Feedback on Update 39

Thank you ZOS for all your hard work. I was impressed by the sheer volume of things that were addressed as I read through the patch notes. I'm particularly glad for the changes to Grim Focus and Fighters Guild/Summerset Geysers/Dragon Hunt dailies. That said, there are two things I have problems with, for your consideration.

The quest changes intended to prevent new players from feeling overwhelmed. That's all well and good, but if possible I'd like a way to toggle it being visible from the get-go for veteran players. Doing crafting certs on new toons is standard for me at this point, and I also like doing Main Quest missions one after the other without being hobbled by having to go do a zone quest before each one. (And trying to figure out which zone's quest is necessary might be a problem too.)

Second, the changes to the Desto staff passive Ancient Knowledge. This is a personal nitpick, but I love using AoEs and DoTs on basically all my toons, so I always appreciated the Lightning Staff AoE passive here. So I'm disappointed that it no longer has that, and furthermore has a buff to direct damage (which I tend not to use much of) and channeled (okay, I use more of these), while Flame Staff has the DoT bonus. I never use any Desto Staff except Lightning, due to my absolutely atrocious eyesight and aiming skills. Having the visible lightning streak showing when I'm trying to heavy attack a target is absolutely necessary for me to get off Heavy Attacks in the thick of combat, so switching from Lightning Staff isn't viable for me.

These are ultimately minor nitpicks I suppose, but I nonetheless wanted to offer my feedback. Thanks.

Put PTE back the way it was allowing us to leave instance while in combat. It's ridiculous that we're now trapped in an instance with our group even though everything is dead or the entire group is dead. The only option now is to disband and regroup but that's stupidly inconvenient and irritating especially if it causes you to redo the entire instance from the start.

would also love to see if they remove the PTE changes. it is getting really annoying already on the first day of the patch

    An award for everything!!
The theme like a junior grade school initiative, to award little Johnny for wiping his nose.
Thus, it is dumbing the game so much.

Your fixes on necro class skills state that you do not understand the class and why it's in such a bad spot or that you do not care. I did so much work on my necro that it makes just changing class tough. I wish I could have a class change token if you're not going to give us any love!

Couldn't this feature be used by a disgruntled group member? Simply aggro, "hahahaha" in chat, and log off.

I hate the changes to the HA build.

HA was the answer for so many of us with disabilties. I guess that didn't matter. :(

The 40 kill quest in PvP was hard enough.150 will be impossible.

Played for 30 minutes in numerous battles at BRK got a grand total of 5 kills, that I killed myself. No others were added from other players.

So how exactly does this work? DO you have to be grouped?

oh lmao if the kill 150 isnt just based on 'contributing' to the kill via a hit or debuff or whatever, but it must be killed by a group mate and doesnt count if its killed by someone outside your group.... bruh... thats so bad.

I don't think you can logoff while in combat... Not 100% sure, but I think so.

I love that the Northern and Southern Elsweyr Dragon dailies only require 1 dragon now, instead of 3. The same with the Summerset Geysers.

And I just learned that Fighter's Guild dailies now only require 1 dolmen.

Summerset geysers NPC, thanks for 3 geysers! Such a simple thing to get right.
Also I had 2 geysers in the slot but had to delete quest and do it again

Good thing that the lightning staff buffs all direct and channeled damage, not only single target.

This update is boring, there is zero reason for anyone to come back for it, especially when you have Guild Wars 2 releasing their new expansion in less then a hour. Zos, do NOT do a update likt this again, go back to the previous formula which WORKED please, this update will seirously hurt the longevity of this game if you contiunue to do this every year.

I used Firestaff because it buffed single target. Now i have to waste time, mats, and transmutes to swap to lightning on every toon with a build that used fire staff. Sheesh. Pointless churn.

    No?

We need them to spend more time on systems and less on shoveling new content into our mouths.

I am sorry to hear the appropriate people got their HA builds nerfed, but Direct Damage Sorcs like me got buffed, so this change wasn't generally negative. Plus they made the change half with practical theme in mind, which sits right with me. Shock hits instantly, Fire burns over time, it makes sense.

    Yes?

There is literally NOTHING new for players to come back to. Oh some bug fixes...yay.

This "update" has nothing for anyone to come back to, this is EXTREMEMLY bad for a MMO. MMOs live and die with NEW content, it is how they work.

I would question your use of the word "given" - it's in place of a DLC that should have been included in ESO+.

Also, as I said in another thread, I've seen no QoL upgrades, and no bug fixes. I'm sure there are some, but I have yet to experience any. I do not count new achievements as QoL or bug fixes, or indeed as anything "nice". More like "Here, have shiny. Now keep quiet".

Most of the complaints I've seen about U39 have nothing to do with being given bug fixes and are all about the lightning staff (loss of) splash effect.

    And the nerf to combustion.

The problem is that they didn't fix any of the major bugs that players have been complaining about. All we got were minor quest fixes and sledgehammer nerfs.

Actually, 2 of the 4 channeled damaging abilities are AOE.

Fatecarver and Jabs are both AoE. The only other 2 channeled damaging abilities (I think) are Soul Assault and the Bow Ultimate.
