Does ESO need a Gold Sink? PCNA

What comes to my mind is a goldsink via mount training.
Make it unlimited per day, rather then just 1 lesson, but with a ramping cost for each stat, every lesson after the first would double in cost.

this would give an option for older players with more Gold while not impacting newer players negativly. this would also be a goldsink which is optional, but highly used since its a QoL improvement.

housing seems to already be a gold sink due to all the houses and furnishings we can buy with gold.

some achievement and luxury furniture costs 100k+
and 4 houses cost nearly 4 million gold.

Plus nearly every year we get a 1 million gold house like Water's Edge and Emissary's Enclave.
this year probably Rosethorn Hall in Skingrad.

Like for instance. If there was a Rare Skin Vendor. You could buy 50-250 million Gold Skins or Mounts (Bound). That would be an Effective Gold Sink but then Crown Store would Suffer. So, it would have to be something else. But I wish we had something like that.

That would cost way too much, on console at least.
The gold problem is much more prevalent on pc

I would much rather PLAY the game, instead of having to find ways to make gold so I can afford expensive things. As it is, it costs a small fortune to gold out your gear, and with so many sets and new ones being added, it becomes a pain for players who actively upgrade their gear. I've been playing ESO for YEARS, and I probably only have 800K sitting in my bank.

AN NPC Vendor that sold the crown store cosmetics would be the gold sink. Problem is, ZOS would rather empty people's actual wallets. To be fair, we as players continue to enable that system by spending ungodly amounts of money on it, so here we are.

like if monster shoulder boxes cost gold instead of keys, i would 100% buy them to finish my collection, same goes for any of the cyro gear boxes or IC gear boxes, or even infinite archive gear boxes

It's not exactly monster shoulder boxes, but The Golden vendor that shows up on weekends regularly sells monster shoulder pieces for gold.

What I would do as a gold sink is just increase the trader listing fees dynamically (i.e. when the gold supply in game goes up, so do the fees).

I would also replace the current guild trader system with a global auction house (with fees related to item sale prices) to reduce the divide between the "haves" (i.e. members of trading guild that regularly get big city traders, and who therefore get rich off of the current system) and the "have nots" (everyone else, who goes broke off of the current system), but that's more of a QoL improvement than an inflation remedy.

I think your proposal on an auction house would actually have an impact in reducing inflation, for reasons I mentioned above. The present trading system excludes players from selling who won't join guilds. But it doesn't exclude players from *buying* stuff. And they do buy stuff. Excluding those players from selling just means they get the money to buy stuff from the game itself instead of from selling things, by changing their play style to create more gold eg from dungeon farming, doing huge numbers of crafting writs, etc. That is inflationary. It is behaviour that creates money from nothing without any matching change in economic "output".

That said, personally I'd be happy with a compromise using NPC traders doing the same job as guild traders without requiring guild membership, but with higher taxes. A lot of people seem to like the decentralised nature of the trading system and I wouldn't mind seeing a compromise that preserves that while getting rid of the player-controlled guild gate to being able to sell.

Also as mentioned above, you can always spend your money on the Golden vendor in Cyrodiil to skip the grind for gold jewelery and monster sets.

Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

like if monster shoulder boxes cost gold instead of keys, i would 100% buy them to finish my collection, same goes for any of the cyro gear boxes or IC gear boxes, or even infinite archive gear boxes

It's not exactly monster shoulder boxes, but The Golden vendor that shows up on weekends regularly sells monster shoulder pieces for gold.

What I would do as a gold sink is just increase the trader listing fees dynamically (i.e. when the gold supply in game goes up, so do the fees).

I would also replace the current guild trader system with a global auction house (with fees related to item sale prices) to reduce the divide between the "haves" (i.e. members of trading guild that regularly get big city traders, and who therefore get rich off of the current system) and the "have nots" (everyone else, who goes broke off of the current system), but that's more of a QoL improvement than an inflation remedy.

its only 2 random offerings per week, and because of the collection system you would only need to buy anything you didnt have collected (i have bought stuff from the gold vendor i think once in the past 4-6 months because its just never had anything i needed anymore, and i usually use AP to buy stuff from there instead of gold)

not to mention the whitestrake events entirely remove monster sets from the gold vendor for 2 solid weeks

been waiting years now for illambris shoulders to show up there (as well as a few others)

at this point i would rather waste my gold on buying the shoulder boxes from the undaunted vendor (i would only use undaunted keys if the boxes were curated)

the listing fees for items are already a % of the amount your listing the item for, if you talk about scaling that relative to the total amount of gold in the game, if that got too high it would destroy the economy (people would stop selling on guild stores and zone chat would become WTS spam)

and a global auction house system would make it worse for players, one reason is in all likelyhood prices would actually greatly increase on a number of items, flippers would make it severely worse by having an easier time cornering the market on some item, if the prices of items go up, so would the fee to list (due to it being a % of listing amount), making it harder for poor players to list anything of real value unless they wanted to just undercut the market and lose out on the potential gold by selling it for 1/4 of the avg price

theres plenty of ways to add a gold sink without changing the existing trader system

I think ZOS needs to chill with the gold printing a bit, especially on daily login rewards. It would be a lot easier on the economy than adding more gold sinks to a game that already has many.

    Some helpful changes could be:

-Print more tradable "stuff" for login rewards instead of gold (Gold Mats, Maybe some tradable consumables, Survey Maps, etc).
-Nerf the gold received for writ turn in a bit
-Increase the rarity of high value vendor junk

Lots of people in this thread having 0 clue what a gold sink is.

Buying something expensive from another player on a guild trader is NOT a gold sink. A gold sink removes gold from the economy. Sure, renting out a trader does this, but the prices are set by the richest players at auction, so it isn't a very effective one. PC NA is in dire need of a new one - inflation is crazy. Over the past 2 years, prices of nearly everything have doubled, with no sign of slowing down.

Housing used to be a gold sink when it was introduced. I remember that it took me a while to buy all the houses available. Nowadays there's only one house per year that can be bought for gold (inn rooms don't count).

I suppose nowadays players passively accumulating gold with not much to spend it on have become gold sinks themselves...

But it is a sink. A tax based sink.

Because the sink is % based, the higher the value of the listing and sale price the more gold is removed. That's an effective sink.Compound this by the pure volume of sales on the server, and its pulling a massive amount of gold out of the system overall.

    Yes

Guess a niceway to sinkgold should be a new "bank" for the furnishing like a "Warehouse" so we don't have to use other houses as gargabe depots

We solve two problems the managing of these furnishings and Gold

it could be up to 1000 spaces so there's a lot of gold we can use there, it's not necesary to bet a new npc just another opcion on your currents bankers and also Zos CAN get some money selling these upgrades n the crown store too.

Too we could get a gambling like GW2 has

    its a pretty negligible amount

the listing fee is 1% of the listing price, so a 1 mil gold listing is only removing 10k gold as the fee

the tax after a sale occurs is 7%, but only half of that is a sink, the other half goes into the guild bank

1% is lost in the listing fee (not included in the amount the item is selling for) and another 3.5% is lost on the actual sale

1 mil gold listing removes 10k (listing fee) + 35k (sales tax) as a sink

if either the listing fee or the tax was increased though, people would just stop using the guild stores to list stuff and we would be dealing with WTS spam in zone chat

Transactions between players on the guild trader is actually also a gold sink.

Not really. An actual "gold sink" removes gold from the game. Transactions between players just moves gold around. The only "gold sinc" involved in trading is guild bids for traders.

Transactions between players through a guild trader is a gold sink, and removes gold from the game.

    Barely.
It'll remove 1% for the listing fee, and then a following 3.5%.

    That's negligible.

The gold sink is the guild trader system.

Which is a bad one, many players simply don't interact with that system outside of selling items on a trader.

buying and selling stuff is expensive as it is

Yes, because of gold inflation due to a lack of gold sinks...

I've made at least a billion mainly off of writs alone.

housing seems to already be a gold sink due to all the houses and furnishings we can buy with gold.

some achievement and luxury furniture costs 100k+
and 4 houses cost nearly 4 million gold.

Plus nearly every year we get a 1 million gold house like Water's Edge and Emissary's Enclave.
this year probably Rosethorn Hall in Skingrad.

All one time purchases which are pretty small.
I can make enough gold in a week off of writs and selling the rewards to buy all of those houses.
Which I have done since I own every house ever sold.

Just needs more things that you would actually like to buy from NPC merchants with gold.

Add something like a merchant that sells a dozen or so randomly selected older things from the crown store each month for a large chunk of gold per item.
