Please tell us this was an out of season April fools joke. Or that its a test and only stays on the ptr. The game is doing well. If you really wanted to help new players in their dps leave oakensoul alone or nerf it only for pvp. And add mythics that help new players.

I agree so much with op!

I am not a new player but I am a lazy player. I have not invested many, many hours into improving my damage and consequently it is distinctly average. I do not have PTS but I have read many of the recent threads on the proposed changes and I know my current play style is going to be hit hard by these changes!

So @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_Kevin @ZOS_JessicaFolsom I believe it is in no way a "knee jerk reaction" when I say DON'T do this.

You are going to end up hurting everyone not just the people with the highest DPS! Also you should remember those top people have spent hours and hours honing their skills to learn to do the damage they do, you do not just magically level a character and it can immediately do top damage, it takes dedication and time to learn!!

Why should they be punished for their hard work???

My main is a magicka Templar and I love her because she is currently able to solo a lot of content, she does that because of jabs, obviously I use other skills but jabs has saved me many times. I have read about the changes but obviously not tried them myself, it maybe that even with the reduced damage I can still do the stuff I enjoy doing, I am worried however I will now see increasing sustain issues due to the lower damage.

My main PVP character is a mag Warden, I'm not even going to start on that one!!

My points being DO NOT try and sell this as a measure to close the damage gap between low and high damage players, you are hitting(reducing the damage output of) so many players at so many different levels it is beyond ridiculous!
    When people say to me........
"You're going to regret that in the morning"
I sleep until midday cos I'm a problem solver!

Oakensoul nerf is only a minor part of the patch (pun semi-intended).

It's all the other nerfs that are harming players, the average players that aren't doing vet and endgame content yet or just started to and after this probably be able to anymore.

Completely agree with you. ZOS need to work a better way to deal with nerfs and buffs in PVE and PVP separately.

For real, i couldn't care less wether light attack is nerfed or not,

but no need to nerf the remaining game damage... buff it instead so every pro can reach 125-120k dps, talk with skinny and other pros and test rotations, just don't nerf everything :)

For real, i couldn't care less wether light attack is nerfed or not,

The light attack nerf is pretty indicative of how completely misaligned these changes are, though.

New players are specifically tutorialized about using light attacks to apply damage to enemies. Depending on your class, it may even be your only offensive ability until level 2 or 3, depending on which skills you unlock first.

This results in a lot of lowbies who are light attack spammers. (I don't have numbers, can't cite a %, but we've all seen them.)

Okay, but if the goal of this patch is to bring up the floor... why are those newbies getting punished because there's a guy that can parse 143k.

A frequent accusation leveled against ESO is that it has floaty and spongy combat. Which, if you're in the tutorial or fresh out of it, could easily be a perception. I get that. But, this only serves to make combat even more floaty and spongy.

So, this balance change nerfs new players, where there are already retention issues, and ramps them up, encouraging even more retention issues.

So, while you may not care about this specific change, (which, cool, that's your preference,) it has serious implications for the game's longevity.

It's more than just LA that are getting nerfed. These nerfs are deep and across the board. Healing, HA, ranged attacks, class abilities, lighting staff. In the patch notes, it's page after page of bad news. Go take a look. It's not encouraging.

If only they had a way to balance pvp separately from pve, maybe a permanent buff/debuff that only affects you in pvp zones... Call it "battle spirit" or something...

    This....

This is starting to feel like it has nothing to do with bringing high and low ends closer together. It's more about bringing damage levels down for EVERYONE. Sure high end damage is going to come down but so is the lower end damage. Like I said in another thread, I like the extended dot duration. But why nerf overall damage 30%?

Yeah I'm making a list of things to get done before the patch. I've been working to improve and thinking I would just do those things eventually when I feel ready. But now it seems like I work to improve 30% just to stay in the same place! It's *really* discouraging.

This is about brute forcing new content into relevance by nerfing old content.
ESO needs a PUBLIC GROUP FINDER. This feature alone would bring new life to the game.

Give us a place in game to publicly post our PUG groups and receive /tells about them.

Correct regarding the high end. The middle and low ends, however? Wildly incorrect. There is absolutely no good reason to increase the struggles of people who are struggling.

This is 100% an honest question, but I would love to see you or someone else expand on this thought.

Outside of the random normal problem, which is a ZoS design decision to tie valuable Transmutes to the normal dungeon finder, why does it matter that a very small number of people can do comically high or "obscene" damage?

If you can clear vAS why does it matter if someone else can get IR in less than 3 minutes?

If you can clear vCR who cares if another group can get Gryphon Heart in an absurd time?

If you can't clear older vet trials at all for some reason, how does nerfing top end damage change that?

It's not very small number of people. Sure if you only mean trial trifectas. But other content exists also and with current power creep has become a joke. Same with older content like vMA. Have you looked around in Craglorn for example. There are noobs cp200-300 running around with Flawless title and vet trial titles. I'm not even remotely the top end player but I have nothing challenging to do besides trial HMs. I have to make other content harder for myself by not slotting cp, using way off meta builds, no pale order for solo or Oakensoul etc to enjoy it somewhat. I tried vet vateshran on pts and I actually had to pay attention a little now lol. These changes are good for the average player. My guilds have done some naked raiding etc just to have some challenge. And these nerfs are not even enough tbh. Look at Deltia. He compared on reddit his live 22min Vateshran trifecta run with pts 25min one. It only took 3 min longer lol. And hes just an average player. Same when the latest trial came out (DSR), after 3-4 days I had already all the perfected gear farmed. I ran with different groups and the dps is currently so insane that we literally just skipped the mechanics on last boss. I got all the gear farmed but none of us even knows the bridge mechanic lol.
I'd say there's some serious power creep if an average Craglorn pug can just ignore the mechs on newly dropped vet trial.

It doesn't take much effort to hit 90k with templar. You literally spam jabs with LAs. Follow his guide and see for yourself. Templar is currently by far the easiest class to play because there's not much of a rotation. It takes 0 skill. Deltia may be slightly above average but hes definitely not the top. I wouldn't even put him in the same category with Skinny, Nefas or even Alcast.

solo is fine but the over powered people rush the game and dont help people instread they run to end of everything and complete it before it even started..

I’m going to dispute this, I’m way always from being overpowered, and you do a grand disservice to those players who are regarded as “overpowered” that DO go out of their way to help others.
I went from 15k on the dummy to 37k, in three months, with some assistance from those “overpowered” players. All it was, were tips and tricks on what abilities to slot, gear to use, basic rotation tricks- pre buff, dots, spammable, rinse repeat, do not forget your light attack weaves etc.

Those endgame rushers lose out on a lot if the lower tiers get nerfed to oblivion, not just on their own performance, but the performance and the effort that has been put in by those they’ve been coaching.

Not every end game running overpowered munchkin is heartless, they do care.

Edit; also how do you think we learn about the mechanics in top tier content? Certainly not through clairvoyance. It’s those same top tier overpowered players jumping right on into those trials and figuring out those mechanics, with trial and error, that then get shared throughout the community, so that WE don’t have to go through what they went through. Which is- figuring out mechanics from scratch! So yes, they’re going to get first clears and set records, they’ve EARNED IT. All those mechanics our raid leaders impart to those of us who are learning have to come from somewhere, from some group, they help players more than you give them credit for.
