Ignore list

So I truly believe the Ignore list is either too limited or should let you know how long the person has been offline/.to show you if you group in random dungeons/trials who they are. People for various reasons put ppl on ignore. Either they and/or their community that they identify with is being harassed, threatened , stalked. Sometimes ppl are just a$$hats, and you don't want anything to do with them. Whether a serious threat to an annoyance, I feel a better way to curate our online experience is necessary. Many have expressed this problem but feel they will just be ignored if presented. I ask to please either extend the ignore list and/or show how long they have been offline (like in the guild roster)and/or show a symbol or border around the perps name to show they are on your ignore list and/or add a Note section as to why, in that moment, you decided to ignore. This helps so that if you were just moody, having an off day, whatever you can gauge, did this person actually hurt or troll or was I being sensitive? And some might think can't you remember the ones that are TRULY awful......my boyo, there are way more that are so awful, especially to marginalized folks( BIPOC, jewish, women, muslim, pagan, LGBTQ) that it is improbably to keep track.

I still wonder how people manage to fill their whole ignore list. [snip]

You mentioned "stalked", yet you want to see online status and location of your ignored players.

If someone is really harassing you, then you should report them. Zos even gives out warnings for mudballing other players.
You can just get rid of the real threats instead of playing hide and seek via your ignore list.

It could be managed to only show if they've been off-line for 6 months or more like when Zenimax put them into cold storage.

I give everyone on my ignore list a pardon about every three months. People grow up, sober up, quit the game...

Most of the times that I hit the ignore button, it is simply so I don't have to see their nonsense clogging or polluting zone chat at that particular moment. If I run into the same person again, and they are still acting like a buffoon, I'll just ignore them... again. Although I've undoubtedly ignored the same person twice, I'm not consciously aware of having done so.

Yes, it means I have little patience for idiots.

I have a full ignore list. I ignore folks who are actively trolling, people who won't stop talking in ALL CAPS, people who think joking about abuse is funny, people who are attacking others or being really vulgar for fun.

I report the latter. I hide zone chat for some, and others I ignore. Been playing this game for a while and it adds up.

I think something that shows when you ignored them would be helpful, because then I'd just remove the ones who've been on there for ages from the list.

Does your friend also say the same thing about your friends list? Lol they seem pretty judgy tbh. Honestly if someone is just rude, annoying, a troll, to you that's a good enough reason to put them on ignore. It's better then reporting them. To me the ignore list serves as a better way to enjoy yourself while also not removing the enjoyment of another person doing whatever stupid things they're doing. It literally harms no one. But apparently according to this friend of yours that is a horrible stain on someone's character if you don't just shut up and deal with it when you literally don't need to. It "will tell a lot about your character" if you have been playing the game for awhile and came across a lot of stupid orjust hateful people you don't want to see again. Ignoring someone is basically saying you're not doing anything extreme enough for me to report you, but I also don't want to see your posts in my chat box again. If I happen to find out some dude has a full ignore list I don't go "wow that dude's got problems" I just shrug and go, he either met a lot of idiots or some other reason. And that's fine. Whatever. But I don't go making guessing games of their character if I don't even know them...

So onto my opinion of what the OP wanted. Yes I think ignore list should be expanded. As well as friends list and guild member roster max. Honestly, all of these are so low imo. But I don't agree with the tracking people on your ignore list. I honestly don't see the point in that one. To me once someone is on my ignore, that is precisely what they're doing. Being ignored. I don't want anything to do with them. I certainly don't want to know what they've been up to.

Yes. It says I have no patience for trolls, immature wanna-be center of attention posters who believe that grade school level bathroom humor and extremely inappropriate sex comments are just teh bestest highest form of humor evah and people who don't consider acting like self centered backside chapeaux to be a bad thing. Maybe its because I fit into the older demographic for Elder Scrolls players. Maybe its because I don't think juvenile bathroom comments and sex jokes are all that funny. I dunno. I've done /feedback when I've been in some of the zones, begging for a larger ignore list. After some of the chat in starting zones I really don't know why new players wouldn't run in the opposite direction instead of playing.

I have no one on my ignore list. The times I did ignore someone I removed them later that day and never saw them again.

But I have a different approach to blatantly inappropriate zone chat. When I see rude or offensive comments I announce that I am going to start reporting if it continues. Surprisingly this frequently stops it with no need to ignore.

Had 2 or 3, all from before one tamriel because of dungeon drama.
See no reason to add people because zone cheat.

I've only ever ignored one person, a guildmate who was extremely hostile, and angry all the time. And people kept letting her back into the guild.

While I disagree that the ignore list is two limited I do agree there are three changes that should be made to the list.

    1. Players should never be paired with anyone on their ignore list when using the dungeon group finder (BGs should not be affected).
    2. We should be able to make a note to know why they were on the ignore list.
    3. Showing how long they have been offline.

The list should not be larger. As a heavy MMORPG player for a long tome I have never had more than 10 people on my ignore list. Probably never more than 5. The suggestions I have made in this post would give those who seem to challenges with members in the community a means to manage their list well.

I also suggest that when someone sends an ignorant whisper, do not reply. It takes two to tango. They are just trying to frustrate you and they will be more frustrated that you do not reply and eventually move on and forget you. Quietly walking away means you won. It also means they do not need to be put on the ignore list.

Basically you are saying that someone should be able to ignore a person and track their location and last online time, well that is not going to work most likely. I mean it is a major privacy issue and you can ignore someone without their confirmation unlike adding them to your friend list.

I have weekly or sometimes monthly "ignore list amnesty". I clear everyone off the ignore list (except for certain sociopathic narcissists who have proven to my satisfaction they will never change).

Lots of people on the list I never hear from again so no need to keep them on the list anyways.

Other people are repeat offenders, recidivists if you will, who periodically get ignored, mostly for zone chat diatribes. But sometimes I can put up with their dialogue for a few weeks before I turn off the channel again.

I recommend trying ignore list amnesty. It is a satisfyingly feeling to know you now have 99 new slots in case you need them.

Yep. I have been saying this for years. Our ignore list should not have a cap. 100 is not enough.

Also... get ready to have the majority of the replies about "you being too soft" or "maybe you are the problem"... It happens every time someone brings this up.

It's not a matter of being too soft. We all have different tolerance levels. But 100 is more than enough if we keep the list maintained.

Clear the ignore list once a week or so. The odds that we will hear ImmatureZoneChatGuy behaving badly in zone again is actually pretty slim.

Turn off zone chat if it's a particularly bad day instead of filling the ignore list with a lot of players we will probably never run into again.

Someone said we can put notes next to the player's name in the ignore list. This is a good way to note someone who was being more than just a little offensive and was personally harassing you so you know to keep them on the list.

Yes that is correct. Teabagging is also a bannable offense. The worst offense you can commit is to appeal to ZoS.

But any actual bullying, harassing, stalking, racism, biased, homophobia, etc etc etc etc etc are all perpetrated by the same users for years on end! Welcome to the game! :D

Like if I could even put notes up, to just see if it was someone sexually harrassing, being super racist or I was just being sensitive that day, it would help a lot to see who I can get rid of off the ignore list. At the very least, adding notes, would be VERY helpful.

But I can see how that can be too much in the tracking sense. At least to add notes would be very helpful I think.

My only problem is that, for me, some of the worst type of harassment has been said via discord/teamspeak/etc... So I have no proof to forward to Zos that it even happened. So sure I could leave that discord and even the guild if that happens and I do, but its would be nice to have a more accommodating ignore list for those instances that you just can't prove that the harassment happened when you are guesting in someone else's discord/teamspeak.

You can just get rid of the real threats instead of playing hide and seek via your ignore list.

Reporting them to ZOS is deff a thing to do, whether or not ZOS takes action is another thing. I have reported a certain player who stalked me online, and THEN somehow shifted to IRL, and ZOS legitimately did nothing to help me. This person was back during midyear, on yet ANOTHER account, attempting to follow me around and harass me. I know multiple people DRIVEN from the game because of harassment and those players have been warned and banned and yet still come back on new accounts.

The ignore list itself, needs a proper note system so you can note why you ignored someone, I have people on my ignore list who frequently change their @ names (because they harass people and then "hide") and I cant -remember- what it is they did to me, but anyone on my ignore list is there for a good reason. It deff needs to be longer. You also, IMO, shouldnt be able to be grouped with someone you have ignored. When I ignored my stalker, I was placed in a group with them for an event, and I didnt realize it at the time. They were able to see everything I was saying, and follow me around via that. I had no idea it was them since they had changed their @ name at the time, until I noticed their behaviour and checked my list and low and behold - it was them. We should NOT be put into groups with people we have ignored.

I understand that it is not ZOS's fault there is bad people on their game, but they could do a little more to help us deal with and manage them.
