Maintenance for the week of March 9:
• [COMPLETE] ESO Store and Account System for maintenance – March 11, 9:00AM EDT (13:00 UTC) - 1:00PM EDT (17:00 UTC)

So, what’s the reason cosmetic purchases don’t cross server?

I assume it’s something to do with development end of things but I have absolutely no idea.

I just want my Queens-eye Spymaster outfit for my EU character. :'(

I think it's just whatever was easiest for ZOS.

It's not specific to cosmetics. Anything you buy outside of the game is available across both servers (but still only on the 1 platform), whereas anything you buy while logged into the game is specific to the server you're on at the time.

For example if someone buys the Blackwood Collector's Edition Upgrade on the website now they'll get all of it - the chapter and the cosmetic items - on both servers. If they wait until High Isle releases and Blackwood is available in the crown store buying the exact same package will only get them the chapter and the items on the server they're logged into at the time.

Doing it any other way would require extra steps.

Restricting out-of-game purchases to one server would probably require you to be given a code and then use it in-game to activate the purchase. (If buying direct from the ZOS website for PC or the consoles built in stores they could probably require you to log into your ESO account and then pick a server, but that would still be extra steps they'd need to create and more things which could go wrong.)

Making in-game purchases available on both servers would require a way for the servers to share that data, so one can update the other on what you've bought.

I'm reasonably sure ZOS could do either or both of those things, and I'm not saying it's a good thing they haven't made purchases account-wide (or made it consistent regardless of where you buy them from), but I think that's the reason: they chose the route that was simplest for them.

Yeah, I got the Treasure maps and collectibles from chapters I bought and can access those on EU as well. Actually starting the Wrothgar storyline because I haven’t done it since it dropped years ago and it’s a nice refresher and nostalgia

Just doesn’t make sense to me why that data can’t transfer the other cosmetics.

Well, It would be great to hear an official reason.

It’s human nature to assume the worst and when the topic is danced around, it doesn’t look great.

I don’t think you can really fault players, who are the consumer, to feel this way especially when the only ones who can answer my question is ZOS itself.

I’m hoping maybe a change, just like a fix for the mount I saved hundreds of dollars up for, in the future. But I am pessimistic based on previous experience.

It’s simply that what we purchase in-game is only on that server. What we purchase or obtain outside of the game is on both servers and that probably because Zenimax doesn’t really know what server we are purchasing it for.

              @Kuramas9tails

We have access to DLCs we purchased in-game only on the server we purchased them on. I just tested by logging into the server I do not normally play and have recently allowed my subscription lapse. Hence, any additional cosmetics such as mounts that were part of the DLC purchased in-game are not available on the alternate server either.

Again, I just tested this on my alt server and was able to access the chapter zones but not the regular DLC zones since I am not currently subscribed.

What is accessible are the zones associated with the chapters we purchased since the chapter purchase occurs outside of the game. Chapters are never available for purchase in-game though the zone does become a DLC which can then be purchased in-game and then it is only available on the server it was purchased on.

There was an ESO Gold Edition at one point that included the first four DLCs. In that case those DLCs are available on both servers, but again, it was because they were purchased outside of the game.

At some point I updated my Imperial edition which included Orsinum and Imperial City (it was on sale) with version including Vvardenfell, Summerset & guilds (it was on sale). I missed the Murkmire giveaway. I don't even play across pond any more but still I would only buy DLC when it is on hefty sale for real money.
Ingame store uses fake currency to hide the real cost of virtual goods. I find that distasteful so I refuse to participte.

Anything that you purchase outside of the game is account-wide (ESO Store items). Crown Store purchases are server-wide (cosmetics, DLCs, etc).

I'm guessing you originally bought the gold edition, which included Orsinium, so that will carry over to both as it's an external purchase same as chapters. Murkmire will have either been crown store or a dailies reward so on just the one server :)

I wonder how difficult it would be for ZOS to change it so the servers can share information on in-game purchases?

I suspect the tricky part would be that it couldn't simply overwrite one with the other, it would have to check what they have unlocked and only add missing purchases, not overwrite everything, but I don't know what might be involved in making that happen.
