Should the Pledge of Mara item have unlimited uses (restricted to once per character)?

Indoril_Daemion
1 - In a MMO people make multiple characters. Being a vibrant, changing experience, many times they shift between their main character for several reasons. Restricting people to make one character their main is unfeasible and counter to the premises of this game: choice, freedom and exploration/experimentation. PLAY THE WAY YOU LIKE, as was advertised.

2 - For many of the same reasons stated above, people delete characters. Maybe they didn't like their original class choice that much after a while (and a respec won't solve the problem). Maybe they did a mistake in creation they didn't realize till much later. Sometimes people in MMOs even delete their top leveled, top geared characters for their own particular reasons. It's not really anyone's business - the fact is: it happens.

3 - People paid good money for the Imperial Edition because of the extra content and bonuses. The pets are permanent and can be transferred between characters. The gear conversion ability is available to every character on the account. The imperial horse can be purchased with every character. Why is the Pledge of Mara a single use item that cannot be reacquired/purchased by any other means? None of the bonuses of the Imperial Edition were ever advertised as being one time/single use (and many people made the decision to buy the Imperial Edition based on what was advertised). In MMOs it is extremely common for things like that to be available for every single character of the account. There was no reason for people to think otherwise with this one (plus all that was already said on 1 and 2).

I made a poll to see how players feel about it and to show it to Zenimax Online. Unfortunately, forum restrictions prevented me from posting it under any appropriate category (I went with "community events", if any moderators can move it to a more appropriate section it would be most appreciated).

Here's the link to the poll, please go and vote!

It's a benefit that gives extra xp, extra xp for just a one time use is sensible, otherwise everyone would end up with xp boosts on all their characters

They could have made it a boring xp gain pot or whatever, they have gone the extra mile and made it fun.

I researched, read the faq etc and it was made pretty clear about its use.

I also don't like the wording of your poll, you could have made better options and could have convinced me to agree if you didn't do it in such a leading way.

I think a single marriage is fine but would be happy for a divorce to be allowed and once divorced any single one of your characters to be allowed to get married again, making it still only usable for one of your characters at any one time , maybe making you wait a few days after divorce before you can remarry so that people don't divorce and remarry every time they change to an alt.

Don't forget only one person needs the rings so if you and a friend use yours and you want to re roll, you can then use theirs.

Plus if you delete your main, chances are Zenimax will replace the items anyway as they are for those that deleted their characters due to the zoom bug, hence lots of people deleted their mains yesterday.

I know I read post after post on various forums and comments from zenimax on how the pre order bonuses worked before I pre ordered and while hindsight is a great thing, if I was buying a ce edition for a particular thing, I would make sure it did what I thought before doing so

But what if you delete your character? You won't have another chance since the Pledge of Mara is a consumable item and you won't get another for a second character.

It was not made it clear that it was for one character only when we bought the Imperial Edition.

The point is, there should be one for each character you make or, at least, you should receive another if you delete your previous character. ;(

This is very much true. It was not stated as such when I preordered the imperial edition.

I agree with everything you say. Its why I am way too relunctant to even use it or take it out of my mail.

@Ojustaboo You are, of course, entitled to your own opinion. I still think its pretty unfair, for much the same reason that Falmie pointed out (and I explained in the OP).

And while you can find the information if you dig for it, it is not readily available or properly advertised on their main site, nor the Product Description/Product FAQ pages (I looked them up before making the poll/post).

Edit: to anwer to your edited post. I could go there and change the wording of the "no" option, but I couldn't honestly come up with a solid argument in favour of that option. In all likelyhood, people who think the item is fine the way it is don't really care either way and wouldn't mind if it was changed. I guess I could just put it "No, the item works fine as it is".

I edited my post but still don't know if I made myself clear.

I do agree if you delete your main you should be able to use the rings on another character.

But I don't personally think it should be available to all of them. Otherwise in 9 months time you are in a guild with 4 new players, your alts can always level quicker with the one person you choose and the others are always left behind. That's why I prefer it as just a one time bonus for your main, again allowing you to occasionally swap it to a new character should you delete your main.

But most people, once at end cap will not delete even if they change their main.

Still not sure I'm getting my opinion across properly :(

If there was a 4th voting option allowing for it to be reused on deletion of the character its currently in use on, I would have voted for that instead of "no"

I also agree that the information should have been made much clearer on the website.

That would be really nice. I made a mistake with my current character, I know it was my fault but I want to make a new character. But I already used the item. ;(

To be honest, I don't really see a problem with everyone marrying their alts as well. I understand what you mean but, according to what I've read on the forums, you can already marry more than one person, as long as it's the other person using the item. But yours is a valid point! ;)

That would be so cool if you could marry your alt and have them as a NPC follower.

I think all the items should be sent to each new character you make.

Anything else is incredibly stingy in an MMO where we can have 8 characters.

OMG, no no, I didn't mean that, so sorry! xD
I mean to say marrying your alts with other people, sorry!

In any case, that is an item that's only available with the Imperial Edition. It won't really make that much of a difference if you can use it (once) with every character you create (there can be only eight ;) anyway).

Also, the bonus it gives is not that much of a deal to make it so restricted and it won't disrupt the game if it's abundant (and it wouldn't really be).

For me, personally, is all about the meaning and significance of the act. I play the game with my wife, and I want to be able to marry all my characters to all her characters. Plus it makes sense lore-wise.

Edit: I would be less frustrated by this if they made it so Imperial Edition owners could buy the item again to use it with a different character. But I still think it would be unfair, since I paid quite a bit of extra money for the Imperial Edition. And yes, there are other bonuses, but this one is quite a big deal for me (I don't play imperial, don't use the horse much and I couldn't care less for the mudcrab).

The 'one per account' for all the CE stuff is absolutely ridiculous in my opinion (and borderline false advertising since its not made even slightly apparent in any of the FAQs). So I not only support the OP 100% I think these asinine restrictions should be removed for all the bonuses.

I have never once stuck to a single main character, and I never will. And I simply won't play a game that forces me down that path. It's not as if the CE stuff is that great anyway, it pales in comparison to other CE's I've bought. I have no idea why they even allow multiple characters since they clearly don't want people playing any more than a single main.

I agree with this too and from zenimax's pre-order page
    http://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en/preorder

On the entire page does it say this item is one time use. NO it does not.

I believe zenimax owes an appology to the players about this misinformation if they do not plan to change the rings of mara to a per character item. i also believe they should have been more informative about this from the start.

I also believe they owe compensation to the players in some fashion that is replicably similar in value as the rings in a fashionable sense due to this misinformation

I only ask zenimax to be fair with this as we paid extra to have these features and if it was one time use we should have been informed on purchase
