Give Companions Adornments

I understand the reasoning behind not allowing companions to wear helmets as to not cover their face and thus their identity/personality (though I think hats that have no masks should be the exception). But why are we not allowed to give our companions adornments? At the very least major ones. Is Bastian offended by a nice gold circlet? Mirri allergic to a flower in her hair?
Minor adornments I can live without (though I’d be more than happy if we could allow them to wear them as well. Give Mirri some nice earrings etc), but I see no reason why they shouldn’t have major adornments. Especially as they can’t wear hats/hoods/masks, this is just a nice bit of decoration to match with whatever costume/outfit they are wearing!
(Wouldn’t my Bastian look nice with the gold and ruby vampiric circlet?)
