But that is for other reasons, such as trying to remove gold sellers or XX region is not allowed to play the game.

Most likely there is some sort of issue with your computer. Try uninstalling/re-installing your network card drivers. Also try uninstalling the game (reboot after uninstall), run a cleaning utility such as CCleaner or Advance System Care (Run the Registry Cleaner/Fix Portions) then reboot again. Then re-install the game.

well I would say that a verification code to allow a particular machine to have access points to mac address, unless there is some other way of this verification taking place, I don't claim to be knowledgeable in these matters at all but from a logical standpoint verification of a machine requires a unique ID for said machine, this is usually the mac address of the network transfer method whether it be wired or wireless

@Finklenut Let's forget about the whole router, MAC and other addresses... did you get a validation email for your PC or not?

Not trying to get mean or anything, just trying to help narrow the issue a little.

    @taergenoI have re-installed the game bleach bit/cc cleaner/malware/anti viri
done everything I can think of,

The one thing that sticks in my craw is that I logged on from this machine for 2hrs on tuesday before server maintenance, and since then have received the 201 error.... who can explain why after no changes in settings or hardware or software or my router that my machine is now unable to log in.. cause I can't

couldn't log in after patch, no log in verification message from the launcher but I got an email asking to verify the ip address and after that it was fine. Just wanted to let you know you may not be getting the notification from the launcher about the IP address access.

Found this in regards to error 201:

    201 – Authentication Failed

Players are receiving this message because either they aren’t using the correct username to log in, or because their username contains a special character. Please try requesting your user name from the login screen.

Might try that? Or what you can do, to try to force a verification email is call your ISP and ask them to re-new/re-issue you a new Dynamic IP. You will need to probably turn off your router for a bit, to get a new one. Or you may be able to just hit a re-new lease option to get a new IP. I know my router, if I want a new IP I have to turn it off for a few hours or more, then turn it back on and it will pull a new one 'sometimes'.

I really don't think it's a router problem, I'm able to log in from home on a different machine with my account and son's, but I cannot log in to either on my machine..

It's machine specific, which makes me think verification is messed up somehow... but how do they verify a machine...iunno and can't find any answers

It may be storing something on your computer saying its verified. Try searching for any locations that may hold ESO data on your computer. Even uninstalling there are sometimes hidden folders in APPDATA or other odd locations that keep files related to games/apps you uninstall. It may be keeping something there.

Might be a dumb question, and you may have done this, but have you tried disabling the windows firewall?
  • Finklenut

yeah i did's, and the routers, and commodo, stopped all services using msconfig, beat my head against the wall, the beautiful irony is a made a new machine last week, 8-core, 8gb 1866 ram, R7 260x, nice new monitor.. runs star wars like a dream, and for 2 hours ran ESO with in your face settings... they took servers offline on tues and had 201 error ever since.. I've altered nothing..

    got me stumped

Did you try restarting in safe more with networking and try logging in again? It will look terrible but this is just a troubleshooting to see if it's one of your services stopping things from working. I also read a thread about someone stopping commodo put the computer into a sandbox mode and he had to disable that check mark as well

Hey I had same problem, the solution was simple - manual patching of game from launcher menu - found a problem and downloaded latest patch... dont know why launcher didnt it automaticaly, but it happened. Maybe because I copied the game files to my machine from another computer in the first time. Try comparing exact version numbers from login screen...

It appears... though i can't confirm that because the servers are down, but I'm not getting 201 error anymore, I'm getting what everyone else is... question is how did it get fixed

So Auric I'm thinking.. commodo.. hmmm...even when I stopped services commodo is maybe still running...so i sandboxed the client and hey presto.. im not a 201 anymore I'm a 103 error but vitally I've connect with the servers for the first time in 2 and 1/2 days so to prove it I try without sandbox and I'm 201 error again with no outgoing, so commodo is bulldozed from my system, I try logging in after restart and low and behold I'm a "103 error" 'you ain't got your new key yet ***' wonderful

    Auric I love you

I owe you some nice armour..message meh

well after I've finished work tomorrow I'll know for certain

What I take from this is that Commodo can never again taint my system
    NEVER!

sorry to all the helpers who tried to help when I did nothing but *** at most

    peace and love
