Housing - First impressions

Since beta (or whenever housing dropped) I’ve never really gotten the allure of housing… the achievements are fairly bland and the actual benefit is pretty limited (individually not for guild crafting writs etc). It wasn’t until the armoury station that I thought it’s something I may what to consider. So using pilgrims rest I went deep into Leyawiin furniture crafting and found a decent setup with a 60 slot chest and armoury station; mages guild kitten pottering around and Mirri in the corner… that was both aesthetically pleasing and functional. Though it has to be said… even for such a tiny place it’s easy to hit 30 furnishing limit (ESO+) and still want a BIT more … like 45!? I’m slightly hooked on housing now but feel Skyrims hearth fire DLC did a better job in terms of actual reasons to come back to your home - buffs - planting - armour mannequins etc. Its a fun little distraction but with a bit more TLC could be awesome. I like tiny rooms / apartments and focusing on details those ‘tiny’ furnishings … the alpine “free” house is awesome but very daunting to me.

agree frend. housing is fun but could use more fun stuff inside and more slots. its easy to run out of slots fast if we try to make the house look good like houses in game with all the stuff in them. little bits really add up like apples in bowls in the kitchen and pillows and things

Some houses offer better furnishing limit to usable space ratios than others. My first large house was Stay-Moist Mansion which had a 600 furnishing limit. It had enough space for me to fully deck out the courtyard with stables, a garden, crafting area, combat area, and add a 360-degree balcony to the top floor, while being able to partition the interior with a cozy seating area in the front with a dueling space in the back.

A few years later I got Lakemire Xanmeer Manor, which gave 100 more slots than Stay-Moist Mansion but had considerably more area to cover. A few months ago I had to block off the upper level and basement so that I could make the rest of the space look lived in.

Then the Varlaisvea Ayleid Ruins became available and I took a gander. If I had to guess I'd say it is the largest house in the game by far, dwarfing pretty much everything in terms of usable building space. It, too, has a furnishing limit of 700.

I've wanted armor mannequins and weapon racks since forever. Maybe someday.

the current furnishing slot limits are abysmal.
an increase is direly needed.

I've noticed on the armory stand that the clothing mannequin sticks out more than the rest and has a target on it, it would make a great target dummy if sunk into a wall. I haven't tried it yet and maybe it won't work but I noticed it yesterday.

Apartments have a much more reasonable 50 item limit- 100 with plus. The apartment in Mournhold is a lot of fun to decorate- you can easily add a second floor and make it a split level loft apartment. Even if you're not into housing it's well worth getting for the free travel back to one of the most useful hubs in the game.

Sadly all the dlcs just add Inn rooms with the lame 15/30 limit.

We've been asking for armor and weapons we can display since the day housing hit the pts 5 years ago. I've never seen a dev reply to any of the requests.

I really don't know why they just don't give ALL the houses the max current limit of 350 without ESO+ and 700 with. This would let us go crazy with the small houses with adding lots of small things like food and such as others have mentioned here. Really make them look realistic.

People would still buy the bigger houses, I know I would. People buy them for the houses not for the slot size. Heck I have 58 houses right now and plan on getting all that I can.

I'd love more to do in the houses too. The beds look like they're crying out to be slept on. We should be able to have our own custom-dressed companions in it, idling randomly like actual people. One thing I do like in ESO houses are the music boxes; that's something Skyrim didn't have. I like the day/night cycles and interactive lights too.

Hi Op,

Housing has a more custom approach in ESO as you can use any styles of your choice and assemble them in the fashion you desire. That said, I agree. Hearthfire did have 'functionalities' that we haven't had a glimpse of here yet.

For the time being the functionalities of a ESO house are:
- The Aetherial Well (ultimate/resource replenishment in a click)
- Transmutation Station (re-craft/re-trait bound/known items)
- Dummies (for practising DPS)
- Various crafting stations that exist since vanilla + jewellery crafting (Summerset) + Armoury update (latest patch to date)
- Banker NPCS, Merchant NPCS, Smuggler NPCS and house guest NPCS.
- Coffers (available through different means/sources)

So from what we can see, ESO housing functionalities are mostly directed to supporting a raiding/gear managing player.
You can see the implementation of 'clothier mannequins' in places like Abah and some other more recent areas in shops. There are weapon racks in overland towns and cities too... I'm sure they will pushing forward these additions that we already know and enjoy, but when?...
