Is High Isle the first step of story to redo Cyrodiil?

The first time I heard about the story for High Isle, I was pretty surprised. Trying to come to peace terms to end the war over the Ruby Throne? Interesting. I think Cyrodiil needs a “A Realm Reborn” reset like FF14 had all those years ago. What do you guys think? Do you think this is the start of a story to attempt to redo Cyrodiil sometime in the next 5 years?

Its what I have been thinking since it was announced in January, that maybe the three banners war will end and something else will happen for PVP

Doubt it. I think they spent way too much on Cyrodiil early on in development. They will leave the zone as-is especially now that PvP is clearly not the game's focus anymore (was it ever?)

Even when Abnur Tharn was here for Elsweyr there was story chatter of ending the 3 banners war, it has to happen eventually!

Just because a lot of time was spent on something doesn’t mean it can’t be fixed up and done better. The PvP community deserves that for sure!

It actually did start off as the whole point of the game but has slowly transitioned into much more PVE focused

Nope. That would ruin the game utterly for all those who came in late and who never got to do Cyro.

There is one holy rule for MMOs of this kind: nothing can ever really change. If anything changes, the older chapters become obsolete and need to be discarded. And that just won't happen, for sales reasons, for playability reasons etc.

So no. Whatever else happens in the High Isles storyline, one thing is certain - there will be no peace in Cyrodiil.

Wouldn't they need to change the stories for all the original zones if the war ends? Without the war a lot of the story doesn't make sense.
Beyond that Cyrodiil is PvP and if there is no war why are we fighting one another?
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

Same as those world event like dark anchor, they can just say three alliance agree with truce but some splinter group disagree and continue wage small skirmish among each other.

I really hope the story can move on.

With any luck a "redo" would turn Cyrodiil and IC into PvE zones. :)

A great point, I actually find the three banner war interesting from a story perspective tbh.

I think it will be two faction fighting vs. three; you will have those that want the war and those that want to end it. Both sides teaming up.

An interesting question. Whatever the answer, I do hope that if they end the three banner war, they keep some kind of large scale PVP. Even as a primarily PVE player, I do find the appeal and draw of a castle siege every now and then, even if the way a lot of Cyrodiil has gone is a bit stale for many.

I don't expect ending the war in Cyrodiil to ever be more than a plot device, something to give some understandable motivation to npc actions.
Actually ending it would require an enormous restructuring of the pvp framework for the game.

The 3 banners may not end, but perhaps it moves. Maybe the realm drops to a new plane (the updated and working/lag free rewrite). So it's still technically cyrodil, yet its the revamp.

If that happened then each of the original alliance zones stories would also need to be changed, as they all rely heavily on the alliance war in them. So it's doubtful that this will actually happen. It would require a top bottom redesign of the original game. Although I do agree the original zones do need major love. But will it happen? Probably not.
