The future of ESO - Flight

Games have seen a renaissance in the last 10 years in terms of “traversal.” Batman Arkham series, Spider-Man 2, and even World of Warcraft. I think it’s time for ESO to take to the skies and deliver flying mounts, capable of platforming on the Z axis, while at the same time having just a plethora of falling damage deaths. This could go in line with personal traversal, in the same vein as Assassin’s Creed, where you no longer are forced around the endless mountain ridge of Grahtwood or Rivenspire, but can instead climb your way up. Secret caves, monsters waiting to toss you off, jumping platforming puzzles, etc. Platforming has been something most games since their inception have used, so why not ESO? Make the jumps look more dynamic and capable of grabbing on to a ledge (heaven forbid pulling yourself up for once).

It’s time to take what’s been largely an X-Y game and introduce the coveted Z to that axis of engagement for the 10th anniversary or beyond.

Edit: It seems flight may be an impossibility on ESO based on the comments. But perhaps at least platforming, enhanced traversal, grabbing ledges. As it is now it just feels so low speed high drag getting around the maps. Sorta outdated.

I really like and support the idea of being able to fly in the game.
First they need to add in more dynamic and realistic animations/physics to everything first including hair, clothes, spells, etc. Such as wind animations and fluid/aerodynamic physics. It is not impossible to add these in ESO because many other online games including guild wars 2, world of warcraft, and roblox already has them. It's requires a few modifications to the animation code.

Mounts that can fly would be awesome because it will enable more abilities to explore the world and look cool while doing so. I would love to ride a color shifting dragon mount in eso.

In world of warcraft there is this movement key bind that enables flying mounts to do acrobatic tricks in the air, such as doing loops and flips.

Speaking with improvements and additions to the z axis... there should also be more dynamic acrobatic animations along with abilities. Like a variety of flips, double jumping, floating above ground, and off the ground channeled abilities.

Also last thing to add on to this that there should be a gliding system that enables long distance slow fall and the ability to change the glider type. The glider types can be different types of wings and capes that are back items on characters. It's a cosmetic thing.

If not flight, then perhaps at least the ability to traverse terrain more effectively? Grabbing hold of ledges and jumping mechanics? Would make dungeons more engaging with platforming. Kinda like how the new DLC dungeons have integrated sneak and little roller mice into them. Jumping mechanics i don’t think is a bridge too far (no pun intended…wait, yes it was).
No flying! And... wait, THAT'S brilliant! I'd actually prefer grapple hooks, sliding, gliding, ledges, etc.

For the love of... Hermie / Meridia / Daddy Dagon, Molag BALLS, no flying, but I would LOVE to be able to have a skill tree dedicated to such features like climbing, scaling walls, grapple hooks, finding some tresure, moving faster, etc.

Considering that as you play, you collect *** ton of skill points, this would be a completely new mechanics, AND it would help revive the old content.

    @SmellyUnlimited - chapeau bas!
    My wishlist for ESO
    I.Skills:
    >>weapons: Polearms, Unarmed, Crossbow

    >>Sorc's Twilight - perched animation

    >>a skill line - a guild having this - to enable us to increase % gold gain for donating Ornate gear (another gold sink in order to gain more pennies - but over time it would pay off)

    II.Overland Mechanics
    >>tree climing in Grahtwood / Malabal Tor / Greenshade, etc. (with tall trees)

    >>rock climbing in Glenumbra / Rivenspire / Stonefalls, etc. (with tall peaks)

    >>new skill lines - Adventure (enable climbing, increase flora and fauna harvesting chances)

    III.CP 2.0
    >>Craft Tree development

    III.Replayable content in overland
    >>pocket rifts to Oblivion - eg. to Vaermina's in Stormhaven, Boethiah's in Deshaan, Hircine's in the Rift OR in Bankgorai, etc. to get Daedric Sets relevant to the Prince, something like Oblivion rifts in Blackwood / the Deadlands

    IV.Geography
    >>Pyandonea - we had some quests WITH Maormer (Summerset, High Isle) - maybe we could meet them there? Poke poke, nudge nudge, wink wink, eh ZOS?

    V.Other
(the ideas are also inspired by other Forum Users' posts)
    >>pet battles! We collect SO MANY pets, and yet there are just a cosmetic. What a HUGE potential lies within those tiny beats!

    >>ASOC - a new server in Asia and Oceania. If people have a bad ping there, it would be great if they had a server reaching their places more easily. And hey, it would make THREE servers, not two.

    >>possibility to dye barding

    >>display the dialogue options so that we can see which answer the NPC is reacting to

    >>a way to make Overland more challenging - for those who want

Not interested in flying - never have missed it since I left WoW a decade ago. As for dungeon mechs like suggested, go for it. I don't care about stuff like that, and I don't care about dungeons so have at it. I might care about it if they couldn't implement it any better than is already in the game (Moonlit Cove for instance where using the grapple was - um.... difficult if you couldn't tell the exact spot you needed to aim for) and they added it all over the place.

I just don't have much use for gimmicks.

    Flying destroys games overall.

It works very well in 'Star Wars: The Old Republic.'
But then, that game is designed for it.

This one is not. So no matter how much anyone wants it, it cannot happen.

I’d rather they add mounted combat. The zones were not designed for flight and the Hero engine sucks at streaming stuff in as it is which is why they have fog.

I would love to see flight return in Elder Scrolls 6, but I suspect it would be too much work for the reward in ESO. For ESO I’d rather they implemented a water walk perk/spell/skill/whatever so my mount doesn’t dissolve every time it gets more than fetlock deep in water.

It would also I think highlight how small the zones actually are if you could quickly fly around. As it is you can run across most zones on foot within a few minutes at most if you don't stop to pick flowers or loot things along the way.

Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
      • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
      • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

Well, there could be if you think about it. Having flying mounts could mean more exploring and bigger maps. Like GW2 - vertical maps, you would need to be able to fly up to get to areas that you could then explore, thus making the maps bigger in that sense. Right now, some of the maps are very tiny (looking at you Eastmarch).

But that was a waste of time typing all that, it just won't/can't happen in this game.

      Flying = verticality...

      Verticality leads to jumping...

      Jumping leads to jumping puzzles...

Jumping puzzles leads to frustration and, shortly afterwards, me leaving...

If I wanted to have a vertical experience, there are MANY others games for that.

I vote no, as there are far too many horizontal bugs now without the added dimension to make things worse.

I think part of the issue is that ESO is heavily instanced, including zones. World of Warcraft does not instance all the sub zones in a continent. You can fly from the top of Mount Hyjal all the way down to Taneris and never hit a load screen.

ESO would have a load screen between each zone on top of the fact that the zones are not stitched together. The amount of work it would take to create one seamless map along with the server architecture able to sustain that kind of load would be for all intents and purposes, impossible.

I like the idea of flying. I'd love to see some steampunkish dwemer flying machines but I don't think it's in the realm of possibility for this game.

That was no excuse for ff14 tough

I'd personally love to see flying implemented in game, especially if we could have a form of flying that was not only mounts, but included gliders/wings as well.

I'd really love a pair of "Meridia's Wings" or "Wraith of Crow" wings that could actually be equipped to my characters back and allow for flight or gliding.

I'd also love to see actual parkour implemented, Assassins Creed style.

Not the worst idea but not feasible for this game.

To begin with, 'flying' requires the game to quickly load probably multiple land sectors in succession. In other words, like with another game, I created a mod where you could fly and it created a notable amount of crashes and lag due to the game engine having to load all these sectors with the containers and details therein.

      No bueno for ESO.

Please no. Someone will figure out a way to exploit something like flight. Plus, the animation model doesn't presently exist and the devs can't just reskin something already in the game. They'd actually have to create something new.
