Unpopular Opinion: Looking forward to the Card Game

Also unpopular opinion, I think many people here were blinded by not getting what they've wanted that they can't think about how neat this might be.

The more I think about it the more fun I believe I'm going to have. Building a deck, walking into Taverns, which we otherwise have had no reason to visit, to challenge others. It's giving me seriously nostalgia to my childhood when I wished I had gone to the local card shop more when they hosted tourneys for Pokemon and YuGiOh.

Yes, I'm also not getting what I've been wishing for, but this just may still be fun in its way.

Same. Like you, looking forward to having busy taverns.

Maybe not too busy though, still a great place for roleplayers ;)

I think this will be fun. I can see why folks are irritated because it's not something bigger - like sea battles, or a new class or skill line, but I am keen to see what they do with it.

The part I don’t like is that “building a deck“ part.

Gwent. Caravan. Loved the games they were in, never played them.

Somehow we were able to create games with many different rules from a standard 52 card deck.

And I’ve heard that use tarot decks to play cards in Europe, but when I tried that with poker, one person got married, two met a tall stranger, and 5 people died.

I actually really enjoy card games. I loved playing Gwent. I enjoyed Hearthstone, and I enjoyed playing Legends. Since they stopped updating or doing anything with Legends, I am excited to see that there will be a new card game in ESO. To me, it will be a nice thing to do when I take a break from PvE content.

But personally I AM kinda meh about the whole, if you have cards that the other person doesn't, both decks are combined to make things equal. The whole point of card collecting is to have cards your opponent doesn't have, and have the advantage over them. I think they should reconsider that one before release.

We simply weren't happy we haven't had a combat addition in a few years now. A lot of people want some other weapon for magic users.

I will be happy if card game rewards housing materials and corn flower.

If ZOS thinks I'm giving them more money any time soon, they should have their heads examined. A card game would be neat, but I'm fairly upset right now as I have already given them my money.

That's exactly what I'm unhappy about not seeing. An Unarmed Magicka weapon tree. It even exists in the game already for certain Mobs with a couple abilities.

Introducing that alongside a Breton centric Chapter would've been gold.

If the Ascending Tide DLC is any indication, this card game probably won’t be working until August or September at the earliest.

im looking forward to it too. Didnt expect me to say this , always been here complaining about cyrodiil performance , but i have come to a point that i play the game very casualy now.

I liked very much elder scroll legends ,even though they will not implement that , i hope it will be similar to it.

I am excited for the card game. But how I like it will of course depend on the mechanics of the game, and wether I'd have to grind for cards - grinding is no fun.
But I am quite excited for it even though I know almost nothing about it. I love good minigames. And a card game is a quite extensive minigame :)
I try not to get too excited about the hyped announcements of new features, so I'll avoid dissapointment if it doesn't work well, ot I don't enjoy it. But I suppose they must have worked on this a great deal for a while to launch a completely new feature. I hope they had fun designing and testing the cardgame :) Gamedesigning can be good fun and also rather challenging, and I can't imagine doing it full time. The pressure from a forum/community being very vocal about all the dislikes. How disheartening it must be when so many voice strong opinions about how little this card game fits in their vision for eso. Not denoting how much it sucks to be the community thay see the game you love and pour time and money into, slide further from what we thought it was sometimes.

Add to that, with current trends it will probably be missing a full deck. ;)

The devs have already revealed that it will be "shared deck" and "turn based". This already kills any hope of the game being fun or interesting:
    1. Shuffling decks with your opponent makes deck building pointless and renders the entire game non-competitive. You could literally use your starter deck and still beat a sweaty player with their own meta cards.
    2. If the painstakingly glacial pace of 99% of dungeon pugs is anything to go by, then each card round will take FOREVER with no solutions such as fake queueing or skipping to final boss. God help us if there's actually useful rewards locked behind the game mode such as mythic leads...

The thing is ZOS already said that u will be able to get transmute crystals as a reward for playing. Knowing ZOS it will be the best way of getting them so ppl will buy the chapter and later they will nerf the rewards.
They can also add cards in crown store :)
Of course im hoping that im wrong but... We will see.

Also with Greymoor we got scrying which had something for everyone, Blackwood added companions which are used mostly in normal content (nothing for endgamers and PvP players) so i rly think that this year system should be focused on PvP or Outfit System (as PvP barerly gets anything new and Outfit System is liked by almost everyone). But that's just my opinion.
Im happy that someone is happy about this card game. If nobody would like it... Well that would be a nice joke.

A multitude of competitive card games using a standard deck would disagree.

It does go against what most “collectible” card games go for. If it had to be a card game I would have preferred some kind of gambling game with a standard deck.

I think it's a huge gamble because designing card games is very different from designing an MMORPG, and most card games need regular updates and occasional reworks/overhauls in order to stay fun and worthwhile.

It sounds cool to potentially have a new little way to play with people in a tavern (especially if it's added to housing with a collectible furnishing).

But if there IS ongoing content and updates for the card game, I don't look forward to the constant forum rants about the card game being updated while bugs and performance aren't fixed and new combat content isn't added.

It'll be great... until you get an achievement for it. Then the database will probably explode XD
Coz there was this one time... a year or so ago... where a player (can't remember the name) got support to change an achievement for one character & that locked them out of their account for months! Then the very next patch, they change EVERYONE'S achievements... what could go wrong!?! erm...

I think it is an interesting idea, but should in no way be some kind of 'main' feature of an expansion. More like DLC or an extra but not main. Really what are we getting for the expansion? New companions. A map. A card game. Pretty damn lame. That's, frankly, DLC level. Not expansion. Should be included with the price of plus.

When I first heard about the card game I thought "okay cool this might be fun". But now that I have seen it's not a Monster vs Monster battle type and is instead about building up resources or something. I am not so sure it will be all that great. Add to that you pool your cards with your oppnt and both draw from them......it seems it could be a mess, and more luck based than any kind of skill play.

Yes this system may seem like it's going to be a more fair game and not one where who has the best cards win, but still - everything relying on pure RNG/luck is not totally the best answer either.

Yes I am still looking forward to it because it is another game system and may be fun and with whatever rewards are coming with it. I just think it could have been even MORE fun/better if it was not what it's going to be.
