Suggestion: optional third person mini view when playing first person

I play first person and have been soloing dungeons (I don't know why, specifically, but I find playing third person really quite awkward and I can't make it work for me).

One thing that's struck me is that it would be nice to have an optional mini display in the corner of the screen that allows me also to see the third person view, because otherwise there are instances where I can't see attacks coming / lose situational awareness. Obviously you wouldn't be able to control that view at the same time as playing everything else so maybe a top down position (or a preselectable viewpoint).

What would people think of this? Clearly it's a bit of a luxury and clients on less powerful systems might have problems, but it struck me as one possible way to keep the first person experience (which, to me, pretty much defines Elder Scrolls) while still being able to deal with dungeon mechanics.

I'll agree I've always liked first-person/close-up third-person when possible, but this game definitely encourages you to zoom all the way out for combat, especially dungeons and trials. The game has always had an issue with visual/audio feedback and clutter. That's why even top raiders who basically play the game looking like Diablo need addons to tell them when stuff is happening, because it's portrayed so poorly in-game.

That said, I don't know if a second view is really all that viable. To have a legit second camera, which is what it sounds like you mean, your computer/console would need to render every frame a second time, something I don't think any console is currently capable of at a reasonable framerate. Even for computers I'm not sure if even half the players would be able to use such a feature.

Assuming you're on PC, addons are probably your best bet here, so long as your not a purist like some of us. You can get alerts to pretty much any non-basic attack in the game, as well as timers and trackers for every part of your build if you so desire. That way you can focus on what's in front of you which, in first-person, feels like a lot more than at max camera distance.

They should add to k+m so that clicking on the scroll wheel goes in and out of first person; this could be easily implemented as it is already a functionality in the Gamepad UI (pressing D-pad down button goes in and out of first person). That would help players like you a lot and would be something they could easily code into the PC UI since the functionality already exists.

I'm all for options, so sure.

BUT playing in first person being more immersive and whatnot, is more like real life, and sadly you cant see whats behind you or around that corner all at once. Its a choice to play first person for those reasons, wouldn't having the benefits of third person also on screen, just sort of negate that feel.

And there is a first/third button, i use it all the time when i want to zoom in and get a look at something, cant that currently be assigned to mouse click? If not, then sure that's an easy add.

I choose to play first person because it to me looks better (I don't like Diablo-style diagonal above views) and I find it very, very difficult to control the game in third / see what's going on. Nothing to do with immersion in my case. But some of the dungeon mechanics have very clearly been designed with third person in mind. To me it would be the equivalent of having a rear view mirror when driving.
