A few thoughts on event tickets and event consumables

I see a lot of people stressing out about the current event because it involves pvp. I'm not one of them- I enjoy pvp. Having said that....

Why sweat getting tickets and style pages?

With tickets the stuff we got last year- the skin, the personality, the mount and the house. I kinda like the mount but none of my characters are using it and i doubt they ever will. I made a big effort, was pretty obsessive about getting tickets and honestly it was a waste of my time. The skin, personality and house? I'll never use any of them.

The first series of collectibles that were acquired with tickets- all those Indrik mounts.... I got the base Indrik said to myself "getting more of these is pointless" and stopped caring. And I have no regrets. In 7 weeks I've seen ONE person riding an Indrik in 2022. So I doubt they're popular with many people at all.

The other big draw of these events is style pages. There's one I want this event- a chest piece. I'll get that and I'm done. Previous events.... I've used an Opal weapon or two, and got a lot of use out of Abnur Tharns pages and Caldwells shovel, but everything else? It was useless to me.

Anyways back to my point- if you don't like the content they're pushing you to play just don't participate, it isnt compulsory and theres probably better uses of your time..... with the notably exception of the Anniversary event.

If you have any interest in making gold do the anniversary event. And if you don't already have 8+ toons make more, do crafting certification and get them to level 6 so you can do writs. You'll thank me later. 😎

People have FOMO but at the same time also don't seem to care that they don't have to do all the events in order to get enough tickets for enough of the pets and the morphs by the end of the year.

And it's easier to complain about PvP events on the forums and demand there be a PvE version (when the existing PvP version doesn't even require you to do any PvP, literally the only thing to do with PvP it has is enter the relevant zones) than take any of the advice suggested in reams and reams of posts on the forums every time this event comes around.

No, it's not necessary. I'm not doing it for example, not because I don't like PvP but because I'm taking a breakfrom full time ESO at the moment. But these other people will still do the event, complaining the whole time that out of all the events every year, a few dare to require them to go to the PvP zones.

I think it is the urge of collecting everything. I am not using every collectable that i acquired through events, but i want to collect them and i think most people thinks the same.

I reckon I'll get any missing ones in the Anniversary event.
So they raised the floor and lowered the ceiling. Except the ceiling has spikes in it now and the floor is also lava.

Is it really that hard to imagine that different people have different tastes and like things you don't, including these collectibles?

I realise you're trying to be helpful but this entire post comes down to "I don't like these things and don't want them, so you shouldn't either". I think it's pretty unlikely the people who are going out of their way to get event tickets haven't thought about that and haven't realised they're chasing a reward they don't want. It's more likely they do like it and and are just getting frustrated with the process of getting it.

Quite honestly, when I look back, all I've gotten out of events are some mounts I never ride, some skins I never wear and a house I never go to. Usually with an unhealthy dose of burnout, because the events tend to drive you to log on when you don't want to and do things you don't really enjoy. Nowadays, yeah, I just don't bother.

Limited access space in ESO makes it hard to use multiple objects. WoW for example has options where you can mount up on a large selection of your favorites randomly with a single button; ESO has you select one mount and only one, if you want to switch then you have to go into your collectibles and select a different one. WoW has multiple action bars or macros that allow me to summon/dismiss a wide variety of non-combat pets; ESO again only lets you choose one to be always out or not at all. This restriction or limitation in ESO makes it a difficult choice of what you want all the time without having to go back into the collections menu to select another which is very cumbersome.

I'm confused when people say they never see anyone riding indriks. I see multiples of them every time I log in. After the purple one released, there was a train of about 20 of them in the Clockwork City zone. They seem to still be VERY popular.

Yes, but there are addons for everything... This one https://www.esoui.com/downloads/info1866-FCOMounty.html changes your mount whenever you change your location. I like riding my bear in Wrothgar, my camel in the Alik'r and so on :)

I've never understood the argument of "I don't care about [insert thing here] so why does anyone else care?". People seem to forget that everyone has their own likes and dislikes, and telling someone not to care about any given thing just because you don't seems kind of self-important.

Most people get frustrated over Mayhem not because it's inherently PvP or because they die, it's being forced into PvP and then dealing with people treating them like garbage. From people openly bragging about how they're going to gank people just trying to turn in town quests to people actively crapping on PvEers just for being in Cyrodill, it's the mindset that people are upset over and want to avoid, not necessarily the PvP itself. Yes, there ARE people who get frustrated over dying itself or just dislike PvP even when everyone is being cool, but for the most part people are just tired of dealing with other peoples' crappy attitudes towards PvEers during Mayhem.

And yes, there are enough events during the year that you can reasonably skip or miss a few and still get all the tickets to get everything, but you never know if someone might already know they're going to miss or skip other events for whatever reason, and Mayhem may be the lesser of two evils when it comes to deciding where to get tickets from.

So to answer your question, people "sweat" getting tickets because they typically want whatever it is they're collecting tickets for. Some people might never use whatever they're working towards and simply want it because they like collecting stuff.

I am a completionist and need everything mainly for that reason :#
Also, just because I have, or can think of, no use for an item right now, does not mean I won't have it later :)

Lots of people want tickets and get grouchy whenever they don't like jumping through whatever hoops ZOS has decided they have to jump through.

This time it's PVP. (Insert whatever aspect of PVP gameplay or PVPers that you most dislike here.)

Nevermind that it's a good thing ESO clearly doesn't revolve around MY preferences, or you'd never see another TG Heist/DB Sacrament event again!

Well for me personally, I am in two housing guilds, so yes I used the houses. I have 40 (roughly) houses at this point and I use all of them. Beyond the house contests, they are useful to move around Tamriel.

And one of those house guilds also has monthly costume contest, so yes I use the style pages as well.

Lastly, someone already mentioned the random mount addon, which I also use. And even if I didn’t use the addon, I have multiple “looks” for my characters and I like pairing up a mount for how they are dressed.

I get that the OP does not care about these things, but I do. I personally think the dungeon dlcs are a bit pointless (how many different dungeons do we need? Particularly when people seem to dislike the dlc ones) but I know there are some people who enjoy that content so I don’t make a post about it.

I got all the indriks, but I did that because I like them and I still use them. The nearest I've come to regretting it is that I regret buying the ghost elk mount in the crown store, if I'd known there would be an indrik version available free in-game I wouldn't have bothered.

Last year I got the mount, personality and house but skipped the skin because I didn't like it (I almost never use skins anyway). Again I use the mount and personality and I'm planning to use the house but haven't gotten around to it yet.

This year I'm skipping the skin because again I don't like it. If the mount is the yellow quasigriff that's been datamined I'll probably skip that too...or I might get it just because I end up getting the event tickets anyway. I'll decide on the other stuff once I know what it is.

I use Random Mount which does a similar thing but the mounts and pets are randomly selected rather than being tied to specific maps.

I also have IsJusta Favorite Collectibles which lets you create a favourites list for mounts, pets and other types of collectables so it's easier to find the ones I like in the menu when I do want to choose a specific one.

I was an avid Indrik collector and I still use mine, usually the mossy one because it goes with my wood elf aesthetic. I see others around too. I missed out on a couple because back then I didn't do Mayhem, but now I understand PVP better and like it.

Last year I passed on the personality and the house. This year I'm skipping the skin. Will probably go for the new quasigriff if that turns out to be real. I'll also want to keep the pet when it's all over. (I accidentally ended up with a morpholith at the end of the last one, but I'd never use it as a pet.)

I'm not really sweating over tickets but I do hate to waste an opportunity to get them. I've been buying the past event boxes to keep it under 12, and I'll probably buy the markings as they are not dropping for me. (Wish we could preview them.)

I don't use pets or house other than to put my storage down. I have a lot of mounts that comes with game but have never bought one. The Indrik I got at beginning rides like a pregnant camel so I never use it nor have I participated in getting anything else. I am grateful to have the pvp repair kits so I still like events. I wish there were more things to get other than the decorative fluff.

I like spending my Tel Var stones on wax bags and wish these were available for other rewards.

I've never used a single style page yet, since I haven't gotten into the outfit system yet, but I'd like to collect all of them if I can, as long as they're free (that is, not purchased with crowns), partly for completionism, but also because I expect that one day I'll start using the outfit system.

I like to use mounts and non-combat pets that came from whatever provinces my characters are from, so I use indrik mounts on two of my characters-- Altmers, obviously-- and use the matching indrik pet on one of them (the other one uses the Alinor ringtail). I frequently see other players riding around on indriks, although maybe not quite as many these days as before the Dagonic quasigriff. I suspect that this might be due to newer players not having access to indrik mounts, other than the one that was in the Crown Store recently.

As for the free house, I have used it quite a bit as a free wayshrine to Malabal Tor. That's my primary use for all of my houses-- free wayshrines to whatever zones they're in-- and I'm always happy to collect another one.
I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!

I think this thread is a fair reminder against FOMO. Of course if one actually wants the collectibles, that's fair enough as well.

I do want to add that for me a lot of the fun involved in events is the feeling of community that you get, rather than the collectibles themselves. In the Daedric event, I loved it that at any time you had a bunch of people at WBs that are normally deserted, and Tamriel always seems busy and vibrant during events. I think with the Mayhem events, PVE'ers struggle to feel the same sense of community, as PVP is an essentially adversarial rather than coorperative activity, probably exacerbated by the fact that most PVE'ers don't have a PVP group to play with.

Having said that I do support PVP events, of course; PVP is part of ESO, and it's also not a bad thing to nudge people to try something they normally might not.

    This is a great point.

One of the things I most remember from my first Midyear Mayhem was how I wound up leading a pickup group early in the morning. We were all wandering around and I got crown by virtue of being the one to say, "Well, we could go take that resource next."

Halfway around the Emp ring, the PVEers in the raid started to get the hang of it. One of them said, "PVP is fun when you have an army!"

    That's stuck with me.

On one's own, it's hard for a new PVPer to feel like they have much impact or even to know what to do or where to fight. In a group of allies, it takes the pressure off. You win more, and when you lose, at least you don't lose alone.

So yeah, having even an LFG group makes things a lot more fun in Cyrodiil.
