Can we split the Destro Staff lines into separate skill lines and add an Arcane Staff?

This would provide a total of 4 Magical Damage weapons to choose from. I feel it would be better than having one staff with different skins and slightly different effects.

So the destruction staff is supposed to be ESOs version of the Destruction School of Magic, I don't think splitting it is in the cards. I wouldn't mind if they expanded it though along with the rest of the skill trees.

Respectfully disagree. There are literally different staves. Also, there are way more skills from other ES games that could fit the lines easily. And all could still fit in the destruction school of magic. Also, who is to say that new skills can’t be added. ES history is long and vast and so skills can end up forgotten or rediscovered from a lore standpoint.

If I could dps viably with frost magic like I can in every other Elder Scrolls game and it hadn't been forced into a tank niche and only thrown a tiny and insignificant bone with Blackwood's changes to Frost Reach and the Frostbite set which still doesn't make it viable, I might play more competitive content with my cryomancer.

If splitting the staves into 3 separate skill lines would make speccing into a particular element do viable damage with secondary roles like, idk, DOTs for Inferno, AOE for lightning, and Tanking for Ice, then I would be all for it, though I think an easier approach could be achieved where ancient knowledge isn't so slanted towards Inferno and the Flame/Shock/Frost Reach are turned into spammables rather than doubling as DOTs with an increased cost and murdering your sustain.

The most interesting thing would be disconnecting staves completely, and having a skill line for every school of magic, and a skill line for every weapon type. That would require a lot of work though, like eight years of work, to add and expand upon a game's skill lines.

I'm fine with three different flavors of destruction staff within one skill line. What is needed is to remove the tank aspects from destro staves and create a new staff just for tanking. Just like we have a separate staff just for healing. That would focus destro on, well, destruction.

Yea having 4 different staffs with different elemental type skills and skill lines would be great, would be very very interesting. I for one would love it. The way the destruction staff works now is very meh imo.

Sorry, I don't agree that this is what's needed. I don't want another staff!

Let's break it down: Melee fighters have 1H and 2H swords, 1H and 2H maces, 1H and 2H axes, daggers and bows. Magicka casters have... a staff. Splitting a staff into separate skill lines still means the only option is a staff. (And yes, I know magic users can use a melee weapon, but they don't give magicka return.) Instead, why not add a wand, scepter, orb and/or tome line for the different effects? Heck, I don't think one or two additional "weapon" types for magic users is asking too much!

    "DO NOT CHANGE OLD STUFF"

I want at least some thing that already normally work stay in this game.

You're right, but what I'm saying is that Zos has shoehorned in the Destruction School of Magic into Destruction Staff, just like they did the same with Restoration and Restoration Staff.

I don't disagree with you, I'm saying that Zos designed the Destruction Staff to embody the School of Magic, and are unlikely to change that.

I agree on the one hand...

on the other hand the schools of magic don't exist yet except in Shad Astral in Deshan - though why their influence is not more pronounced I cannot recall

and as for Winterhold College which was founded by Archmage Shalidor TESO seems to be ignoring it for now

    .
Papers kept in the College's library reportedly date back to the late Second Era.[2] Serana in the Dawnguard add-on corroborates this date, recalling that the College existed when she was entombed between the Reman and Septim empires.[3][UL 1] Additionally, documents from as early as 2E 373 suggest academic collaboration between the Reman Empire and the College.[4] However, Mirabelle Ervine states in her tour of the grounds that the College has been a "fixture" of Skyrim for thousands of years,[5] its inception being credited to Arch-Mage Shalidor in the First Era.[6]

I agree but for ZoS this actually might be too much work. Think about it, it would not be just a new skill line. It would require modelling the weapon for EVERY motif in the game currently as well as future motifs. I very much doubt that ZoS would be willing to do this.

Splitting the staff types though, would avoid this requirement and cut down on the work while providing players with more options. It would also allow the elements to not feel so restricted. It would also mean that each staff could differ more from one another than they currently do. No longer having the skills being simply skin changes with different effects. The skills could be really unique.

What I'd want is to restructure all weapons in a great overhaul. After that you'd have "one-handed" rather than dualwield and onehand + shield. Cosmetics would not have to be redone that way but we gain a lot more possibilities. Staves would not be necessary for casting magic anymore, but they would be an option. This would then allow for sword + magic to be an actual weapon option, which I feel is a playstyle ESO has been completely ignoring and which is what I identify as the main need to make hybrid builds viable. I feel it's odd that ESO has restricted the use of the basic magic to staves when anyone should be able to use these spells regardless of weapon choice no less (provided they got a free hand or staff to cast with).

This would of course be a major disruption to a status quo, so it better be introduced with a chapter and not between any two updates. It should also come with twice the PTS testing time for more feedback to be gathered and for players to be able to adjust.

if they split the lines they'd guarentee the death of frost dps because the skills would all be designed for tanking.

I actually wrote down some ideas on how each staff would look and operate. I gave Frost staff 3 morphs used for tanking along with the usual passives. I actually spent hours doing it. I get into it a bit too much. Kind of pointless really as no one will take it seriously. But I’m a creative guy and I play a lot of games so I know what I would like to see.

    Ummmm.... Why ?

What would the Point be ?

It's One skill line. Simply has 3 Flavors. It's still just One skill line.

Adding a New flavor is Not going to change the skills line. Just the special effects.

You miss the point. I’m suggesting 4 skill lines. One for each element. Hence separate them out.
