Alt Account Refunds

Before mobile personal bankers/merchants if was common practice (as I was led to believe at the time) to buy another account and mail your excesses to it. There were also (in the early dark dank ages of ESO) to buy another account or two. I believe one was to have more alt toons/characters as the limit was eight per account at a time.

My question is, has anyone successfully received a refund and if so whats the best/worst I can hope for?

Why would you expect a refund?

Even if that was all you used the account for, you still got that intended use out of it at the time.

You can't retrospectively get refunds for things where the use you were getting from them at the time has now been superseded by more recent developments.

Why would you receive a refund? You got the account you used it, you can still use it to store things, some people even bought new accounts to have fresh achievements on new characters.

You have had this account for 7-8 years and you expect a refund now?
    Not happening

I too have an account I used as a bank in the early days of ESO.
I wouldnt even think of trying to get a refund for it.

I will also ask, what reason are you giving to ZOS in order to justify the refund? If the account is broken in some way, request a refund. If it's working exactly as intended, why should they give you a refund?

Apparently you can, I've been told they give refunds all the time.

I have two unwanted accounts, ZoS could give me compensation or delete the accounts.

In theory you can get a refund on anything. Doesn't mean you will.

You want a refund... for something - as an Alt account - you Don't Need to pay Anything to have function the way you describe ???

I only know this, because way back when, I did Exactly this. You auto-start in the Wailing prison. I found out you could Stay in the combat area and level up some. But my inventory got filled and there was stuff I wanted to hang on to. So I made a second account and mailed stuff to it since you could not mail to other characters on your same account (I tried). It cost me $0.00 since I did not get ESO+ for the Alt account.

So you are owed .... $0.00

How do you want the check to be made out?

You can normally get refunds on anything preordered but once you use the product that's much less likely. All you can do is ask worse case they say no and your in the same spot your in now.

The accounts go into cold storage after a certain period but not sure they would want to delete in case you change your mind some day.

I'm sorry, but there is no way you can expect a refund for an account that's gotta be at the very least 6 years old by my estimation.

And if someone told you they successfully refunded an account that old that they had been actively using, they were lying to you. Plain and simple.

I really don't understand how you could reasonably expect ZOS to give you back money for accounts you actively used for a time and now don't want.

That's not how refunds work for any game.

This is not a case for a refund at all. You could even buy accounts and never use them and it would be no reason for a refund. ZOS cannot force you to use a product you are buying from them. And all you got is a license in a way, to use the game in the intended way. It is a right basically, not a duty. And it would as well not matter if you actually can access the game, not even that is guaranteed - just read the TOS - ZOS owes you nothing, not even the service, if they couldn't provide it.

Well I may be the first or like most(or everybody who's answered) I'll get nada. To me it's worth a try, I could even be one statement from having all three taken from me.

True enough. Seems I'm stuck with them (delayed buyers regret) won't get refunded and can't sell them..

Many moons ago, when I used to work in customer service, there was a man who would come in every other day to refund the pie he and his wife had eaten two slices out of. He claimed they "did not like the pie".

Each time he refunded the pie, he would re-buy a new pie with the money, and several days later, he would repeat the refunding and re-buying of pies.

The clincher? He would re-buy the same kind of pies he had bought before, that he supposedly "didn't like". They would proceed to eat two slices out of the pie, then return it again for a completely new pie.

The store's "the customer is always right" policy did not permit me to stop him. The managers didn't stop him. The man was a pie fiend.

This post reminds me very much of that man.

The moral of the story- you eat the pie, you KEEP the pie.

    No free pie for you.

It's a big red flag that you're worried things you say would get your accounts taken from you.

    Maybe don't say those things??

You know, maybe because of the long maintenance or maybe because I'm weird, but I'd like OP to try and get a refund. I want to know what happens and see where this goes.

An alt account is no different than your main account. If you started playing on the account you bought the game. I don't understand your wanting to delete the account. Since ESO is buy to play it costs you nothing to ignore the alternate account and let it go dormant.

You might well hear about people getting refunds all the time, but I guarentee you those will be recent purchases, either brand new accounts or new upgrades. For example I know at least one person pre-ordered High Isle, tried it out on the PTS, didn't like it and got it refunded. But that's because they'd just bought it (and technically hadn't got what they bought yet, because this was before launch.)

If you've had the account for years you won't be able to get it refuded because...you've had it for years.

However they also won't delete or ban the account simply because you asked for a refund (if you got a refund they would, because you're telling them you don't want it any more), if they refuse you nothing will change. Unless of course in the process of asking you admit to having done something which would get you banned (including getting the account by illegal means), but if that's your concern the solution is to not say anything you know you shouldn't tell ZOS.

Are you on console? I think you can do this on consoles because ESO accounts are tied to console profiles and you can make more of those for free.

On PC it doesn't work that way, each copy of ESO comes with an account key which you have to use to make your account and each one can only be used once, if you want to make a second account you would need to buy another copy of the game because that's the only way to get more account keys.

My sister, who worked at a well-known fast food hamburger chain many years ago, told me about customers who would want a refund for the hamburger they hated but still managed to eat. I can't remember whether they received a refund. I just remember us shaking our heads over it.

I was going to say the same thing, I can remember back in old WOW days, people going on the forums and asking about (and in many cases demanding) MUH COMPENSASHUN. And man, those old WOW days the delays were genuinely egregious.

We all hate this crappy delay. We all hate it. But when you sign the EULA you pretty much sign away any right to something like this. Nothing new here.
