do you actually get anything for defeating another player in pvp?

yes you can get quest from a board by spawn and turn it in after killing 20 for bonus stuff the quest is repeatable. Also stuff will be sent in the mail for you for doing stuff like killing other players.

You actually get very little exp from killing players, it's little because your average battle is about 200 players at least. That's 200xp if it's 1xp a kill. -

Bottom line is you get Alliance Points, or AP for killing other players. There are rewards for AP ranging from gold and equipment to XP and skill points as you gain PVP ranks. There are also PVP achievements.You need AP to buy siege equipment.
