Another one of these threads, another place where I can add my +1.

More options is rarely a bad thing, and just being able to hide more parts of gear than the helmet can add so much more variety to possible outfits (which in my opinion is an excellent thing).

This seems to be quite a popular opinion, perhaps adding to one of the existing threads could be an option?

Shoulders are the main one I'd like to hide. On most of my characters the vast majority of options look very oversized and/or end up floating above their shoulders. The vast majority of the time "choosing" shoulders means looking for the smallest/flattest option which doesn't otherwise look out of place with the rest of the outfit. It's very rare that I actually get to pick one which looks good instead of simply tolerable so being able to hide them would be a big improvement for me.

It would be nice to have the option to hide other armour pieces too (or parts of them, like tassets which only really make sense with a breastplate and certain leg armour) but hiding shoulders is my first priority.

Agree. This is such a weird thing to me, these unbelievably oversized shoulder wears. It is both ugly and impractical (not that practicality matters in ESO anyways). Like you, I try to find the least "offensive" ones, that look at least somewhat practical.

Yes, and we request it on a weekly basis. Let us hide shoulders, belt, chest gloves, the damn tassets like hip and crotch flaps etc.

    Not really.

I think it's un-needed if they just design a couple of pieces of gear.

IF they would put out one basic style that had a shoulder piece of just arm bands around the bicep or something similar that would look good on barbarian style bare chested looks or just end up being covered over by most other armors that are more bulky it would be the fastest and easiest way to solve most outfit issues.

    OyG8Y1g.jpg

They are already built into some chest styles, so it's definitely do-able:
    Fs7o0xQ.png

Hip flaps are another story though. - If they can't make armor pieces that don't float on various body types then they should get rid of them. Some are ok, some are horrible and much like shoulders, just often don't fit the scale of the rest of the armor in many cases.

But if they wanted to do the work to make it possible, then whatever. I just think its pretty sad that we've seen the same complaint about shoulder designs for years (and they have gotten better in some motifs) - but there is no way they aren't aware of the complaints - and yet, a simple solution like this hasn't been done. They roll out new styles constantly, a fix like this would have zero impact on anything else and wouldn't take any addition work in recoding anything.

I'd love the option to hide any piece of armor. The counter argument from ZOS is that you'd have a bunch of naked people running around. My counter to that is,

A: You can already do that, especially in non combat areas by just unequipping your gear.

B: My immersion is broken by the sheer number of flappy pets in my face constantly. A few loincloth wearing characters aren't even a blip on my radar at that point.

C: You give me skins, body markings and tattoos that I can't realistically see through normal gameplay. A feature to hide any gear piece will make those cosmetics more useful.

Please, yes. Hide Shoulders is by far the QoL update I want the most. Please Zenimax, I beg of you, we have been asking for this for years now. I believe it to be the most asked feature ever in the history of ESO.
We know from a 2018 live stream that the option was implemented on the PTS. I assume that the reason why it hasn't been shipped to live servers yet is because there are still some technical issues with it that haven't been resolved yet. I can't find any other reason as to why you wouldn't want this feature to be part of the game. If my theory is correct, then please let us know that you are working on it to be ready for live servers.

I've never really understood that logic, for exactly this reason. If anyone wants to run around Tamriel in their underwear they already can, and some people do.

I also suspect it would be like the argument about weapon dying where before it was available there was a lot of worry about players dying their light red weapons pink or other bright and unrealistic colours and while that does happen occasionally from what I've seen the vast majority actually do the opposite and dye them realistic colours, or at least blend it in with the rest of their outfit.

I had this in another game and the result has been an orc with bare chest, glittering golden pants and a big star-shaped mask on its head with the face being in the middle. He was a nice guy but i didn't want to be seen with him anywhere.

LOL! You'd think ZOS would learn by now that they're irrational fears are unfounded. They said the same thing for years about why they wouldn't allow weapon dying... 'they were afraid everyone would be running around with pink weapons'- seriously, that was their argument. But when they finally caved and allowed it, guess what, NO PINK WEAPONS!! If FFXIV can offer this and not have 'a bunch of naked people running around' then why can't ESO?!? They really need to get over these 'fears' and realize that many of them are completely unfounded.

Tbh We already have "naked" chest & legs styles that are very skimpy clothing. Often even more skimpy than the default character underwear. I think that shoulders should definitely be hideable, either entirely, or we should have some kind of "bracelet" style for shoulders on character arms / upper hand. Same for belts. Very often belt is simply "floating" in the air, not attached to anything.

    D. You have costumes like Nocturnal's frock, Timbercrow wanderer and the Argonian bikinis, not to mention the Nord bathing towel. If the fear is a bunch of half-naked people, it's too late for that. And of late, they have been quite generous with short skirts and battle bras, a trend I imagine will keep with the sea theme of this year.

Shoulders def need the option. What's the point of that Prisoner style when we can't hide the Shoulders? I had to give a new char I made using that style a Nord looking fur coat looking scarf to get around that, sort of works..........

This topic has been addressed many times with no action taken. Here in my Jan. 2018 post of an ESO Live edition when the outfit system was first being implemented I saw some promising headway to get this live, but sadly nothing ever came of it. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/390969/hide-outfit-slots-eso-live-1-19#latest

There's also a few NPCs in nothing but their underwear (not always by choice admittedly) and an achievement for taking all your armour off before doing the Snow Bear Plunge during New Life. Oh and one for having stolen armour removed from every slot by a guard.

(Incidentally I know of a few people who put a costume on before doing that because they didn't want their character to be naked even when the game encouraged it.)

But even so I can't imagine that concern applies to shoulder armour which is the bit players most often ask to hide. More often than not they cover very little of the character's body, because the majority of the design is sticking out to the sides and the whole thing is floating above their shoulders.

In WOW you can hide all armor parts with the exception the pants, in SWTOR there is a covert armor set that let's you hide seperate armor parts.

SWTOR has armor specifically for this purpose. It does Not hide another piece of armor. It Is armor in and of itself. It is simply invisible. So, there isn't any bizarre " heavy metal chest piece that no one can see ". In this game, in order to apply this to Sets, it would need to be a Motif.

Oh yeah this would be an amazing alternative as well! Like I said in an earlier post in this thread, the reason why Hide Shoulders (or other pieces) isn't live yet is probably because of some unresolved issue. So maybe creating an invisible motif would be a great workaround.

Please Zenimax.. :( You would make my year by introducing either of these features to the game.

There are some sets that the shoulders clip even with their matching shoulders, or it's hard to find a belt that doesn't look stupid, or I just want bare hands. When it comes to being able to make your character look like you want I think usually more options are better.

For the love of Mara, please yes! Let's get this going already! Hide shoulders, tassets, crotch flaps, "Socks" and any bracers that are attached to chest armour (for some strange reason) at a bare minimum. I'd be most happy if we could hide everything or everything but pants. I can live with keeping my pants on. =D

It's not a game breaking deal for me if they don't implement something, I just find ways using whats available to me when crafting my own variations of sets to limit the gaps in armor.
