Bastian's keepsake sucks

So get this; having Bastian out will sometimes make you able to loot a slightly less trashy trash pot. There are three versions of this slightly less trashy trash pot and they all take up in total 3 additional slots in your inventory.

But since the drop is so rare, and only a very minor upgrade from regular trash pots, it's unlikely that anyone will ever use these for any real purpose. Regular trash pots drop in abundance - and can be quite useful for example in healing veteran dungeons depending on your group. You can easily gain full 100 item stacks of them, and they can regularly be bought cheap off guild traders.

Bastian's trash pots however have negligible benefits over regular trash pots, but also will take you probably months upon months of playing to reach full 100 item stacks of because their drop rate is super low for some reason.

So, with these three points in mind; negligible benefits over regular trash pots, having to micromanage an additional 3 inventory slots, as well as possibly taking months of playtime to reach a full 100 item stack; why would anyone want to complete Bastian's achievements?

The keepsake you get from completing them, makes it so that this "perk" is active at all times in every part of your playthrough f.o.r.e.v.e.r, even when Bastian is not at one's side.

Can we either get an option to turn specific keepsakes off, or a full rework of Bastian's perk? The only thing I need to complete his achievements is bringing him out when in Eyvea, and I keep putting it off because the idea of being bogged down with it in my playtime is offputting.

Ha, I'll do you one better:
They don't even work and never worked.

They are 100% identical to trash pots and don't provide and extra buffs. Just extra trash in your inventory.

I sold a stack of them for a bit the other day at a guild vendor since they are better than regular trash pots. I just look at it as free money tbh.

I only use Bastian to tank world and specific dungeon bosses, so I rarely see his potions in my bags. I avoid doing anything that raises his rapport too high, will intentionally keep it close to mid, and avoid his achievements that would otherwise unlock his memento.

Even Major Sorcery + Magicka potions are more expensive than the trash ones, so I really like finding them. But it is definitely far too rare.

Do they legit not give their second effect? I'll have to try when I get home.

Look at it like Mirri's special where you can find additional loot from chests which means you can make more money.
Mirri's special is to make more money.
I'm sure the devs never intended this to be that way, but in the end, it's exactly what they made: Another way to make money off of Bastian's potions.

I don't think they'd be completely useless if you could get them more frequently, where I could simply slot one of his special pots and ensure that I'd never run out. (by constantly finding and using them, especially for alchemical builds).
But yeah, I agree, there's no point on using them on the long term - you just slot a single potion, use it, and now it's just an empty slot in your quick wheel until you somehow get blessed by the RNG to get the same potion to use it again (and waste it on an overland mob that will still die from 3 hits anyway so it's not really important)

So yeah, Bastian's special is the same as Mirri but from other sources: It's more stuff you can sell.

Did they reduce the drop rate because everyone complained about the potions' uselessness? I remember commenting before that it was aggravating to receive less than helpful potions, but in hindsight their increased rarity has made it even more aggravating since you can't, as drsalvation mentioned, really stack and spam them. I think they need to be either rare and powerful, or decent and abundant.

If that's the case, then it's a bug, surely.

    Who the [snip] is bastian?

    I only know 1 companion.

    The ever lovely Mirri.

Doesn't matter to me if it works or not, I have so many tri potions from the logging rewards that they are pointless either way.

PC players have an easy solution:
install JunkBuster addon and add rules to autodestroy "Potent" Bastian's potions right on arrival.

(This is a great addon. I added rules to autodestroy stolen food and lockpicks. Authors' screenshots at ESOUI are informative)

I kinda regret getting his keepsake. I knew what it'd do, but I did it anyway hoping the potions would at least sell for more but... nope.

They literally sell the same as the potions that they are upgraded from, and since I don't use the trash pots anyways it's a big "meh".

Agreed, its a huge pain. As it stands now, its a true detriment to inventory.
If I could go back and stop my past self from unlocking this "upgrade"... I would certainly do so...

If the Devs were super awesome... they would make this so that all junk pots that drop are the upgraded ones.
If they wanted to go even further... they could increase the stack of these to 200 rather than 100...

That would make the passive very much worth unlocking... assuming the pots actually grant the buffs and are working...

If nothing else... (pretty) please just let us toggle the "upgrade" to Off so that we don't have to have our precious slots filled!

I imagine they are only useful for new characters who haven't done alchemy or amassed any of the free tri-stat potions they give us. I just sell them off like any other junk item.

So ZOS, are you seeing this thread? Someone mentioned in another thread they believed the reason we only had "female companions" in the new chapter is because you surmised people didn't want a "male companion" from looking at data which very likely shows Bastian was summoned and kept summoned seldom compared to Mirri - if that forum user was onto something in that regards, please know that it was always more that Bastian is really unfavorable in the way he is; the way he nags, the way he hates you for crafting food (stealing, accidentally hitting an NPC, for killing that NPC himself...), the way his posterior is flat like pancake (ok, that might just be me), and the way he bogs our inventory down with - as evidenced in this thread - trash pots that are identical to basegame trash pots but also take up an additional inventory slot per type.

I used to think of it like that. But I'm so tired of the inventory mini game at this point I think I would rather have the space!

OP, thanks for the heads up. I'll have to look into exactly when you get the keepsake and not do that. I haven't quite finished either of the first set of companions....
My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.
