Couldn't care less about addition of a trading card game, what's the appeal of High Isle?

Besides the content of High Isle itself, which itself is troublesome due to lack of difficulty scaling meaning it'll just be a 15-20 hour quest chain that veteran players steamroll through, what's the appeal of this year's chapter? No spellcrafting, no 1H+Rune, no spears, no PvP reworks, no veteran overland difficulty scaling, heists and dark brotherhood sacrament systems completely abandoned, crime system is still underdeveloped, why is a trading card game of all things being added?

Also can't help but be cynical and imagine all the ways that the TCG will be monetized.

Difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 10 years. 7 paid expansions. 22 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including A Realm Reborn-tier overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver&Gold as a "you think you do but you don't"-tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the vast majority of this game.

Well, except for the PvP thing, no one actually expected any of those.
why is a trading card game of all things being added?

There's been a somewhat constant stream of "hey, they should add Legends to this game" or "we need in-game tavern games" threads over the years. So clearly someone has an interest. Not sure it's enough to be the "new mechanic" feature of a chapter, though.

Otherwise, I think the appeal of the new chapter is the same as the previous ones - more content.

You know... if I have to imagine to have epic fights while solving quests... despite quests being more or less fun and graphics and audio really really well done, the gameplay is just not there for me.

And I reached the point I'm done investing in this game. I adore the visuals, quests, audio, voice actors... I just don't have fun with the game anymore. It's made for the grind for the sake of the grind. It's very easy to play, you can tap 1-5 and just go through the game. Challenge is zero.

I might come around in time, but my first reaction is that this might be the first Chapter I pass on buying. :/

Seriously, where's the gameplay? You know, something to help make my characters feel fresh.

Lots of people have asked for card games, so even though it doesn't appeal to me, I can see why ZOS invested development time in it.

As for me, I'll buy the Chapter for the story, same as I usually do. The only one I didn't buy was Greymoor because I had zero interest in a bad rehash of Dawnguard. But lots of people loved it, which goes to show the problem with saying "It's got no interest for me" like it's true of the broader population.

It's up to you if you want to spend money on High Isle or not.

Same as last year, then. And the year before.

At least I like CCGs more than antiquities and companions, but they are equally useless.

Zero interest in an in-game card game. My only worry is that certain "useful" things will be gated by the card game.

If the only real attraction is the story then I can wait and this is highly likely to be an update that I will wait until it is on sale.

The card game is something I could see as a gimmick at best, but I am also very disappointed that there's no meaty gameplay being added, whether a new class, or a skill line or another system that actually involves playing the GAME, not sitting in a menu flipping cards.

They should have invested in bringing Elder Scroll Legends into ESO which could easily have been the highest quality card game in the market. Instead they have left the ESL players to literally rot in a game abandoned 2 years ago and are now writing a new card game?!!! Absolute madness, They could have launched ESL within a window in ESO, linked the 2 games for rewards as a starter for 10.

Yea, this game offers me less and less each year personally.

I know some may love it, but I hate companions, so that was wasted on me. I'm meh on antiquities - I like the furnishings, but hate the grind for mythics. And I don't care for card games.

I'm not thrilled with the card game either, everyone expects something new and different with each chapter, this year its a card game. Regardless, I'll be purchasing the chapter because of the story and all the new quest, its why I play ESO, I love the lore and stories that come with it.

Yea, I'm afraid Zos might ruin whatever there is left of Breton lore. Wasn't a big fan of the last 2/3 main quests from the chapters.

Just to be very clear, i personally LOVE card games. Whether its in my mmo of choice or a stand alone game doesnt matter. I loved ESL, I love MTG, hell I even loved the card game in xenosaga.

If done well, actually deep with long term replay value and not slimey in how it is monetized, these types of games are excellent additions to any online game that houses a social community of players, to be sure. Especially so if the game incentivizes players participating in particular avenues of content they otherwise wouldnt.

However, as a stand out singular feature to an update of ESO, its just not really enough to be honest. This should be a secondary feature to come alongside something more meaningful to the game being added. The new zone and story line is par for the course at this point but many people were hoping for something that carried a little bit more weight to shake up the status quo of ESOs content release cadence.

Considering it was mentioned that this was a huge system to add, it really seems like it would have been better to add this as a companion game and not as an in-game system to take up the limited resources.

Did anyone actually WANT to play a card game in ESO?

I would have much rather received a new class, playable race, weapon type, etc than a card game with card packs that will likely be way overpriced in the crown store.

I am happy that we get Breton lore and content. Some previous features I have enjoyed more than others (love antiquities, dislike companions etc). The new card game doesn't seem that interesting, but I thought the same about antiquities so who knows.

I guess usually I don't expect anything that grand, so I'm just happy about a new chapter in general. I play ESO to relax, and new quests, more exploring and more housing/fashion will be enough for that. Plus the theme being Breton is a huge plus cause I have played only Bretons since the times of the "original" Morrowind.

There have been "why haven't they added Legends to ESO" "give us a card game" and "we need tavern games" forum threads at a reasonably steady pace over the years. So, yes. Now, whether those people would want it as the "big feature" of a chapter is a different question. /shrug

As a free base game enhancement or an ESO+ perk I could see it, but it's not something that makes me want to open my wallet and spend new money.

Honestly, the "new feature" of chapters is rarely the reason that I get them. More regions to explore, more stories, more motifs, more content in general. And sure, new features is part of that new content. But I've never looked at a chapter (or DLC) and thought "Oh, this adds ________! This is why I want it!" /shrug

That's a fair point, but the game has been getting really stale for me in terms of gameplay and it's getting to the point where no matter how good the story is it's becoming off-putting playing the same old classes with the same old skills in the same old rotations. I was hoping for something to shake that up.

If the card game had dropped in the 4th quarter of the Legacy of Bretons I dont think it would have received this much hate. But selling it as the key feature of the chapter is laughable. Its understandable that they are trying to reel in a little so they aren't overextended going into another year of working from home. But this was just down right always going to miss the spot.
