The one time you don't want a PvP kill...

I was just in the Imperial City doing the questline with my Breton magsorc, and had the Rat's quest to defeat the Daedra at the Arena. Well, I went there and started slaughtering. When the final round was in full swing, I noticed that an AD player ran into the arena pit. I was crestfallen and prepared to die to his attack. But no, he actually attacked the Daedra! He kept the fire atronachs busy while I was dealing with the boss. Then, at one point the AD guy was behind the boss, and I launched a Force Pulse attack at the boss. Or so I thought. My cursor was just a tad too much to the left, and I hit the AD player instead. He died. I felt pretty bad about that. The one time you don't want a PvP kill, and then this happens. Too bad I didn't remember the player's username or character name, otherwise I would have sent him an apology message.

So, unknown AD warrior, if you read this forum: I'm terribly sorry for accidentally "murdering" you. If you see again in Imperial City a small Breton magsorc sporting a brown bun of hair, please don't come for revenge, as it was an accident.

AD traitor deserved what they got. We're at war here!

[Edit: this is tongue-in-cheek... which would also make a great Argonian name]

Just because leaders are at war doesn't mean we need to mindlessly kill one another when our goals align 😌

    I'm just being silly.

Also FYI- if that AD player died to 1 misplaced Force Pulse then they were probably dead soon anyways

Just one more enemy death to contribute to the kill 100 enemies in the arena achievement.

Personally, I make every attempt possible to kill an enemy player within the arena whenever I see one there, just solely to earn this achievement. To the point where I will even kite players into the arena before trying to kill them.

Yes, he must have been at very low health. The fire atronachs gave him a hard time, that much I was able to notice.

A perfectly valid approach, that. I'm not one to be over-merciful, either, because the city is a PvP zone, after all. But this did feel rather bad. The guy was trying to help and it must have seemed to him like I was stabbing him in the back. Oh well, war is war. And it's a reminder to look what's the target before firing off.

A moment of silence for the honored fallen.

Catching someone in the middle of a PvE Boss in the Imp City is a tumultuous coin toss. You would have been some really easy AP. Choosing instead to help you shows great character of that player and I commend them for it. As some advice the next time you find yourself in a truce while fighting PvE, keep the "enemy" player at 90 degrees of you from the Mob either to your left or right, so your reticle has no chance of touching them. If they're in melee range, then, well try your best.
Seriously it's high time the Alliance War be over. The Imperial City at least should've been a Vet zone where the three factions are in a truce while dealing with the Daedric invasion. But the game is starved of PvP content and god forbid you take any part of it away.

I had a similar experience in a delve in Cyrodil a couple of years ago. A DC player turned up, I didn't attack her, she didn't attack me, so we started through the delve together. Then I launched a heavy attack on a troll, and she stepped in front of it and took the hit. She must have thought I had tried to backstab her because she turned on me and started spamming jabs. I didn't even block to try to signal it was an accident (and she wasn't doing much damage), but she wouldn't stop. I tried to leave. she kept coming after me, so I killed her. Felt bad about it.

Understand your sadness. When I was a new PVPer I was getting a Bruma quest and an AD was there getting his inside the building. I accidentally hit attack on PS4 and of course he killed me. I felt bad as he had left me alone until then. Still haunts me to this day.

I like to check out those quest areas to see if anyone is struggling. There are two of them with Daedra in the middle and then there is the one in which you keep Daedra from breaking in. If I think I can help out, I give it a try. It's more fun if I am helping someone from an opposite faction.

the biggest pve/pvp challenge is the fight against the daedric titan in the Temple district...it took me a while to figure out how to beat that titan by myself - so, on a bunch of my toons i had to hang around and wait for someone to come along to fight it with me...didn't matter which alliance they were on, i just wanted to get past that quest...

mixed results over the years, sometimes folks fought with me, sometimes against...

If it helps, I think if you didn't immediately start attacking them when they turned up and were fighting for a bit side by side before the errant force pulse they would be well aware it was an accident.

i remember actually helping a blue slaying a boss in ad side of ic sewers, wasnt easy to avoid all aoe attacks in order not to hit him, but in the end we managed to dispose the boss...

id like it could happen more often, people often enter sewers to kill those or scamps for achievs and its quite annoying, other than pointless, to be slaughtered there (maybe one should have the amount of his tel var shown above his head, so its clear when hes an useless prey and just questing).

Well, that's probable enough. After all, I conspicuously avoided using AoEs after I realized what was going on (spammed them up to that moment) and did try to get to angles where I couldn't hit the AD.

Today it was the opposite to that episode. When trying to advance the quests, it seemed enemy players went out of their way to kill me just as I was completing an objective. Can't blame them though, since it's part of Imperial City being the way it is. But that only highlights how nice those people are who help even enemy players.
