I don't really have an opinion on "fair". This MMO is not my first rodeo, and - really, ESO is not nearly as egregious with "unfair" stuff as the others I played.

I don't get into whether stuff is "fair" or not. I didn't have any issue using 5 tickets on each account on both PC NA and EU for making a pet I use on a couple of characters (over the 60+ alts I have). Basically, the pet is a WHOLE LOT more interesting than the mount.... eww. Though I honestly don't see any of my characters even using the pet long term.

I'll be interested to see if the next couple of "rewards" are anything I want (at this point, seems unlikely). I like the pet from last year as well as this year's pet, but even the "free house" last year wasn't anything I wanted to waste tickets on. I only "buy" stuff that works for me. I'm at this point pretty sure that whatever the last bits this year are, I won't bite.

If they were going to charge (because that basically is what it is) for a pet they should have made a more attractive pet. This one while better than the bunny (a very low bar) is not all that intesting. I will give it a pass.

Didn't really care one way or the other. Mostly because I don't want the gryphon mount, so if I didn't have something else to spend tickets on, I'd have just been letting them go. So spending a few on the spider really wasn't an issue for me. /shrug

(I didn't want the previous skin, either. So I came into this event with maxed tickets, a dragon pet, and a spare set of dragon parts. At 3 per day, I ran out of things to buy pretty quickly.)

edit: all the ticket stuff, whether it's "omg, I wasted tickets, it's horrible" or "there's too many things to buy, it's a cash grab to force you to buy crown tickets!", all seems over the top to me. It's just not that big a deal. :|

It is associated with an event just like the Indrik was. Makes sense that it would take tickets.

The should have let us over ride the ticket cost by having 100 of each pet part. (I'm pretty much there for all 3 pieces)

I'm choosing "other" because I don't particularly like having to buy a final fragment to complete a pet whose other fragments can all be obtained from coffers, but it could be worse.

It's better than having to buy all of the fragments with tickets, as is the case with most other pet or mount event collectibles.

But there have also been collectibles where all fragments could be obtained from the coffers.

So this particular pet is sort of like a cross between those two types.

I don't think it's going to be a problem for me, because I think I'll be able to collect everything from the event, whether from the coffers, purchasing with tickets, trading with other players, or purchasing with gold.

But I can see where it might be more of a problem for newer players, or players who had astonishingly bad luck with regard to getting the outfit style pages from the coffers.

The good news is, the instructions will be available from the Impresario's assistant 24/7 after the event ends, the same way he has certain other event-related goods for sale at all times.

I don’t like the precedent it sets. They made the pieces drop at such a ridiculously high rate and then make you spend tickets to complete the collectible.

I was able to still get everything else I needed this event, so it wasn’t a problem. It could have been, if I did not get enough style pages and had to choose.

The instructions cost 5 tickets though, and I wanted a cake decoration and it was only 3 tickets.

Please do not require tickets for future collectibles.

I am probably an outlier, but since I have no interest in the normal rewards the events have offered over the years, it was at least something for me to spend a couple tickets on instead of staying capped at 12 and watching them go poof every day I get the buff.

No. They already had the cakes in there as the additional item, they didn't need this too.

It just felt like invasive advertising for the crown store rather than a real reward. Tickets OR drops should be needed but not both IMO.

No, we never had to do this in the past, we would either gather the pieces and assemble the pet, or pay 5 tickets for the pet without needing pieces. It's basically a ticket drain to boost sales, like the worm cult motif being behind event bags.

As this one said in another thread, it’s like buying an IKEA flatpack (Skarrsnorresbond; three-legged oak veneer table) and then find you need to fork out more for the minimalist instruction sheet and the Allen key.

Come on, ZOS, there are more cunning ways to money gauge:

For example, if you say Khajit must buy table and three bags of frozen IKEA meatballs, that’s a different story :D

I don't like the term "fair" here but it's what OP uses. When the cash shop was added I(and many many others) had an 8 MILLION (exaggerated, but seriously HUGE) page thread going about games and cash shop tactics. Everything from pay to win to dirty tactics like lowering drop rates on items that just HAPPENED to be offered in the shop. I actually left the game for a year(and I know I'm not the only one who either outright left or took a break)

When I got bored one day and looked at ESO I saw that while prices were MUCH higher than I would have thought, and drop rates for things that were also sold SEEMED a little lower, Zos actually hadn't done as bad as I had feared. So, with a bit of caution but still impressed, I began playing again. But more and more things( and this instruction/ticket deal was the latest example,) smack of the foul, dirty business of "squeezing the rock" rather than having "options". I'm an older generation, I've been comfortably successful in life off retail management in one of the world's largest retailers in the world for more decades than some players here have been alive. While I no longer do that for a "living" and can be "me" instead of "Mr(name) I haven't forgotten anything. I'm MUCH more likely to walk into a nice shop and probably overspend when I feel comfortable and unbothered than if you try to drag, heard, or "hassle"me in a certain direction. So "fair" isn't a word I'd use here. Dirty, testing, and what feels like a rookie(or a "looks good on paper) mistake all fit. But then again, I don't have Zos' numbers and the gaming business seems to be a bit, I'll just say different, than box store retail and even online shopping, so what do I know.

I suspect they are doing this to avoid having more parts that need to be collected. They are probably locked into either several parts or a few parts plus something purchased. Game design rules, I would imagine.

    I don't like it, though.

Aside from the pay to assemble business model, the spider is rather loud. This one was doing his penance (aka daily writs) and all Sammy can hear is the roaring of these spider pets.

Yes, it was fair to spend event tickets to assemble the pieces.
In that event you could earn more tickets than you can spend on items in the shop (if you actively done some dailies and got some of the motifs "for free" already).

So it didn't make a big difference if I spend tickets for the spider or a group repair kit.

I mean, they could have made it optional.

If they said, "you could assemble it for 50 of each part or 1 of each + the instructions" at the very least I 'd have had a use for the amount of spider parts in my fetching inventory.

    But noooooo.

    *Not taking sides here but:

    1) people asked for more to spend tickets on ---> be careful what you wish for; this is not what anyone asked for

    2) re the plethora of useless spider parts, well it was only 3 inventory slots ---> everyone complained about the multiple style pages taking up inventory space so they made them stackable; everyone continued to complain so this is what we got

*Neither was the best solution and esp making the pet part for tickets instead of even bothering to put anything from the long list of items people have asked for, but I'm really not sure what anyone that's been around for any length of time expected.

The drops were of such a high rate, you were virtually guaranteed them. And in an event where you didn't have to "do" anything to get the tickets (just use the momento, no quests). Having to spend 5 for the pet was very reasonable.

I personally didn't care. Its only 5 tickets and there are plenty to be earned during this event. I was able to get the pet, both parts for the gryphon mount, and a couple pieces for the pet to prepare for the 3rd event morph. It was either spend the 5 on the pet or don't receive any more tickets due to the cap so why not.

I don't really see how fairness applies in this case.
Sure I had to spend some tickets to get the last "piece" but that doesn't bother me.
So more accurately for me, I didn't feel it was unfair I guess?

This event was a huge win imo.

I don't mind getting a pet with tickets but I dislike the drop/ticket combo mechanism. I had to carry around parts until I earned the tickets and then afterwards I kept getting the parts but the drop rate was so high they weren't worth anything.

I think some pets should be free and sometimes they can/should have a bonus pet to buy, but the mix was inconvenient and did not make the experience more fun.

I don't think fair or unfair is really relevant. I'm just thinking of impact. My guild is not banking any spider parts because who knows if some member in the future who did not get the pet will be able to get that set of instructions from the Impresario in the future? Don't really have an opinion on how to earn that pet except that, ultimately, it was quite easy to get for anyone participating in the event.
