Maintenance for the week of June 23:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – June 23

Things that annoy me as a PvPer. (Lag is not one of them...)

Remove Pull Sets, I have no control over my character. The game is playing itself and I have a front row seat.
Remove Guards being able to cast abilities in pvp getting stunned and negated every 3 seconds its so obnoxious.
Siege should NOT do damage to players. The UNIQUE effect is more than enough.
Healing Stacking. (of the same Heal Over Time)
Players moving faster than Tom Cruise in Top Gun.
:)))))))

I'll say though one great thing that has been experimented with is conditions of procs such as rallying cry or crypt cannon. Where the buffs provide are diminished depending on group size.

I have way to many hours on this game 27k to be exact. 99% of it has been in Cyrodiil (Dec. 2024)
Currently have 15 Grand Overlords and like to role play as a stealthy assassin.

Pull sets - Dodge roll or block. You have control.

Guards - You're a PvP'r, just kill them in 2 seconds like everyone else.

Siege - Lobbing balls of blue fire or pots of flaming oil shouldn't hurt players? Erm...

Fast moving players - Speedy troops, be it skirmish or calvary are part of many battles.

Cyrodil in general may annoy you due to its open Siege warfare nature. Try Battlegrounds.

Battlegrounds is just as obnoxious lol

Apart from deathmatch, every other game mode is infested with 60k health/resistance capped troll tanks who can't die. They have trouble dying in Cyro against 12+ players so a measly 4 to 6 is nothing. I see this all the time in my dailies. These tanks stand by themselves at a flag and no one can kill them, and that team always is 200+ points above the other 2 teams. They can last an ungodly amount of time in chaosball as well

Pvp in general isn't really about skill, but cheese. You have maybe..a few dozen truly skilled players which are usually people like Deltia, Malcolm, Minotaur, Skinnycheeks, etc. and everyone else copies their exact builds down to what kind of freckles they had on character creator

I don't mean to sound like I'm bragging or a narcissist, but I consider myself relatively skilled. I get killed often, but I also kill very often. I take advice but don't copy anyone's builds and I have pretty crappy sets that no one uses (new moon acolyte, twice born star. All gear gold divines). Yet I still kill people left and right who wear meta sets, apart from unkillable troll streak tanks

so you telling me that while you are fighting with some people, someone use RoA and you are able to costantly avoid it.
    you must be very good

RoA is the cheesy crutch used by all premades in Cyro, it's so boring.

This is all part of the game dude.

Pull/snare/crowd control is often a focus of some characters. Some characters are built to win with raw damage, others are built to win in a fight of attrition, and pulls/snares/entanglements are part of that, forcing you to break free and waste stamina on defensive measures. This shouldn't go anywhere IMO.

Guards not casting? Guards should remain strong. When the server is at a lower population, resources and keeps shouldn't just be pushovers for players to take. They also give an advantage to small groups carrying a healer when facing a larger group. The guards casting abilities evens the odds sometimes. At the very least, it forces you to think about how you go about capturing the objectives.

And seige should ABSOLUTELY damage players! Are you kidding me? That is kind of the point of siege. Some are built to hit walls and not players, and some are specifically designed to hit players and other siege. This gives small groups defending keeps a fighting chance against larger groups. In fact, a group of 12 that knows how to run siege well can hold a keep against 20+ if they know how to use siege right.

Heal stacking? That's just a thing, get over it. If it's not stacking heals, its stacking shields. Again- just part of the game. So long as heals and shields are part of the game, people are going to use them. There are counters to it. Learn to use them.

And players moving fast? You have to build for it. And in doing so, you give up something else. Swift traits ---> less offensive power. By going with a 5 piece armor set that grants speed bonuses, they're giving up something else.

Again, all of this is literally part of the game, and none of it should go anywhere IMO.

nobody would die if siege couldnt dmg players

npc guards are way too weak as it is and die way too quickly, they need at least double the health honestly, and would still get mowed over by most people

I don't see anything wrong with skills that pull people, like chains. The problem with balance and obnoxiousness comes with the free pull proc sets. (RoA, Dark Convergence) Pulling should take a skill slot and cost resources.

Proc pulls definitely have to be more balanced out, smaller aoe at the min. If performance in cyrodiil was better MAYBE it would be ok but as it is it will pull outside its range, become impossible to avoid for a lot of people because of endless lag, and because of the range of dc proc overlapping aoes of it makes it impossible to get out because of the sheer size of each aoe. One? Sure block then roll.. but moving while blocking is slow, there is no way to cover the distance of 2 or 3 while blocking especially with the sheer amount of lag. You are basically guaranteed to die unless you have absolutely insane health, resistance, and mitigation.

No doubt alot of that is frustrating, even after playing PvP for years. We had a short discussion similar to this in zone chat other day and you know a pull or a dark convergence or a snare or a fear or whatever once in a while is fine, a reasonable person wouldn't care much about that.

But its like this example from prime time when I was on last month, its was all me and the others around me could do to take 5 steps towards the siege ram without getting cc'd in some way. It was really annoying to see so many players using the exact same gimmicks it kind of felt a little abusive to be honest.

So CC immunity is your friend... except when its not but that's all we got.

On the subject of guards, I do think they need to be reworked/updated. My poor sorc’s toolkit has been gutted to oblivion over the years and yet that pesky mage guard can still knock me down with a frag. Also, their negates need to have an enemy ground aoe marker and should NOT look like a friendly.

    Oh boy....

Hard nope on the guards, they are really easy to avoid getting killed by if you know what you're doing. And it provides a neat distraction for defending players, especially in small scale. Taking advantage of a guard negate against players who don't know how to move away is fun.

Same with siege weapons, if they don't do damage against players then you're giving players defending keeps a gigantic nerf and would have to rebalance keep combat completely. I'd rather see them do more damage actually.

I do agree with heal stacking, maybe do something about shields in ball groups too while we're at it.

I play no cp mostly so pull sets aren't really a thing there, but when I did play cp the most annoying thing was breaking out of stuns wouldn't register, this is a bigger issue. Getting yoinked around is fine.

Movement speed is also fine where it is, you do give up something to get it. And if it's nerfed then scroll runs would be a slog, and harder. The scroll runs are well balanced as they are.

General Sorcalin bothers me. I wish she would cycle through scroll quests instead of insisting on what she wants. I think she has a deal worked out with Ghartok since that's the one she wants to foist on us.

Quite often we take a scroll from the farthest reaches of Cyro, run it all the way back and get nothing for it because no one can get the quest.

I would take her out myself if my weapons worked in base.

I'll be honest with you. I don't know how the "unkillable tanks" work. I brought my pve tank arcanist into battlegrounds and she's definitely killable. Yeah she has all points into health, but health still whittles away and block and shielding ends up using all your resources until you run out. Also can't heal fast enough, also uses up resources and arcanist doesn't have a burst heal.

Seems more like a countdown to die, but definitely doesn't prevent me from dying.

My high damage, high movement speed roll dodging PvP characters still do much better than my tank.

My PvP warden seems to do the best at PvP tanking even though she doesn't have anywhere near as much health as my real tank. And it feels like that's because of her superior healing with polar wind.
If you can't out heal the damage you're receiving it feels like you're just going to die eventually anyway.

I think you're making a big deal out of small potatoes. All of that can be countered.
FYI not all pulls are sets, my arcanist has that as a skill.

    Guards are easy.
Use race against time to get some crowd control immunity.
I prefer to use speed instead of tanking as a defence. Swift trait jewelry is awesome.

Heal stacking does sound like a problem though.

ive seen a near 60k hp arcanist tank in cyro before, usually the only way they die is when they start getting hit with siege from potentially multiple sources and they kill people using that shield ult that does the burst of dmg when it expires

i think the ones that cheese BGs are wardens, they get minor toughness, which further boosts the power of polar winds heal because its scaled on max hp

they can also use trees for extra healing and the shield to generate ult faster for more trees, and likely switch between a frost staff and 1h/shield to help sustain resources
