Honestly am getting to the point (after losing a lot of novice games while working out the rules due to lack of subtitles in the tutorial) where I am quite enjoying it, which I find surprising.

One request though, could you please make it so that things on a long buff timer (food, drink, xp drinks and scrolls) PAUSE during a game?
The games take quite a long time and it would suck to have to schedule them, especially with other players when requested, so that they only take place at times when you wouldn't be wasting a buff.

As an update to my earlier post I am now providing feedback on the decks and cards in the game, specifically with respect to the questions:
What was your favorite and least favorite deck, and why?
Did you feel any cards were too strong or not strong enough?

Having had the chance to play all of the decks at least several times (and some many many times), I have several comments on balance and play. First, I think that The Rahjin deck is potentially problematic. By loading your opponent's deck with bewilderment cards you can deny them the opportunity to make effective turns, but the deck has very few tools within its own kit to counter itself (i.e. to remove bewilderment cards from your deck/hand). The treasury has just one counterplay ('Ragpicker'), and Red Eagle is an excellent counter, but also not a base deck. This means that new players or players without bonus decks will find Rahjin very very frustrating to play against. Loremaster Celarus is the closest thing that they have to a counter deck, but also requires a high level of skill to use effectively.
While before I had said that I found Loremaster Celarus the weakest deck, I now recognize its power comes more in its ability to allow you to draw hands that perfectly execute combos that you've set up. However, the deck itself is lacking in ability to build gold or power, and so is very often outshined by the others. I'm not sure that I'll favor using it, and I'm not sure who will.
However, the Ansei Hunding deck is even worse than Celarus. Where to start... first, it lacks a solid identity. It feels like it's trying to be something like a hybrid of Celarus and Pelin and Hlaalu, building power, allowing you to control your draws, and letting you take cards directly from the tavern. Some of its very high cost cards are great (Ansei Assault comes to mind) but the lower-cost ones are mostly not as powerful as their equivalents in other decks (compare Warrior Wave in Ansei to Customs Seizure or Hostile Takeover from Hlaalu, it grants more power but as the tavern is often loaded with cards that have a cost greater than 4 and so Warrior wave doesn't do anything). It's also got a much weaker patron effect than Hlaalu (but about on par with Celarus and much better than Pelin's).
Red Eagle is solid in partnership with several other decks but weak by itself. I never really find myself building into it fully, but I appreciate a number of its cards. Orgnum is a lot of fun to play with and against! Pelin, Crows, and Hlaalu are fine.
There are a number of cards that feel excessively powerful. Typically, they all fall into the category of having moderate expense but granting incredibly powerful play effects or 2-card combo effects. They're also concentrated in the Hlaalu and Pelin decks, which respectively center on building Gold and Power. The armory is a great example of this: it grants 6 power and 1 gold for a cost of only 5 gold. No matter what patron you're trying to build your deck into, it's essentially a no brainer to take this card (even if only to deny your opponent it). 5 gold turns are fairly typical at the start of the game, and so you can pick up the armory and gain boatloads of power while still getting a gold from playing it! This means that you aren't even sacrificing your ability to buy new cards when putting it in your deck. The 'House Marketplace' and 'Currency Exchange' cards in the Hlaalu deck feel similarly overpowered, though their higher prices somewhat mitigate this (as they are often late play cards and not something you can frontload and use immediately).
A final thought: patron effects. These are wildly unbalanced. Some decks undeniably have better patrons than others (though occasionally this almost seems justified as a way to balance a very strong deck with a weaker patron). I'll exclude Rahjin and Orgnum from this discussion because they both do their own thing and fundamentally change gameplay in rounds they're in--they're both really fun and very different from the other patrons. I think Duke of Crows is an excellent patron for a number of reasons: its power is really strong when deployed in the right circumstances, but having no 'favored' effect keeps its power limited: if you use it once you cannot be sure that your opponent will flip it back and allow you to use the ability again. Celarus has anti-agent abilities that are fairly expensive, pricier than tavern options like Black Sacrament and Ambush for sure, but also available on demand--I think Celarus has good patron abilities. Hlaalu's card sacrificing ability synergizes well with its gold generating play style, as you can buy very expensive cards just to sacrifice for prestige. Red Eagle's power for an additional draw is not very strong unless you are either desperate for another card (as in if you might be about to lose the match). Ansei Hunding gives gold at the start of the turn to a favored player, but this isn't really a patron skill that impacts playstyle or synergizes with its deck well. Pelin's ability to move agents into your draw pile isn't very good. There are plenty of agents in the Pelin deck, it's not like they're scarce among your cards and not something you're likely to draw without this ability, and so it almost feels as if this patron gives a trivial thing instead of something that could be more useful.

What are your thoughts in general regarding the gameplay and quest components?
    — I felt that while it could be a simple time waster, it really didn't have much of an impact like other chapters' main selling points had. It used to be new classes, skill trees, or at least things you could use throughout the game, like a mythic you wear in combat or having a companion help you take on a world boss. With this card game, as soon as you finish playing, you forget about it as it doesn't feel like it impacts the world. Well, beyond the NPCs acting brainwashed and now being retconned to say this game's always been around.

What is your level of experience with competitive card games?
    — Basically zero. I played Gwent a few times in The Witcher 3 and didn't care for it.

Approximately how long did it take for you to grasp the concept of Tribute? How long, or how many games, did you end up playing?
    — It was at least 4 games before things started to click. I believe I played around ten games, though that was because there was a bug where the NPC stopped playing and I was forced to hit the Esc key and forfeit. That happened literally three times in a row. Very frustrating as I had been winning too.

What took the most time for you to understand?
    — Agents. This wasn't part of the tutorial and reading this post I was confused when people spoke of them because I didn't even know what they were. It was only after finishing my second day of playing and closing the PTS that it clicked and I realized agents are those cards that sit in the middle of the table above your hand with the number on the bottom of the card that turned red. This needs to be explained in the tutorial. I'm not even sure NPCs use agents, so I couldn't grasp it for the longest time.

Was anything confusing or unclear while you were playing?
    — As I said, it was the concept of agents. But another thing is there's no indication of what my opponent is doing or really what's happening half the time. Several times I had a screen pop up that told me to discard a number of my cards and I had no idea why. Had I misread my own played card that said I had to do that, or had my opponent played a card that made me discard on my turn? Even a simple line of text on that screen that says "your opponent played this card against you" would help explain things better. Also, the orange cards and red cards are too close in color. I messed up a combo because I thought they were the same suit and while in your hand the little suit icon is hidden because it's on the right. Please consider brightening suit colors or move the suit icon to the left so it can be seen while in your hand without hovering over it.

Did you mainly play against NPCs or other players?
    — I only played against NPCs. And it was buggy, as there were 3 games where the AI froze and I had to forfeit to get out of the game. Nothing was clickable and I even waited past 90 seconds, thinking at first this was to show what a full turn against a real player felt like. Nope; it was just bugged. And in addition to that, there were times I couldn't click on the card in my hand. The "select" point needs to be expanded because you have to find what feels like a one pixel wide sweet spot. At one point, I furiously clicked a card I needed for a combo and it flew into my cooldown pile! What was that all about?

Were you able to easily find the Roister Club and the tutorial quest?
    — I did, yes. I was exploring the city and stumbled across the quest NPC. When I went to repeat the tutorial on another character, I found the posted parchment first.

What was your favorite and least favorite deck, and why?
    — I haven't used a couple decks yet, but I like the Red Eagle one to clear cards I don't like off the board and the St. Pelin deck seems to have a lot of power ones. I'm not really into the Psijic deck because it doesn't seem useful to me to just look at cards in the decks, unless I'm misunderstanding how to use it.

Did you feel any cards were too strong or not strong enough?
    — I don't think I'm good enough at the game yet to really tell one way or the other.

How did the Patrons feel? Did you find they fit into the game and general flow with their related decks?
    — I'm going to be honest here: I think they completely mess with the flow of the game. There shouldn't be two ways to win, with one of them being getting all four patrons on your side. I only managed to do that once. And one game, for six or so turns it was literally just the NPC turning the patron to favor them and me turning it back to neutral. We had to pay 3 gold each time and neither of us could buy cards and barely had any power in our decks. So it extends the game to fight over patrons and it feels frustrating. It would work much better if a patron just provided a special card when they favored you instead of fighting to get them on your side in order to win.

What did you think of the rewards you received?
    — Honestly laughable. Getting 44 gold, rawhide, and a white potion? Why bother playing? I did get a stack of grain solvent one time, but I would much rather have an increased amount of gold than stuff that clogs my inventory, especially since I don't have ESO+.

Do you have any other general feedback?
    — To be perfectly honestly, this game isn't entertaining enough or impactful enough on the world to justify the price tag of a whole chapter. It's something I would expect added to a fourth quarter DLC as a simple mini game. The length of time it takes to play is too long, the rewards aren't worth the time spent, and it's disappointing that this is meant to be the big draw of the High Isle chapter. If I end up winning the chapter in a giveaway (since I won't be purchasing it) I doubt I'll bother playing Tales of Tribute at all. I gave it a fair shot on the PTS so I wouldn't be hating on it blindly, but it's really not worth my time in game to play it.

I also am seeing the "You can't collect this patron" message when the cards have been upgraded.

Opponent is listed as proficient, but then as adept during the game; I feel this should be consistent.

Agents' combos seem to be proc'ing automatically, rather than by clicking the card. This might cause issues, or cause the player to think that the card has been used, when it still can generate its initial action.

[*] What is your level of experience with competitive card games?
Not a lot. I played Legends for a bit. It irked me too much to keep playing.
[*] Approximately how long did it take for you to grasp the concept of Tribute? How long, or how many games, did you end up playing?
2-3 hands. The tutorial does a poor job of pointing out & highlighting things on the board.
[*] What took the most time for you to understand?
How the initial decks are chosen.
[*] Was anything confusing or unclear while you were playing?
How the initial decks are chosen. (OH!! I'm choosing my opponents deck. Thanks for telling me. Somewhere.)
Edit: Also the whole idea of Agent cards. I don't think they were explained in the tutorial. If they were, they were quickly glossed over. What an agent is, how they work, how long they stay on the board, how you use them, etc. should have been clearer. That took me about 3 games to figure out, too.
[*] Did you mainly play against NPCs or other players?
    NPCs
[*] Were you able to easily find the Roister Club and the tutorial quest?
    Not really, but I managed.
[*] What did you think of the rewards you received?
Seriously? If this is typical, I'm gonna do nothing but play cards.

What are your thoughts in general regarding the gameplay and quest components?
I really liked the game actually, probably because I am the target audience. I found it a little slow though, I had planned my turn ahead of time often just wanted to drop my hand and take what I wanted, but instead, I had to click each card in hand to use them. Similar there is a lot of select and confirm when I'd just like one-click play.
The issue with the quests is being sent all over the continent, not all my characters have been everywhere and I tend to play through zones in order.

What is your level of experience with competitive card games?
I play a lot of Magic the Gathering including Arena and in person. I am familiar with Dominion, Ascension and probably the game that most closely resembles ToT, Star Realms.

Approximately how long did it take for you to grasp the concept of Tribute? How long, or how many games, did you end up playing?
It took me about three games before I was crushing the novice NPCs and I swapped to playing against people (unranked for the time being) I have now completed a tournament.

What took the most time for you to understand?
That when there is a pattern ontop of the cards it means their effect occurs when you take them out of the middle, I was so confused when I'd buy a card and something would happen for so long, and I often forget.

Was anything confusing or unclear while you were playing?
The Neutral, one-time-use cards, are difficult to distinguish from the Yellow Suit cards. You need to make them more grey. As I mentioned above I need to know clearly which cards trigger when I buy them. They have "when played" on them but they need a "when bought" tooltip.

Did you mainly play against NPCs or other players?
I have played both, but atm only novice npcs :/, which makes the vs player games a lot more interesting.

Were you able to easily find the Roister Club and the tutorial quest?
It was one of the first things I found while exploring.

What was your favourite and least favourite deck, and why?
Got to be Duke of Crows I loooove drawing cards. I haven't played enough of the unlockable decks but I have actually liked what I saw. My least favourite is St Pelin, it has what you need to win but none of the pieces to fuel that win.

Did you feel any cards were too strong or not strong enough?
Like many deck builders, there is an economy/engine phase and then you convert over to trying to win at some point. I found that expensive cards without a power element are weak as you no longer need to keep growing your economy at that point.
I had issues with the "acquire a card" cards where the shop was all expensive cards and I couldn't use them, or I was required to take a card I didn't want. I would want to have more expensive cards and acquire cards to have more combo --> power elements.

How did the Patrons feel? Did you find they fit into the game and general flow with their related decks?
Duke of crows is a very strong win-con. Loremaster is useless against NPCs and only a minor help against players. I found most of the others to be useful though. I do like this aspect of the game overall (what separates it from other similar games)

What did you think of the rewards you received?
I was a max level character receiving min level health potions and food items. Although I was getting a lot of materials. However, as a player without craft bag getting materials on a non-crafter character fills my bags so fast.

Do you have any other general feedback?
There are only a small number of cards that are actually interacting with my opponents. I want to have to pay attention to what my opponent is doing on their turn then I need there to be some interaction available to me. Adding cards to their deck, More discard, non-neutral cards that interact with agents, being able to toss cards from their deck, not just mine, Being able to copy effects from my opponent, Putting cards from their discard ontop of their deck. etc. etc. etc.

After not playing the game yesterday, I've been able to chew over some more thoughts and suggestions that I think might help some of the decks work better.

Orgnum, for me, is the biggest problem. Not just because the patron is overtuned (which it is), but because the cards themselves seem to be a bit of a missed opportunity. the following changes would not only beef up the deck compared to the patron, but could also bring a bit more interactivity into the game with just a little tweaking.

The theme of the Maormer is basically "raiding and piracy", but you don't get much sense of that from the deck apart from the artwork. The first change I'd like to see is scrapping the Patron bonus of + power in the cases where you can create a Boarding Party card. Then, what I would like to suggest is that instead of the Maormer boarding party cards giving 2 prestige as a flat amount each time they're played, it steals it from the opponent. I'd further tone down the meme-rush tactic that the deck currently plays into (where the player literally only uses those cards + the patron) where the winner is basically whoever gets to trigger the patron first. I'd accomplish that by giving the Boarding Party card a combo, whereby playing it singly gives 2 gold, a 2-card Orgnum combo steals 1 prestige from the opponent, and a 3 card combo steals 2, and a 4-card combo steals 3. This would stack the deck more in favour of the mid-late game, while additionally giving some counterplay to some of the decks that rush power, while also allowing those who want to use the Orgnum deck to have some more interesting combos. This deck could then synergise a lot better with other decks and give a bit more strategy.

I'd also change some of the Celarus cards to allow the player to scry the hand of their opponent - with a 3-card combo that allows you to send one of your opponent's cards from their hand to their discard pile. Being able to look at your own hand and discard cards has only limited use, especially in the early game, which is the part that takes the longest. If scrying is the main point of the Celarus deck, then give us cards that also scry our opponent - or even the tavern draw pile, say for a 4-card combo.

As some others in this thread have indicated, the Hunding deck (green) doesn't seem to have much of an identity. Since the Redguard are so martially inclined, and make such excellent tanks, I would like to see this made part of the deck identity. Firstly, instead of having the free card shuffled into the tavern deck, I feel it would be better for this deck overall if the Patron instead created one as a summoned shehai if favoured...instead of giving 1 gold if favoured, especially because claiming the extra gold takes away the opportunity to interact with other patrons on that turn, which for a single gold isn't worth it. A summoned shehai could be a Contract card that adds 1 power for every Agent the player has in play at that time. This would give extra motivation to the opponent to deal with your Agents and to use the Celarus patron power (thus making it more viable to use the Patrons as a wincon).

Furthermore, I'd change some of the current Hunding Contract cards to similarly buff the Agents the Player has in play. For example, by having 1-2 power for the first play, +1 health to all active Agents for the 2-card combo, and for a 3-card combo (perhaps on one of the Agents themselves), activate "camaraderie" which gives +guard on all active Agents so that any damage done to one is shared amongst all the active ones. Or something like that. I feel this would give more of an interesting warrior vibe and a defensive mechanic to the deck that could synergise well with St Pelin (which already has the taunt cards) or with the Crow deck, whose Agents are very squishy and easy to deal with.

(Sorry for wall of text #3, I swear this is maybe the last one)

    A few more issues:
I am also getting games where the npc opponent just seems to stop, and although I can hover over cards and read them, the game is essentially frozen and I have to concede to get out of the game.
Am also getting the messages on patrons in red 'you can't collect this patron' or whatever it is.
Am really fed up with the 'begin your turn' message shwoing up before the opponent cards have finished their animation, so clicking on my cards when the message shows up is pointless - this needs better timing.
Got 200 grain solvents as a reward! Whilst this is great, pretty certain this will be nerfed soon, surely?
Maybe it's me, but I'm not understanding any counter plays to opponents strategies - it seems like you are in a race to complete your strategy before they do their and that is it. Would like to be able to affect them a bit more, so it is more of a duel.
Am enjoying playing though overall, but would like to know how to get the other three decks - perhaps some clues?

What are your thoughts in general regarding the gameplay and quest components?
I love the approach of a deckbuilder built for a 2 plater comptetitive game, it balances the playing field at the very start like a draft in another game. The gameplay is fun and offers a new path every game even if you were to play only with the same set of 4 decks each time. Quests seem odd that the major part is requiring you to travel to different locations, I think a more interesting quest experience would be to have in game goals for quests. Example being buy 6 duke of crows cards in the course of a game or Win a game with less than 10 cards in your deck. It would add the spice to the questing.

What is your level of experience with competitive card games?
I have played MTG for at least 8 years, between standard, modern, digital formats mostly semi-casual to locally competitive. I have played hearthstone since launch at least in high ranks. Currently play a lot of Flesh and Blood since Aria. Also tried elder scrolls legends when it came out a while ago, so I play competitive card games frequently.

Approximately how long did it take for you to grasp the concept of Tribute? How long, or how many games, did you end up playing?
I think I have played at least 50 or so games so far based on tribute coffer rewards with a mix of facing players and the AI. It probably took 3-5 games to have all of the rules clarified.

What took the most time for you to understand?
How patrons worked, their tooltip did not seem as clean cut at first, but understood it after.

Was anything confusing or unclear while you were playing?
For patron abilities, if you can activate them without a target or not, such as the one that lets you return an agent from cooldown to the top of your deck can be used with no agent in cooldown.

Did you mainly play against NPCs or other players?
I try to play mainly against players, its also hard to find any more AI after you complete the storyline cause they only appear in areas where you are doing the quest.

Were you able to easily find the Roister Club and the tutorial quest?
I was just because I was looking for a quest posting on a poster, otherwise may have taken a bit.

What was your favorite and least favorite deck, and why?
I like to play combo or storm like decks so the Duke of Crows was my favorite, though it gets harder to play it against players with the 60s turn limit because the animations are too slow so most of the turn is waiting for animations to resolve before being able to play the next card. Especially the animation for reloading the shop, and shuffling to draw after the deck was emptied. Least favoriet is the psijic deck, it a good utility class, and I can see its uses, but its always better value to draw a card rather than scry a card I believe. Its not as explosive value wise compared to other dekcs.

Did you feel any cards were too strong or not strong enough?
The Armoury I find is really strong as is Rally without needing any other synergy with other cards of the same suite, those are the only I can think of that I frequently see.

How did the Patrons feel? Did you find they fit into the game and general flow with their related decks?
I think they fit well, the Duke gives a wincon to his deck, gold gives a way to delete cards after their use is gone, I think for the most part they felt good.

What did you think of the rewards you received?
The rewards were very generous and for someone who would play a lot all the crafting materials are a good incentive, the random health potions are a bit annoying and same with the food on occaision being on a characetr with maxed out crafting.

Do you have any other general feedback?
The animations are just too slow for the turn timer limit, more specifically the animation to reload cards in the shop after one is bought I feel should be almost immediate, and the one for reloading your deck and shuffling it should be immediate. These are both points in the game where whenever you are triggering the animation, you have done an action that may have a follow up. There have been several instances due to the length of these animations that I was not given a chance to respond because the turn would end before the animations were up.

Also the AI as it stands is not good enough for the different difficulties and will often play the cards from their hand and then pass if they can't buy anything, though the correct move would be that they use the treasury to replace a gold coin with a writ or something else, causing them to have several dead turns in a game.

some games with the Duke of Crows change their effects. for example, this game, it says pay 0 get 0. I've seen this occasionally at other matches and then other matches it's back to normal

Dialogues during the tutorial game should also be displayed because if someone does not know English, they will not learn anything (Yes, I know, you can turn on the chat, but hardly anyone knows about it)

Hi, I have some suggestion about the cards: the symbols indicating the combo effect are not so easy to read. Well hte effect is understandable but it's difficult to read WHEN the effect happen. The player have to read the card description to understand if it's combo 1, 2, 3, or 4. this card for example has the effect "draw a card" but the effect happen in combo 3 and there is nothing to make you understand that. If I can suggest something I would add a little number in one corner that indicate the number for the combo or put symbols before the effect with an X inside ... well I'll make some image to make it understandable.t9qspetm86d4.png

I forgot another thing: the minus and plus sign on the side of the symbol "draw/discard a card" are difficult to see and the color don't help colorblind peoples like me. especially the + symbol. can you do it a little bigger and maybe with a black contour to make them more visible. thanks.

How are you supposed to get Hunding's favor? In neutral, it's "opponent pays 2 power", so the only way is freezing the conversion from power to prestige on the opponent and then you can get his favor? That seems way too tough to achieve to ever make his 1 gold (which doesn't do a lot or anything in most cases once you got enough gold to afford a card to activate him anyway) useful. Unless I'm overlooking something, I feel like he needs a rework.

maybe a map marker similar to the dailies would be nice for those npcs to play. after completing the quest, I was sad to have a hard time finding others to play

Yes this, marker on the town maps indicating where the regular NPC opponents are please!

(Not the Founders ofc, obv. you have to fid them yourself, but the regular novice/proficient/expert NPCs)

Has anyone figured out what the treasure chest field on the right does?

It converts a card into a 'Writ of Coin' card that is worth 2 gold. It is a good move to accumulate those early in the game by converting the 1 gold cards into it.

Thank you! That answers my second question about how on Earth do I ever get to buy cards worth more than 5 gold from the middle of the screen...

Yes, that was a version an NPC was using. Probably an old version that they keep using.
