Overland combat fun now: naked under costume

Did the latest maintenance or patch make toons weaker when playing naked, only level 1 “white” weapons and totally without any CP, without any skills passive buffs?
If so, I love it
My toon and Isobel died a lot when fighting a bear mini-boss in Stonefalls. Nice! Because it means that I have to pay attention to mini-boss fights instead of just mindlessly sleepwalking through combat. Playing vampire stage 4 helps too. Just give your companion a white weapon, no armor.
Maybe the devs have not (recently) changed anything, perhaps it’s simply me having just returned to the game and not yet have had any mini-boss fights until today, so that it was only now I discovered that mini-boss fights can be a bit challenging if you totally handicap yourself.
More fun if “barebone” toons are made even weaker, so that one can adjust or finetune their powerfulness by adding CP.
