Quest: A New Venture

I have the quest "A New Venture" where I have to play against a Novice Player. I've played against several of the NPCs upstairs in the gaming hall now (they all have an arrow over their heads), but the quest never completes... >.<
Do I have to win for the quest to complete?

From what I've seen folks in zone say, you have to win for the quest to complete.

PC NA, CP2500+. Character creation is the true endgame.
